Re: Will you be really upset or mad if YOUR candidate doesn't win?
I would be disappointed and concerned about where our country will be for the next 4 years. But alas-- I was disappointed in the last 2 elections and quite frankly I dont think anyone can do worse of a job then what W has done.

I will be absolutely petrified. I don't have any confidence in the other candidate. I feel this country is going in the wrong direction - I will be voting my conscience and will be proud to do so.

And one more thing, I heard something on TV the other night, very interesting...everyone is talking about McCain dying (when, frankly, he is not that old, he's not 95!)...but did anyone ever think of Obama dying? You know that in this country there are very racist people, and if he wins, well I can sadly see JFK all over again.
I've thought about it. But I feel confident with Biden as his "back-up". He is intelligent, has plenty of experience, and is basically everything that I feel Palin is not.
I agree... its sad, but there is a real shot of something happening to Obama. If it does happen, I am confident in Biden's ability to take over. I am scared to death of the possibility of Palin taking over

I would be ok with McCain as President- I don't agree with his ideas but I think he is intelligent. However, Sarah Palin makes me very nevous for a lot of reasons and I think she will be a disaster as VP, never mind what happens if she ends up President.

Re: Will you be really upset or mad if YOUR candidate doesn't win?
either one of them can severely muck it all up
I will say that the I don't believe (though I could be wrong b/c this is just something I feel and havent' researched to death) that the republican economic plan has EVER worked. it never trickles down far enough.
but even that, will only be for four years...b/c no matter who gets elected, if people don't see RESULTS especially in the economy, they will be a one term pony (or donkey, or elefant )

nervous. It seems like in the past few years, our circle of peers have more degrees under their belt, working more hours...yet doing worse then a couple of years ago. I don't feel like we are moving in the right direction, I feel a the gap widening and it makes me nervous.
I guess I never thought about it, but I really don't know that many republicans. This site has got me feeling queesy lately. Its like access into the young republican's mind. Thought processes are so different. Mindsets really aren't that alike at all.
So without this site, I may have just been upset if my candidate did not win. Now, it will leave me feeling sort of sick.
Why will you feel sick?
I don't think the poor stand a chance. I thought there was more humanity out there, there's not. People pay taxes. People without kids don't get a chance to take the deduction...people without homes don't get a chance to take the deduction...Someone's got to pay though.
I am not a bracket where I make more then 250,000...but you know what? I wish I was, I wouldn't mind paying more in tax if that was the tradeoff.
The country is full of children without a voice. Tons of them...some born to parents who aren't lucky in life, others who just don't try for a better life. All these kids deserve the right to basic needs. Good schools, food, shelter, insurance.

The middle class doesn't stand a chance either
the deduction on my home is a pittance compared to what I pay out; and I am far from rich.
I love what Obama says; he has great vision. He has ZERO experience/plans on how to EXECUTE these plans. If he does all he says he wants to, there will be more taxes other than on people making over $200K.

Re: Will you be really upset or mad if YOUR candidate doesn't win?
Exactly- what most people don't realize is the average salary you need to live on Long Island puts you way above the bracket you need to be in to see all these tax cuts they are promising to the so called "middle class". I am far from rich as well- but I would never qualify....

okay, that's my point though. People have it bad, really bad. the taxes on your Long Island home are high, and I am sorry you are going through that...but people having cancer without insurance is more of a strain in my mind then the taxes of a homeowner in a desired neighborhood. Eldery working themselves till they die to pay for meds...

Meaghan, just imagine though, the people who make less than you do and pay $2000 a month in RENT just to give their family a good home.
they don't even get the benefit of that deduction! .
I understand what Janice is saying. Sometimes I feel a little cold.
also, I think this "no experience" thing is a misnomer anyway.
obama is smart enough to get guys WITH the experience into his cabinet.
just look at his pick in Biden. NO ONE is better or more knowlegeable in foreign policy...particularly the middle east. we NEED someone like that.
I just wanted to point that out...at least when thinking about it this was my thought process.
mccains healthcare plan is an absolute disaster for so many people...but we are so afraid of a "tax increase" that we will march blindly towards deregulation of ANOTHER already corrupt industry even in the midst of a financial crisis (and I don't BLAME the republicans for this...I BLAME DEREGULATION and GREED...which the health care industry is chomping at the bit for and rife with, respectively).
the trickle down financial system he espouses will NEVER EVER work. whatever he CAN do for us, fixing the economy will not be one of them. it's just not in the republican repertoire.

DH and I work VERY hard to pay for our house on LI. I am more concerned about income taxes than I am about property taxes at this point.
I do feel bad for people who have cancer without insurance. My father died of cancer and left my mother, sister and I with no life insurance policy, no pension, nada. my sister and I got jobs to support ourselves. I had no health insurance when I was 19. what did I do? Quit my job and found one that I was able to get insurance.

and that is their choice to spend $2k on rent. I can move off LI and buy a cheaper house, I chose to stay. And as I said, the tax write off is nothing compared to what I am paying out.

I really mean this...if life has always been that kind to you in your choice making (NOT anything else) just your ease at quitting jobs and getting new ones to suit your needs, that is fabulous...really it is.
but realize that NOT EVERYONE has that choice. for reasons beyond their control.
but really never mind....what difference does it make.???????

Re: Will you be really upset or mad if YOUR candidate doesn't win?
that's great Meaghan, YOU are quite the go getter.
Sounds like your DH is as well. Sounds like you guys live a great life. Your future kids will be lucky to have you guys as parents.
Our lives are very similiar. I always worked 2 jobs, was lucky enough to go to college on a scholarship, DH currently works 60 hours a week...we lived with my parents while he finished up school-paying as we go to avoid loans.
I live in a GREAT neighborhood. No worries about school systems. I have a child who has been in the hospital 4 times in the past 6 months, luckily, we have insurance and savings...
Somehow though, that doesn't block my vision of seeing how others struggle and need help. Insurance companies are RUTHLESS. Pre-exisitng conditions, deductibles, co-pays, pre-authorizations...What happens when they send a dr in to see your sick child who isn't on your insurance plan? I'll tell you...nothing. aggravation.

Yes, I will be really upset.
I cried when Bush was elected back into office in '04--I just couldn't believe that the American people would put HIM back into office. It scared the **** outta me. I just couldn't believe that "we" gave him another 4 years to continue his crusade.
We need to go 180 degrees in the opposite direction, and I feel that John McCain is NOT the way to do it.

Im sorry, I just said my father died of cancer (unexpectedly and when I was 17 I might add) - and I had to put my big girl panties on and find employment that had health benefits instead of staying at my current job and whining about it - (i was a waitress by the way, so it wasnt like I needed 2 college degrees to get it) and you are telling me that my life choices have been kind?
a LOT of people are LAZY and that is a problem in America.
yes, there are people who have no choice - but they are few and far between.
