Hate my split. I used to hate ranches, but now that i have little kids, I wish this is what we had.

Love a sprawling ranch. I grew up in a colonial and owned 2 and I much prefer a one level (besides basement) home. Something like this..

I wanted a colonial but ended up getting a high ranch - easier to open up livign area then most colonials - i love that we live on one main floor -we have 3 bed and 2 baths on the main floor - so i don't feel like i am running up and down stairs constantly

I like colonials, victorians and tudors. Not a fan of ranches, splits or high ranches. I just prefer older, more traditional homes and like all the bedrooms on the second floor.

My dream home is a Victorian or Colonial

We couldn't find either in our financial comfort level. We both agreed that we weren't going to be "house poor".

We were 95% sure this house was going to be starter so we went w/a Cape. Def not my dream home but good enough for now. We will def have to revisit that once we start a family and have multiple kids. I liked the cape b/c it can be turned into a Colonial if need be.

I love Victorians, Colonials and Splits.
I do not care for Capes at all... I don't like the pitched walls in the bedrooms

We ended up with a Colonial.

I love colonials or a nice large wideline ranch. I don't like splits or high ranches. We live in a cape, not my first choice but they can be converted to colonials. I have to say all the up and down the stairs isn't great which is why I would love a sprawling ranch.

Right now, I am completely into farm houses. Big wood floor planks.

I want at least 1 bedroom/1 bath downstairs though.

i like tudors, though i can't ever see myself living in one. if i ever buy another home, i think it would be a colonial. i don't like capes. I live in a contemporary. it's very unique!

My favorite styles are victorian and tudor. Never found one in our price range with all of our must-haves though.

My second favorite is colonial. Both homes we've owned have been this style.

I would be open to ranches, hi-ranches, splits, etc. The only style I truly don't like are capes, like another poster mentioned, I don't care for the pitched ceilings in the bedrooms.

I LOVE craftsmen, victorain, old colonials (preferebly center hall), tudors and farm type houses.

I like and live in a ranch. I have also grown to like capes..especially farm style capes.

I am not a fan of high ranches or splits. They do not have the curb appeal I typically like in a home. I also do not like the layout of most of these.

Our new home is a front to back split and I LOVE it, we were looking at more traditional splits, but this layout is even more open. Our old house was a ranch and I really did not like having the bedrooms on the same floor as the entertaining space.

I would love a tudor, spanish colonial, or a french colonial. As long as I could renovate the inside, i don't care about the flow - I do want bedrooms on the second floor.


we are in a colonial and I'm not a huge fan of the look of colonial or victorian. But maybe b/c I grew up up in a coloinal that my mom desperately wanted to turn into a victorian (including the crazy victorian colors)

Ideal? Hamptons Style, Farm Ranch (with full front porch), Sprawling Ranch, New England Colonial, Log Cabin, French Chateau
(a girl can dream, can't she? )

Avoid? Post Modern Colonial, Post Modern Victorian, Split and High Ranch
(Avoid is a strong word. We didn't write off any types of homes when we were house hunting. Location & property were more important to us.)

I hate high-ranches, I grew up in one and I just don't like the layout at all. I always wanted a 2 story home (like a colonial) and when I was ready to buy and I swore I would NEVER get a ranch because I HATE everything being on one floor. Of course, we fell in love with a ranch home, much to my surprise, and that's what we havenow. However, although it has its benefits I am REALLY looking forward to moving one day because I really regret giving up on a 2 story house. At the core, I am not a ranch kinda girl.

I love Victorian homes (too expensive for a first home) and Ranches. I'm shocked at all the dislike of Capes here lol

I like Capes, I think they are pretty charming. We are hoping to get one fairly soon and of course doing a rear dormer to make the upstairs more usable space.
It's just DH and I for now and looking at 1 child if it's in the cards, so a Cape is perfect for us

I am not big onl anything with "anch" in it.

and I also avoided new constructions...new like after 1950

I like old homes. LOVE old style victorians.

we ended up with a colonial farm house built in 1800.

it had a pack porch converted to the laundry room. we'll be adding on a porch eventually I hope.

ETA" I love the front of craftsman homes. the porches are awesome. we just didn't really look at any in our area. I

I think if you are looking in CT, I would go OLD. fisherman. cottage or even cape.

I like colonials and victorians mainly. I really dislike ranches, high ranches, and capes.
