Another thing, I thought it was interesting that Daniel Schuler hired, of all the attorneys in NY, Dominic Barbera!

IMO, he is a awful attorney, but a wicked spin master...

Think Jose Baez in 20 years!Chat Icon

He is terrible...

If she was having a stroke, couldn't see, couldn't talk, etc. she would have pulled over and called 911. That is what anyone would do. You don't down a bottle of vodka and keep on driving with 5 kids in the car. The stroke, the abscess, everything else is just a bunch of hogwash if you ask me.

Who's to say what "anyone" would do if having a stroke. Online you can find that one of the possible symptoms of a stroke is impaired judgement. One of the examples I found was driving a car when you shouldn't.

I don't know, for me, finding some explanation in a possibility like that makes it easier to comprehend. Could it be hogwash, yes, could it be a possibility, yes. I would rather think that there was some horrible medical problem than to think she did it on purpose. Chat Icon

My MIL had a stroke, I doubt her first reaction was to get stoned and drunk. Ditto for my GA and GU who both had multiple strokes.

I'd rather believe what the facts point at than make up excuses to avoid accepting the fact they are some horrible folks out in the world.

Barbera probably took the case for free to enjoy the publicity.

Doubt many reputable lawyers would do the same.

ITA and as I stated earlier, if she is having a stroke while driving, why is her access to vodka and pot so easy when she has 5 kids in the car. It's all bs.

I'm so sad that we'll never know the truth.

I want to know what was said in those phone conversations. Why didn't they make the police aware that they were dealing with a possible drunk driver? They didn't stress the urgency.

People who knew Diane said she was a wonderful person. Just goes to show you that we never know what goes on behind closed doors.

I know that after this story no one will drive my children besides myself, my husband, and my parents. You just never know.

This tragedy could have been avoided. Those poor babies. Those poor innocent men.

I am right there with you Diana. It's so sad.

I actually think the reason they didn't make the police aware that they were dealing with a possible drunk driver is because they didn't think she was drunk. I think it supports the claims that people who knew her didn't know her to drink. I have to believe if they thought she was drunk they would have been screaming it with their children in the car. and no one that knows the sister knew her to smoke either until it was shown on TV last night. So people can and do hide things from their family.

I don't disagree that people can hide things from family. But I can still have my own opinion about this story, even if it's not the popular opinion.

ETA: I had to laugh though when she made that comment to the cameras. Just found it to be very ironic.

When she stopped at the gas station she *looked* sober enough...I don't know.

i don't think she looked sober at all... she sped into the station, jumped out of the car, walked into the store with her sunglasses on, looked around for a few seconds like she was lost, and turned around and walked right back out only to get in her car and speed away. that doesn't scream sober to me

The way she drove out of there, her sunglasses stayed on and how she walked in and out again are huge red flags for me. No she wasn't stumbling but there are plenty of times where I am not stumbling but shouldn't be driving a car. I wonder what she asked for? Hard to believe a convenience store didn't have tylenol or a pain killer if thats what people think she was asking for. Did the guy working there ever say?

I think she looked disoriented sober was not the right word. I think for the amount of alcohol she drank I was expecting her to be falling out of the car but maybe if she was a seasoned drinker or alcoholic she had a high tolerance.

I think she definetely had all of this stuff in her system though. And of course she should not have been driving at all! I wonder when she drank all of this...in the car? Before??

Is it me or did the SIL enjoy being on this documentary a little too much? And in press conferences she seemed to enjoy the spotlight.

OMG, her dead body Chat Icon Chat Icon I knew it was coming because I read this thread before I watched the documentary but still Chat Icon. They stayed on that frame for SO long Chat Icon

We will never know what made her do what she did. However, the fact of the matter is she was drunk & stoned. I don't care if her tooth hurt, you don't drink THAT much while you have 5 innocent children in the car with you, not to mention all of the other innocent people driving on the road.

Her husband is ridiculous, as is her SIL. I don't care if she was an alcoholic or not an alcoholic...the toxicology reports (BOTH of them, since it was retested), don't lie. She might not have been an alcoholic (who knows) but she sure as shti was drunk that day Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't believe that for a second. I think they were all smoking all weekend which would mean they probably did it on a regular basis.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"

I think it is 100% possible for someone to smoke a LOT of pot and not have family or friends know about it. Because I never knew about people smoking pot and then when I found out I was shocked. I do not think she had a stroke. I never thought of the suicide angle but that does sound plausible to me.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I watched the documentary last night and I feel it was in poor taste to show Diane's body. I think it was disrespectful to her and her family, regardless of the situation.

Yes, 3 still images....very close up, VERY graphic....it was awful. I still cant get it out of my head.

I cant imagine her friends and family seeing those images...her poor mother and father, etc. I wonder if he alone gave permission? It was awful, def did not need to be shown. I think he was trying to gain sympathy....but it was just awful and shocking to see.

I'm talking about the sister shown in the documentary. She was smoking a cig. and said her entire family didn't know she smokes, and they will now when they see the documentary.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"

I can't stop discussing this. I was talking to my Mom earlier. She believes that she was a closet drinker. She doesn't think this was something new to her. She thinks something happened at that camp site before they left, some kind of big fight or finding out something which led her to drink and smoke in the car. She thinks that her state of mind of whatever it was they fought about or found out put her in a bad frame of mind to begin with. It hit her hard and she just continued to do it. She thinks she left the phone so she wouldnt be contacted by anyone..she didnt stop because her thing was to get everything done and in the proper amount of time. She thinks she was trying to get them home. Was so drunk and high that she ended up on the Taconic going the wrong way and killed all of them. Sounds feasible to me. Except for the fact that she seems so focused on the Taconic. But she was driving like a maniac before that. Maybe she never realized she was even going in the wrong direction once she was on there.

They have no recordings of those cell phone calls at all? I know texts can be pulled up in instances like this..but phone calls cant? I mean actual conversations..not just numbers.

another thing that I find puzzling...it was said that she went into the gas station convenience store looking for pain reliever...did you see the video? Are you telling me this "store", with a sunglass rack on the counter, didn't have packets of advil, tylenol, etc?
