And the fact that he told ppl he didn't want kids and Now he's left with his son, is completely disgusting.
This makes me think it was a suicide- and she wanted to take her children, the children he didn't want, with her. That man knows more than he's letting on.
wow, when I think about it I agree with that...coupled with the fact that she pulled over and left her cell phone on the side of the road before she entered the parkway the wrong way is the only thing that makes sense

I've thought about this too. She didn't speak about her feelings or her marriage her best friend said. Who knows what kind of marriage they had? Who knows what kind of fight they had or what they were going through. I dont get her way of thinking if this is what she did but I definitely dont understand where she thought she had the right to take the other 3 girls that were not hers along with them????? Maybe she drank to make it easier..maybe thats why she seemed so determined to others on the road..we will never know..

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
Posted by Porrruss That scene at the very end where Daniel reached out to hold his son's hand and his son pulled away was very telling.
What an devastating tragedy. Those poor people.
I thought the same exact thing. From what his SIL was saying, god only knows what goes on in that house.

I dont believe it was suicide. Her stopping at the rest stops, going into the stores, clearly looking for something. I truly doubt that she would have killed herself, her children AND her neices. I just find that hard to believe, that she would take her 3 neices lives as well. That would make her a monster, which I dont believe she was at all.

I just don't get why she wouldn't pull over if she was sick??? I mean, she was stopped after the Tappan Zee...why did she pull away again if she was sick? It makes no sense!

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I remember reading online 2 years ago that Daniel had an affair with the SIL and now I totally believe it.
Here's my theory after watching that.
Diane's mother left because she was with the neighbor. This scarred her emotionally. Her friends said that she was nice but, VERY controlling, A HUGE perfectionist and if she hated you she was mean.
So she marries and makes it her goal to be supermom. She is perfect beyond comprehension. Her DH didn't want kids. She did. So she agreed to raise them. Maybe they didn't have a great marriage. She smoked pot and drank to self medicate, even if it was not excessive. The tooth thing is weird. She went to the dentist all the time, never got it fixed but, got pain meds??? That is so fishy. Sounds like she was addicted to pain killers on and off. Probably to cope with the emotional pain and the stress of having to be the perfect mom all by herself.
Then the SIL.... she states how amazing and wonderful Dianne is. Then she says, Oh she made me the Godmother and I was so thrilled because I thought that WOW maybe she does like me Sounds to me like Dianne didn't like her and wasn't nice to her. I think that the SIL was having an affair with Daniel.
Then, I think that Dianne found out about the affair or Daniel told her he was leaving while camping. She had the pot because they were camping and smoking for fun. She also had the vodka and had a nervous breakdown. For a control freak she was just dealt something she couldn't control and snapped. So maybe this behavior was sooo out of character to her because in reality that day she snapped and wasn't in her right mind. So she drank and smoke until she was out of her gourd and had the accident.
So now Daniel and the SIL are trying to cover the whole things up. For one, they will look bad for having the affair and also Daniel could be held liable for leaving Dianne in such an emotional state.
Did you notice how the SIL is all gung-ho with the investigation and Daniel is kind of backing off. He knows the truth. Also.. the whole PI thing was bogus. The PI found the results to match the autopsy and sent it to the lawyer. It matched and they threw it out and pretended they never got it. Did you notice how they just kept saying that they never called the PI to question why he ran off with the money... no mention of why they didn't persue this guy that supposedly took the money and ran?? Even the lawyer was like.. oh well.. we can't get the info from him. Then the PI finally called the SIL and was like.. I sent the results.. they matched..that's it.
That's my opinion. It's probably not true but, it's what I thought I saw tonight.

My guess is if she was a very determined person, she may not want to wait to be "helped". I am fine, I can get them home, sort of attitude.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I have never smoked pot in my life, never tried it.
What I would like to know is, could she have gotten some bad pot, that had something crazy in it and made her hallucinate? KWIM?

Well Maybe. But, I think it was more the 10 drinks and the high amounts of THC that did it. Combined they can make you loopy. She was just under.20 which they said most people pass out at. Then add pot (the autopsy said a lot of pot) That alone could make you hallucinate.

Very interesting theory. I didnt know they were accused of having an affair. So true....she could have been told something mind blowing on that trip and snapped.

I remember reading it on some forums. They just said brother's wife. I always assumed it was the girls mother.. but, now that I saw this I am thinking they meant Daniel's brother's wife.
I had read it on more than one local forum.

No offense taken at all.
But I'm going to say that NO ONE knows what kind of mental state a person has to be in to be suicidal. Having never been there I can only assume, once someone has made up their mind to truly end their life, they've truly hit the bottom and NOTHING will stop them- not even 5 kids.

I totally believe this. His brother/Jay's husband did not really participate in the documentary. Then I remembered photo's on Newsday of Daniel & Jay holding hands at the press conferences and such. Makes perfect sense now.

Me neither. I wish they would have put a warning before showing it. I don't think I would have watched. The entire story is just so disturbing on so many levels.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I posted this on the other board and now see a discussion here:
The part I will never understand is how the husband pulls away in his truck with the dog and just leaves his wife behind in the van with all those kids!
That part makes zero sense to me!
I know it is difficult with that many miles to attempt to follow each other, but no guy I was ever with or my father or brother, etc would have EVER left their female relative like that! We ALWAYS stay near each other on long trips if we are in seperate cars like that. I just cannot get how a man pulls away from a woman with all those kids in the van!
Which leads me to my initial gut reaction about this case.....the husband said something horrible to the wife and pulled away maybe?

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I also wondered if it was a suicide. Some of the witnesses said at first she was swerving and out of control. But then when she got on the wrong ramp to enter the parkway, the witnesses said she was pin straight and very determined, not to be swayed off course. That stuck with me. Maybe she started out on the trip just wanting to self medicate/escape/whatever after a fight or something but then as she was more and more under the influence decided to end her life. But I don't understand why she would take her nieces with her.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
Daniel Shuler also has filed some lawsuits which just bothers me. Here's a recap of all the lawsuits according to Pix 11:
Schuler filed a lawsuit Monday against the state saying the Taconic State Parkway is poorly designed and the lack of signs led his wife to enter the northbound parkway heading south. He's also suing his brother-in-law, the father of the 3 nieces that died because the van Diane was driving was his. the suits had to be filed before the 2-year anniversary.
Bastardi's sister, Roseann Guzzo, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit in late 2009 against the Schuler estate and Warren Hance.
Victim Daniel Longo's brother Joseph, also sued the Schuler estate, Warren Hance, and also Roseann Guzzo, saying that Guy Bastardi, who was driving, bore some responsibility for the crash.
