Re: Would you be mad? Ear piercing

I personally like ear peircing. HOWEVER, if you told him your were NOT on board yet and he did... I would be livid. There isn't much you can do now. However, my DH would hear it.

ETA: I read one response that kind of changed my mind a bit. A mom wouldn't think twice of doing this without dad there.... I think he may have honestly thought he was doing something nice and fun. I would still be mad but, I would let him have it and then get over it.

Am I the only one who thinks its so cute the dad cared this much to take her? I think it's sweet! I can see why you might be mad but this seems like one of those stories you'll laugh about someday!

I kinda agree.

I think after an initial period of being absolutely livid, this would be my long-term thought about it.

Holy shit I would be pissed. DH and I make decisions together and if he ever did something like put holes in my kid's head when I said i wasn't ready yet, I would go out of my mind. It would make me question what else he was going to independently make decisions about later on without taking my opinions into account. That's just not how decisions are made in parenting at least in my relationship. I am so angry for you!!!!

Enraged!

Especially bc we've fought about this. He wants to do it now and I want her to make the decision.

And if I WAS going to get them done I would most definitely want to be there.

I actually feel angry for you.

I sometimes feel I have to let him be a dad and make decisions for his DD too, i think sometimes we as mom's tend to make all the decisions with our kids. Like if we took them to get their ears pierced and sent our DH a photo it wouldn't be a big deal.

I agree with this and I'm trying to focus on it through my anger.

I disagree. I dont know about other people but i would never take DC to do something "special" for the first time wothout DH or without him saying its okay for him not to be there.

I think its super cute that dad took her and was so excited, but, a daughter having her ears poerced to me is a special moment and she should have been asked to attend! That makes me more upset than the fact they didnt come to an agreement as to WHEN was the right time.

Guess I'm in the minority on this one. I wouldn't be too bothered by it, but I'm kinda indifferent about earrings on her anyway

I would be PISSED! Pissed that he took it upon himself to do it, you hadn't made a decision, and you weren't there to share in the memory.

I'm actually pissed for you.

This - I'd be fuming

Re: Would you be mad? Ear piercing

It would be HUGEST blowout in the world b/c I am the MOM, and ALL decisions, especially regarding something permanent like holes in your ears, MUST be something I agree to for my child. I would personally find it weird and crossing a line that my child's father was so gung ho on getting it done that he snuck behind my back and did it to "surprise" me. Holes in my DDs ears that I did not a) agree to and b) decide on/approved by me, would not be a "surprise" to me, it would feel like a sneaky trick. And I would be even more upset *I* was not there for the memory and to comfort MY child. I would teach my DH a good lesson about how NO decisions re my child are ever made without ME. EVER.

Sorry if my response upsets you but I find this soooo odd that a dad would feel so inclined to make that choice for his DD.

This would turn into a huge issue. IMO, that is a major line crossed. I would be seeing nothing but red.

Impossible for me to imagine this happening. I would be beyond furious. I just got my 5 year old daughters ears pierced and of course made sure he agreed that it was the right time. We are a team. We don't have to agree on what she'll eat for breakfast, but on something that alters her body we certainly do. If one of us was unsure we would wait.

ITA. This wasn't sweet surprise. This was sneaky. He knew his wife wasnt really on board at this time and immediately went behind her back and did it any way----which thereby excluded her from what typically is a mother/daughter experience. He did so under the guise of a "surprise". It is nice that as a dad he really wants to be apart of his daughters life and even participate in the "girly" things, but why exclude her mother?

Re: Would you be mad? Ear piercing *UPDATE*

After reading your update, his intentions sound very good and sweet. I think I would still be a little upset that he just assumed the reason behind the hesitation. But it does seem like it was all coming from a good place.

Ita , I can't even say how absolutely enraged I would be. It was sneaky , not sweet.
