Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I have TERRIBLE teeth and terrible tooth pain (and I've had numerous abcesses over my life) and I would NEVER drink or smoke pot and then drive with any kids in my car.
And abcesses dont pop out over night - there is usually pain days before. She shouldnt have left the site if she was in such bad pain.
Regardless of the REASONS she drank and smoked, I DO consider her a monster. Nothing makes that ok. NOTHING. Suicide, murder, accident after drinking too much - it all had the same outcome.

There is something that is just not sitting right with me.
I dont like the husband. The relationship with the SIL is weird, to close.
The doctor theybmet with who did the autopsy for the second time, he was the defenses dr for Casey Anthony.
The witnesses who called and reported what theynsaw thatnday all said the same thing. She was driving out of control but with a mission.
The cell phone on the side of the road?? Why??
The PI who up and left? Why?
And, the whole I didnt want to have kids bit, and getting upset with the son....disgusting.
I dont know...cant she just be a SIL who is devastated for her nephew and BIL, and wants to help?
And as for the cell phone, why couldnt she have been pulled over, out of the car, getting sick, and laid her phone there, forgetting it was left there and get back in the car and drive? People with less confusion and upset leave their cell phones places everyday, kwim? I dont think the cell phone being left there means a thing.
Also...as for her being on a mission, she could have been so out of it that she just lost all senses and thought she was dreaming or such, kwim?
I dont know what to make of it all. I also dont think its odd her DH drove home and she took the kids and did her own thing. She had a car full of kids. Not odd the kids all went with her and all wanted to be together. She took them to eat. She got gas. I just dont buy she was planning to kill herself and all of them, got gas and food to kill them all.
So what do you truly believe happened? I mean, there's not doubt the liquor and pot was in her system. Do you think she did that to numb pain? Do you think what they did? Did she think the vodka was water? Just curious to know what you think happened.
One of the theories going around at the time of the accident was that she might have suffered a mini stroke. It's also called a transient ischemic attack. Basically, it is a small stroke that comes and goes, not leaving any evidence on the brain. So it wouldn't have shown up on an autopsy. It gives symptoms like loss of vision, dimming of vision, slurred speech, mental confusion. If this had happened, who's to say she didn't pick up the bottle of vodka thinking it was something else and chug it. I'm not saying that is what happened, but to me it does sound like a possible reason and one that is easier to swallow than a woman who is a monster.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I watched half of it so far. I had a few thoughts. First the relationship between the husband and SIL was strange. I think someone on here said they may have had an affair I would believe it after seeing this docmentary.
When she stopped at the gas station she *looked* sober enough...I don't know. I would think someone would be stumbling unless she had an alcolhol problem I guess. I don't know
The suicde theory is also an interesting theory. The husband creeps me out!

It's really is so incredibly sad but in a weird way nice to see people around town stick together...they were around my house last night around 9 pm putting them up. And they'll be back tonight to take them down. They only stay up for today only.

I couldn't bring myself to watch this and don't know all the facts but if he is claiming she had tooth pain-so bad she'd have to guzzle vodka, wouldn't a normal person with children in the corner pull off and call for help? Family? 911? I don't get it.

When she stopped at the gas station she *looked* sober enough...I don't know.
i don't think she looked sober at all... she sped into the station, jumped out of the car, walked into the store with her sunglasses on, looked around for a few seconds like she was lost, and turned around and walked right back out only to get in her car and speed away. that doesn't scream sober to me

The way she drove out of there, her sunglasses stayed on and how she walked in and out again are huge red flags for me. No she wasn't stumbling but there are plenty of times where I am not stumbling but shouldn't be driving a car. I wonder what she asked for? Hard to believe a convenience store didn't have tylenol or a pain killer if thats what people think she was asking for. Did the guy working there ever say?

Such a sad time around FP for a couple of days during the summer...between this accident and the accident where the teenagers died last summer....so incredibly sad. But FP just bans together and honors the departed. Just makes me want to cry!

