Those NOT Breastfeeding
Those of you who are not BF'ing.... are you going straight to formula and not even trying? Are you planning to try and d 1 or 2 feedings and then cutting it off?
I am not BF'ing... but was considering doing those first few... probably cause I am so tired of getting the guilt trip about not BF'ing.... but I feel strongly about my decision.
really bothers me that even formula cans tell you to BF????

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
ugh, it was a game day decision with Jack. As soon as he was born - I was totally overwhelmed and decided to strictly FF. Never once tried to BF.
A few weeks later, I had some guilt wishing I had tried.
I am still on the fence this time around. I may give it a try - if it works, great. If not, no problem, right to formula. I would be OK either way.
Do what you are most comfortable with and what works for you. Don't be surprised though if in the moment, you want to give it a try

Not BFing or trying. Didn't with either of my boys and never felt guilty. You shouldn't feel guilty either.

Those NOT Breastfeeding
Not PG yet, but my husband and I have talked about this as we start trying.
I wont even try to BF. I have no desire to. I don't want anything to do with it frankly. And I don't feel guilty.
I decided not to because I want sleep. I don't want cracked nipples. I don't want to be the only source of food for my child. I don't want the hassle. And I know my child will be just fine, and helthy and normal if I don't BF.
Do whats right for you. Don't let anyone bully you or make you feel guilty. If you want to try thats GREAT. If you don't even want to try? Thats great.
But don't make any decision based on how OTHERS make you feel. You will do whats right for you.

I was going to post something like the above but she said it perfectly.
I tried to BF and couldn't so I went to formula. I felt so guilty but once my DD started gaining back the almost pound she lost in the first 2 days of her life my guilt went away because I knew I was doing what was best for my child.

Those NOT Breastfeeding
Never tried with DD, didn't have any desire to at all. Never felt guilty about it. When I had DS I again had no desire so I didn't, some people questioned my decision because he was a preemie. He was 50% for weight by his 2 month appointment, is now in the 75% at 2 years old and didn't get a cold until he was almost a year. Now with DC#3 I still have no desire.
Don't let anyone talk you into or out of what you wany to do or not do.

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
Im Not even trying. And don't feel guilty - you need to do what's best for you,and you can't take back those early moments if you and baby are miserable! Don't worry about formula cans- they have to post every little disclaimer! They are just postingswhat the medical world decided is best nutritionally, but it doesn't take into account what's best emotionally and big-picture wise.

Those NOT Breastfeeding
I told the staff at NSUH that I was unsure but wanted to try and they totally pushed me into it and when I wanted to give her a bottle they made me feel terrible and gave me a really hard time. This time I don't think I'm gonna try at all for that reason.

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
I have no desr to breast feed.... In fact it actually creeps me out to see others breastfeed. It's just something I am very uncomfortable with. I don't think I will have any regrets

Those NOT Breastfeeding
The stress and pressure to BF caused me to have pretty significant PPD. I always assumed I would be able to BF and when I wasn't able to, I became stressed out and frustrated. I wish I made the decision to FF while pregnant because what is supposed to be a natural thing made me miss out on quite a few weeks of enjoying my daughter. Please don't feel guilty and do what is best for you.

Those NOT Breastfeeding
Don't you dare feel guilty woman! You have to do what works best for you! You also have a super demanding job so if you were to start off BFing and then have any issues switching to the bottle later on you might not have time to pump at work and then who knows what... I assume sore boobs etc etc ) I'm going to give BFing a shot but honestly if it doesn't work I'm not going to lose sleep over it and just go right to formula.

Those NOT Breastfeeding
I played it by ear, and in the hospital when they asked me what i wanted to do, I told them BF didn't fit my goals, lifestyle and medical issues I may have. I said I'd try pumping. They didn't push me, and i pumped for 2 weeks, then trailed off. I put them on the boob to try it "one last time" and lo and behold, I thought it was great! I did it for a few days here and there, always supp with formula, then trailed off. I think it's not for everyone, and the hospitals understand if you just tell them straight out how you feel. they were great.

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
Honestly, I FF my kids (mostly). I pumped for a few weeks with my second son because I just decided to try (i HATED breastfeeding) and pumping was better for me..didn't hurt as much, i had a pretty good supply. But it was very time consuming with having a 3 year old to watch as well. This time around I'll have two other children aside from the newborn and i'm going back to school. I'm thinking I'll go straight to formula and I really have zero guilt. My boys thrived on formula, and so did my siblings and I (all 6 of us).
Don't let anyone make you feel bad. Sometimes (so i've found) other moms can be the worst offenders at laying guilt trips. We are all doing the best for our kids, believe me!!

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
I didnt even try. And i don't feel guilty at all. I told the hospital when they asked, that i would be formula feeding and no one tried to guilt me or make me change my mind (honestly i think they do that when you say you aren't sure, they think they can sway you to bf). Having a newborn is overwhelming and all-consuming enough, i cant even imagine having to bf on top of it. Do what's right for you.

Re: Those NOT Breastfeeding
This is my 3rd. I am not BFing. I didn't with my first two and felt no guilt. I knew it was not for me. This time around I have to go back on medication that won't allow me to be able to bf anyway. Both my kids are perfectly healthy and have had no issues at all.

I don't understand what is confusing about this. I only BF for a short time and pumped and felt guilty and when we have our next kid I will do whatever it takes to be more successful. That being said, it's a fact that BM is best so what they wrote on the can is giving the best advice.
