For those of you opposed to the vaccine but also opposed to any restrictions, what is your solution? You can't just tell the elderly and immunocompromised people to stay home forever so you can live your life. The healthcare workers can't handle another wave. With no vaccine and no restrictions, hospitals will collapse. I just don't understand how people still don't get this.
Yes anyone can choose what they want to do in life. Many elderly have no problem living life now as well as immune compromised people. It is an individual decision and some people are more scared than others as with everything in life. Hospitals know now how to handle this virus now better so the hospitals won’t get overwhelmed.
Nothing improves if everyone wants to do their own thing and not consider others.
We will never know if we don’t try as these other states are doing. Considering others more than yourself is causing suicides, depression, mental health deteriorating. Not saying not be considerate but this should be a choice how to live.
What exactly in NY can't you still do? I'm in NJ and can freely go to stores, go shopping, etc. I still visit family in NY frequently and we enjoy going out. I have flown to see family. Besides allowing venues to open up 100%, what exactly is it that you think will stop these people from being depressed, committing suicide, etc?
Since this is LiFAMILIES let’s talk about things my family can’t do. We can’t leave the surrounding states without jumping thru hoops and potentially losing jobs for additional time off. My kids can’t play in band. Virtual Nyssma? So stupid. I can’t have a family celebration for milestones with dancing unless we are in our dance zones. My children have short sport seasons that I’m watching on my phone while in the parking lot. Playgrounds are closed in places. My daughter can’t even have an in person Girl Scout meeting. Want me to continue??
My daughter and my DH can't go to their last father/daughter dance My daughter misses out on the 5th grade trip that they all look forward to all elementary school Middle school and up can't go to school every day, if at all (though that is slowly coming back in my district starting this week, thank God) We can't go to the church for our relatives communions- immediate family only My daughter likely won't have a 5th grade graduation unless it's some bullshitt drive up crap Based on threads on the other board we clearly can't have indoor birthday parties or baby showers either- that seemed to be horrifying to many people even those who are vaccinated already.
The situation is MISERABLE, there is no argument about that. But we did all of this to get to the vaccine. Now that it's here, once most people are vaccinated this nightmare ends. That's a fact. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, we're almost there.

Exactly we have sacrificed so much, more than other states, and we are in no better shape. There is no end to this. They dangle a carrot in front of and are constantly changing when things will be “normal”. So I’m done. I’m living my life. I have a small chance of getting very sick from this, not going to die from it. Those are the ones who should be “quarantining” at this point. We know how to treat it. Elderly are getting vaccinated. LIVE LIFE ALREADY. stay home if you are scared.
There is an end, it's the vaccine.
We're almost to the point of normalcy, it's stupid to throw in the towel at this point.
So at what point do you think they can tell us, in other states, we can fully open, no masks?
This is not complicated to figure out, when enough people are vaccinated and we see minimal new cases and deaths it's safe to say the vaccine is working and we can start easing up and lifting restrictions. But now isn't that time, it's too soon.
I think people should choose that on their own and not be told when they can live life. If you (in general) not comfortable with the numbers, then continue doing what makes you feel safer. It’s been a year. Many of us have done as much as we have been permitted to and want and need more.
Your comments continually show a lack of understanding regarding pandemics and highly contagious viruses. It's not about what makes YOU feel comfortable, it's about BASIC science.
You keep saying you want normal life but at the same time you refuse science, the vaccine and social restrictions. You don't make any sense, you can't have your cake and eat it too. We're ALL miserable and want more but the FACT is, we aren't there yet. If you want to get there faster, go take your vaccine. Seriously.
Sorry but I will stay the 1 out of 4 people who have no intention of getting a vaccine, at least not for awhile, and if even needed.

But we are the selfish ones since we want to live our lives. I’d love for my daughter to attend a Girl Scout meeting, I don’t care if they are in masks. But nope, not allowed (well they can meet in a public space but there are none who want that liability....can’t go in a backyard and distance STUPID). I feel that those who want to live in fear are the selfish ones at this point in time.

Also, I said hospitals are overwhelmed. As of 3 days ago. Somehow, according to you, there are ZERO hospitals that are overwhelmed across the country? Wow, that's pretty amazing. Or, do you agree with me that hospitals ARE overwhelmed, and you're just nitpicking over the exact number.

To be fair, the GSA has overly strict rules, well beyond the state rules. DD is in GS, and their rules are extremely overboard. Boy Scouts have been able to meet in person almost the entire pandemic (since around June or so). With tons of rules and guidelines of course, but we're still meeting in person, in backyards, parks, and public meeting areas indoors. Definitely not the way we want, which really sucks, but no where near the restrictions that the GSs have.