See, this is where it all comes down to person interpretation. I didn't think it looked like she sped into the station. She certainly didn't jump out of her car and run into the store. She got out like I would and walked inside. What is so incriminating about keeping your sunglasses on? People wear their sunglasses on inside all the time. She looked around, asked the guy behind the counter for something that they didn't have and walked out. To me, and it's JMO, that doesn't scream drunk.
It's incredible that even with the video, different people see different things.

ITA. I don't understand why people try to find a reason to justify why she drank and smoke pot.

For me, I'm not trying to justify that she drank and smoked pot. I'm trying to understand if there is some reason, ANY reason at all out there that can explain why. Because anything else is just too horrible to wrap my brain around. See my post above about the theory that she had a mini stroke. It doesn't take away the fact that she had what she had in her system. But it could be a reason easier to accept than her being a monster.

I saw the video and no, I didn't see where she drove into oncoming traffic. I think it's strange that the video is very choppy. It keeps stopping, not sure if it's my computer or the video. I saw her pull around the pumps and then stop. It cuts off before you see her pull out. To me, that's not much different than me or anyone else at the gas station.

It's your PC then because it's not choppy when I watch it, and you can see her erratically whip around the station and out of the parking lot.
It also appears she walks over to the drink section in the store looking for something. Then asks the clerk a question and leaves. Maybe she needed another kind of mixer...maybe she was looking for more liquor, which gas stations don't usually sell do they?

Mine wasn't choppy...she whipped around the gas pumps...you can tell how fast she was going bc there was a grey minivan also going towards the exit, and much closer than her, and she whipped by them into the left side of the opening and barely stopped before going into oncoming traffic...

This is how I saw it on my ipad. She def didnt use any caution leaving the pump, and gas station.
And, people keep saying she pumped gas, I didnt see her pump anything.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
Once when we were driving home from our beach house (about a 3 hour drive) my father suffered brain swelling. We had no idea what was happening, but he started slurring his speech and not making sense. He took it upon himself to pull over into an emergency room at the hospital (we were in a neighborhood we knew.) So if she did suffer some kind of stroke, I can see her getting confused, but why would a bottle of vodka and marijuana be sitting up front with her. I don't believe that, she had used both of these before driving. I also think it is interesting in the article that was posted pointed out of course McDonald's would say she seemed sober, otherwise they did nothing about it.

If she was having a stroke, couldn't see, couldn't talk, etc. she would have pulled over and called 911. That is what anyone would do. You don't down a bottle of vodka and keep on driving with 5 kids in the car. The stroke, the abscess, everything else is just a bunch of hogwash if you ask me.

Me too, and not that this is funny at all, but I did chuckle at, "Later, her defenders used the Chicken Selects defense and state the McDonald’s employees determined she was not drunk. Like no drunk person has ever successfully ordered at McDonald’s apparently. "

Another thing, I thought it was interesting that Daniel Schuler hired, of all the attorneys in NY, Dominic Barbera!
IMO, he is a awful attorney, but a wicked spin master...
Think Jose Baez in 20 years!

Who's to say what "anyone" would do if having a stroke. Online you can find that one of the possible symptoms of a stroke is impaired judgement. One of the examples I found was driving a car when you shouldn't.
I don't know, for me, finding some explanation in a possibility like that makes it easier to comprehend. Could it be hogwash, yes, could it be a possibility, yes. I would rather think that there was some horrible medical problem than to think she did it on purpose.

I'm so sad that we'll never know the truth.
I want to know what was said in those phone conversations. Why didn't they make the police aware that they were dealing with a possible drunk driver? They didn't stress the urgency.
People who knew Diane said she was a wonderful person. Just goes to show you that we never know what goes on behind closed doors.
I know that after this story no one will drive my children besides myself, my husband, and my parents. You just never know.
This tragedy could have been avoided. Those poor babies. Those poor innocent men.
