Why is everyone not freaking out?
He should have been placed in a mandatory quarantine. And to those who think it won't effect their families maybe not, but it's effecting someone's family. About 5k people are dead. Children are orphaned in the street and ostracized from society, as well as the survivors. It's a horrific illness to get even if you live. I don't think it's a joke or funny.

The joke isn't the disease. The joke is people in this country who are not in that situation and will never be, who are concerned with catching this.

Well this infected man while sick with a fever traveled from Brooklyn to manhattan, went bowling, ride in a taxi and the subway. I don't think that's funny and if he doesn't infect anyone personally it's just a matter of time before someone does.
These people are all idiots. The nurse who flew. The doctor who snuck out to a restaurant while on quarantine and now this doctor who you would think should have more common sense.
FYI if you're been to west Africa and have a fever call 911. Don't go bowling.

This doctor had no symptoms while he was traveling around the city. The nurse called the CDC and they told her it was OK to fly. You are not going to catch this unless you come in contact with bodily fluids. That poor man from Africa who died? His fiancee didn't even catch it and they were living in the same house while he was symptomatic for days. This isn't the flu or a cold. It's much much harder to catch.

I was just coming here to say this idiot went bowling YESTERDAY at The Gutter in Williamsburg. Now this business has to shut down to disinfect! What a nightmare for business owners...who pays for the business they lose while doing this?!? I'm sorry, but if you know you are w/in the incubation period and just came from W. Africa, you should have the personal responsibility to not be out on the town!!!!

Why is everyone not freaking out?
Is it standard for someone like him having just returned from caring for people with the virus to go into quarantine for 3 weeks when they get back?
I'm guessing not, but maybe they should be to avoid all this. Then again, it makes me feel better that none of the original patient's family caught it when he was clearly sick and was home with all of them.

My opinion is we don't know enough about this disease and how it's transmitted. It's also a virus and it mutates. And I suspect Duncan KNEW we was infected. He knew he helped an infected woman and up and left his life to come to the USA for the first time. They call her his finacee yet they hadn't seen each other in 16 years and we has a 13 year old...
I personally feel unnerved that it is in my backyard. It's easy to deal with a handful of people but if it spreads on a larger scale we will not have the room to house everyone. It's has the potential to become a disaster.

Viruses don't mutate that quickly. This virus has been known to humans since the early 70's. This strain is less deadly then some. I understand being concerned but there is really nothing we can do. I live literally down the street from Bellevue. I take public transport everyday and i'm not concerned at all.

If the dr. felt sluggish, and you came from West Africa, why on earth would you go out bowling? Foolish!!!
And for those who feel this doesn't affect them or their family, that's great and I appreciate chuckle. But while you keep shrugging it off, please say silent prayer for those who work as first responders, or who has family members who work as police, emt, firefighters, physicians, nurses, pa's, techs, aides.. please do, there are quite a few of us who will not be resting easy.

I jstu dont understand this, as medical professionals, with KNOWN contact with Ebola patients, why do they continue putting everyone at risk. Im sorry, if you had KNOWN contact with someone with Ebola, 21 day mandatory quarantine.

I will say it again since some people don't realize it but all those first responders and health care workers and doctors go home to their families and their families go to work and school with you and your kids. So I am sorry but no one is exempt from this. This isn't an exclusive disease to those on the front lines only.

I wasn't going to comment on any of these Ebola threads, but well said. I work in a hospital in the city and take both the LIRR and subway to get there. Am I freaking out? No, but I'm certainly a bit uneasy. My thoughts are with the staff at Bellevue and their families, who I'm sure are very, very rightfully freaking out. From what I've heard, Bellevue isn't the only area hospital accepting these patients- Cornell, Mt. Sinai and North Shore have also been trained.
You would honestly think a doctor intelligent enough to have earned a fellowship at Columbia would know better than to go bowling 9 days after returning from treating Ebola patients. Though, I guess this shows doctors really are the worst patients......

Why is everyone not freaking out?
While I agree if he felt he had symptoms, to go out of the house and go bowling is foolish. However, in the countries where this is spreading so fast and killing people, a lot them are in third world countries where people don't even have running water to go wash their hands. It's going to spread more quickly and be more devastating in those areas, naturally. I don't think we need to go crazy with worry.

we live in a country that for the most part has running water and MOST people don't wash their hands, and many Drs don't wash before they touch you.
I meant to only quote the hand washing but still cant figure out how to partial quote lol

Well no kidding there are plenty of pigs in this nation lol. I was just watching a news special where they went to some of the countries and there is a lot more involved than just that. They have burial rituals with the bodies of those who have died. The government wants to confiscate the bodies of those who died from Ebola , the people in the tribes don't want to so they lie or hide the bodies. They lie about loved ones dying from or having Ebola. Combine this with the lack of basic necessities (such as water, electric etc) and it just spells disaster...
