For those of you opposed to the vaccine but also opposed to any restrictions, what is your solution? You can't just tell the elderly and immunocompromised people to stay home forever so you can live your life. The healthcare workers can't handle another wave. With no vaccine and no restrictions, hospitals will collapse. I just don't understand how people still don't get this.
Yes anyone can choose what they want to do in life. Many elderly have no problem living life now as well as immune compromised people. It is an individual decision and some people are more scared than others as with everything in life. Hospitals know now how to handle this virus now better so the hospitals won’t get overwhelmed.
It was just last month that California's hospitals were overwhelmed.

Re: Texas is open!
but where is personal responsibility in all of this?
Texas says they are reopening and there is no mask mandate. Great for those people who feel safe and ready to re-enter the world.
If you are unsure or nervous or still uncertain, no one is saying you can't wear a mask or must go sit in a crowded theater. DH and I took a road trip down to FL in November. We stopped for meals and bathroom breaks. In some states there were no mask mandates and we still wore our masks into rest stops and restaurants. Did people look at us funny? Yup - but who cares? It's called taking responsibility for yourself. The government doesn't need to be a nursemaid.
If the science works (and I believe it does) then as more and more people get vaccinated, the threat goes down.

Exactly we have sacrificed so much, more than other states, and we are in no better shape. There is no end to this. They dangle a carrot in front of and are constantly changing when things will be “normal”. So I’m done. I’m living my life. I have a small chance of getting very sick from this, not going to die from it. Those are the ones who should be “quarantining” at this point. We know how to treat it. Elderly are getting vaccinated. LIVE LIFE ALREADY. stay home if you are scared.
There is an end, it's the vaccine.
We're almost to the point of normalcy, it's stupid to throw in the towel at this point.
So at what point do you think they can tell us, in other states, we can fully open, no masks?
This is not complicated to figure out, when enough people are vaccinated and we see minimal new cases and deaths it's safe to say the vaccine is working and we can start easing up and lifting restrictions. But now isn't that time, it's too soon.
I think people should choose that on their own and not be told when they can live life. If you (in general) not comfortable with the numbers, then continue doing what makes you feel safer. It’s been a year. Many of us have done as much as we have been permitted to and want and need more.

Texas is open!
Want and need more what? A lot is open, even in NY. You can do mostly anything that you want, as long as you wear a mask while doing it. You can even go to a Rangers game if you want. In NYC at least, Broadway is the only thing I can think of that is still completely shut down.

What exactly in NY can't you still do? I'm in NJ and can freely go to stores, go shopping, etc. I still visit family in NY frequently and we enjoy going out. I have flown to see family. Besides allowing venues to open up 100%, what exactly is it that you think will stop these people from being depressed, committing suicide, etc?

Things are limited and closed early. I can’t go and watch any band at anytime they are playing. I can’t go get a mani or pedi with a friend as we can’t sit next to each other. I can’t have a party more than a certain amount and even dance with others. Many kids still can’t go full time.
Yes many things are getting better but it is still not the same.

So, on the Dr. Seuss thread you called me out for saying I doubted anyone would miss the pulled books because they were not popular titles, but you are sitting here complaining you can't get a mani/pedi or go to a concert?!? Complain about finances, small businesses suffering, children and school. But do you hear yourself speak? Your right to a manicure doesn't trump someone else's right to live.

Kids can not go to school full time. You still can’t go to a restaurant past 11pm. While it might not cross your mind many like to go dancing, going to see bands playing without sitting in your seats.
Kids are being limited to spending time with friends and family and that is not helping their mental health.
Shopping is not the end all be all for many.

Nope. Post your sources or they don't exist. I post sources to back up what I say, but you never do. I Googled hospital rates, and the chart that I found shows that hospitals are overwhelmed.

I agree. Just reading that response made me roll my eyes. I can complain about the fact that I haven’t been allowed to go to a restaurant in 4 months, but I suck it up because I don’t want to hurt other people. Call me crazy but I care more about giving people the ability to have their health. If people are killing themselves because they can’t get a manicure, I think there might be other things at play.
As for the OP, Texas is dumb to open everything up like nothing is happening. And no masks, too, wtf?
They are warning of the third wave coming on quicker than expected here. So good luck, Texas.

Since this is LiFAMILIES let’s talk about things my family can’t do. We can’t leave the surrounding states without jumping thru hoops and potentially losing jobs for additional time off. My kids can’t play in band. Virtual Nyssma? So stupid. I can’t have a family celebration for milestones with dancing unless we are in our dance zones. My children have short sport seasons that I’m watching on my phone while in the parking lot. Playgrounds are closed in places. My daughter can’t even have an in person Girl Scout meeting. Want me to continue??

Your comments continually show a lack of understanding regarding pandemics and highly contagious viruses. It's not about what makes YOU feel comfortable, it's about BASIC science.
You keep saying you want normal life but at the same time you refuse science, the vaccine and social restrictions. You don't make any sense, you can't have your cake and eat it too. We're ALL miserable and want more but the FACT is, we aren't there yet. If you want to get there faster, go take your vaccine. Seriously.

My daughter and my DH can't go to their last father/daughter dance My daughter misses out on the 5th grade trip that they all look forward to all elementary school Middle school and up can't go to school every day, if at all (though that is slowly coming back in my district starting this week, thank God) We can't go to the church for our relatives communions- immediate family only My daughter likely won't have a 5th grade graduation unless it's some bullshitt drive up crap Based on threads on the other board we clearly can't have indoor birthday parties or baby showers either- that seemed to be horrifying to many people even those who are vaccinated already.
