i will use the HC stall if there is one, but if a HC person came in, i'd certainly let them use it before me

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

I only use it if I have my children with me. it frustrates me to no end though when non-handicapped people use it and there are empty stalls and that is where the changing table it.
A little story:
A few months ago, DS and I entered a bathroom with someone and I held the door open so she could go in before me (I am trying to teach him manners!). The entire bathroom was empty except us. I see her heading to the handicap stall, so before she went in, I asked if that was where the changing table was. She replied yes then proceeded to close the door! When DS asked why we couldn't use another stall, I explained (LOUDLY Chat Icon ) that we needed the one with the changing table and we had to wait our turn. She didn't even acknowledge me when she got out Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

I almost always go straight to the handicapped one b/c it's bigger and roomier and usually cleaner.

I have issues with public bathrooms as it is........and most of them you have to squeeze in to close the door and that skeeves me b/c sometimes the door or front of toilet has to accidentally hit my pant leg. Once that happens, it's all over for me! Chat Icon Chat Icon

So I dont use the regular stalls unless I have no other choice, which thankfully isn't too often! Chat Icon

Chat Icon I always have used it when I have my kid with me....but thanks to this post and seeing how much action that stall gets..we will probably be squeezing into a regular one.

If there is no line, I'll use it. If there is a line and I'm next and I see a handicap person or maybe a mom with a stroller, I'll tell them to go ahead of me.

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

I am afraid to answer after the other thread Chat Icon

If it is the only stall open and there is no one HC on line I use it.

Obviously if someone who needed it HC or parent with child was on line I would tell them to go ahead of me and use it.

I would like to point out that I have never seen anyone on line in front of me NOT use it bc it was HC.

I will use it if it is open and no one waiting needs to use it. Plus a lot of times I have the baby with me and the changing table thing is in there.

Fel and Jon I think she meant the person who went in there was rude Chat Icon

No no, not you, that lady who said the changing table was in there and proceeded to use it before you.
And the fact she didn't apologize when she got out, and ignored you...Just saying I would never do something like that.

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

I will use it if it's empty.

Completely unrelated to the fact that I use the stall - I think it's a bit different than the parking lot issue. Those particular spots in the lot are "reserved," however, a handicap accessible stall is not a reserved spot. The term accessible to me makes a difference because it has accommodations for a handicap but that doesn't make it reserved, they would still have to wait their turn.

So yes, I do use the stall BUT if it was a crowded store or if there was anyone there who was in obvious need of that particular stall (handicapped, woman with children, etc.), I would absolutely step aside and wait for a regular stall.

Don't flame me....i'm just giving my interpretation!!!! Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

I don't think it's like handicap parking, where it's reserved only for handicapped people. I think it's just a bathroom that is accessable. Kind of like the ramp outside the store. It's not handicapped ONLY, it's just hanidcapped accessible. You're not hurting anyone by using it unless you knock over someone in a wheelchair to beat her to the door.

Re: Spinoff to the parking spot question...

If there isn't someone else in the bathroom who needs it, then yeah, I will. Especially because I usually have 2 small kids with me so I really do need the extra space.

To me, the difference is if there isn't already someone in the room waiting, you're not going to take that long in the stall anyway, so if someone were to come in who needs it, they're probably only waiting a minute or so. With parking spots, you are taking that spot away for longer than a minute.

I will use the HC stall if no one else is in the bathroom or on line that visibly looks like they need it. Plus I would expect them to just go to that stall and cut the line if they needed it.

I will use the the HC stall when I have DS with me in his stroller because I need to roll him in there with me. He wouldn't fit in a normal stall.

Same here!!