Nope, not selfish taking something that has no background studies on people for an extended period of time. It had nothing to do with science having it before this. It hasn’t been used on humans and I am not comfortable yet. I have a choice and I am not harming anyone. Just like I have a choice with the flu shot or many other medical decisions.
If whiny is wanting my children to be back in school and people getting their jobs back. As well as people being able to see and do things with their family and friends, even if yes, god forbid they want to get a mani together or dance with a bride and groom to share things with them, then, yes, I guess I am being whiny.

NOW, they ARE overwhelmed. So, according to your words, if hospitals know how to handle the virus and won't get overwhelmed, it means they aren't overwhelmed.

I have to disagree. I’m a healthy young adult. Don’t need a vaccine to move on with life. That’s another discussion.
And it’s not individual wants. It’s living life. Those were examples. Want more important examples....someone being able to bring another individual with them to get their cancer diagnosis or having someone close by IN the building during treatments. Being able to be in a room with a spouse during a sonogram and getting devastating news. These are important. Open up NY

NOW, they ARE overwhelmed. So, according to your words, if hospitals know how to handle the virus and won't get overwhelmed, it means they aren't overwhelmed.
Did I say zero hospitals were overwhelmed?

Amen. Let people go on and if we have to wear a mask, then do so. There is no reason we can’t throw a mask on and do many things.
And many people are doing many things. You just can't do everything you might want to do right now.
Again, please go take your vaccine and then feel free to get back to all the things you want to do. If you refuse the vaccine then you really should just stop complaining because it reads as selfish, irresponsible and whiny. The pandemic is bigger than your individual wants.
Open up NY
I understand but it's not that simple. If it was, we'd all be back to normal living. Get your vaccine when available and we can all move on, that's the ONLY way this ends.
ETA I know MANY "young healthy adults" who had COVID and are still suffering with secondary health issues now. You're not immune, nobody is.

People will get sick and having multiple lockdowns doesn’t seem to work there in Germany. This virus is not just going to disappear because you hide out at home.
Numbers are much lower here than there.

The situation is MISERABLE, there is no argument about that. But we did all of this to get to the vaccine. Now that it's here, once most people are vaccinated this nightmare ends. That's a fact. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, we're almost there.
I "feel" that if we New Yorkers knew that the 30 days would have turned in to a year; there would have been more resistance. I don't think the lockdowns necessarily help in the long run. I think the social distancing and masks do but I don't think we need indoor dining to end at 11 (or 10 pm) previously. I don't think we need to not have concerts. I think we need more testing, social distancing measures and masks. It's ridiculous that the kids are not getting a prom this year. We know much more and don't need so much imposed.

I agree with everything you said. The GS rules are over the top!

Texas is open!
People think where we are today is bad? What are you going to do if the variants take off and we are put back into a lockdown situation similar to last year? That's my fear. And the more we open before vaccinations take hold, the more likely this is what will happen sometime in the next month or so.

The variants are going to take off...I think that is a forgone conclusion. And all the precautions already in place; haven't prevented that. I think the introduction of the JNJ vaccine is the game changer. If May is a realistic time line for every adult to have the opportunity - there may be enough immunity or resistance that we can go back to a "new" normal.

Sorry, but you are the media’s favorite viewer. The more you watch the more fear you are having. Turn off the TV, read less online and be safe but if you follow everything they say, we will be in double masks until 20 who knows when.

Says the one who gets ALL of her information from right wing conspiracy sites. Seriously, most of what you say is rooted in misinformation and falsehoods so I'm not sure why you're calling her out.
Go get your vaccine, contribute to the solution and not the problem.

I don't watch the news too often. I speak with my brother who works in a hospital and has been working overtime bc people are sick and crowding the hospitals. THat's why we are carful. I try to live my life, but with caution right now (I'm saying now, but not the rest of our lives). I'm not sitting in the house in fear, but we do go out with masks, wash hands, get together outside when it's not too frigid out. and didn't hug our parents till they were fully vaccinated. I don't think of this as forever, but for now. Yes, it's been a year, but I do feel we are getting better. This isn't going away, but hope we can get more control of it so people aren't dying and having other long term complications.

I am not in fear and both sides are putting fear into people. I watch News12 everyday and they have turned more left over the years so, yes, I listen to main stream media that is not right wing.
Thanks but again no one will talk me into getting a vaccine. I will even be cancelling my vacation this year if I am required to get one. 2 out of 4 people in my house are eligible to get it and all 4 of us do not want it.
