Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

I think she was wrong and should bite the bullet for this one. $40 is not going to kill you, but it damn sure isn't going to kill her either.

I have my own business and I make proposals and draft contracts. But I also make sure to proof them at least 10x before I send them out.

I also don't like the tone of her email, she's totally playing on your conscious for $40...really?!? As a business owner, I would be happy for a client like you because not only did you pay in full, but you came back to add more services!!!!

What a dummy of her! She had every opportunity to make you a customer who would have sung her praises. If I were her, I would have only charged for the extra service and mentioned that I made a previous mistake in the last invoice, but was going to honor it because it's been a pleasure working with you. SHAME ON HER!

There are for sure good things and bad things that can happen when dealing with such a small vendor. This is a not so good thing......It was poor personal judgment, that is what unfortunatly sometimes happens when you are dealing with a person and not a large company or coporation.

I think I would pay the remaining fee, but make sure I let the vendor know that the email came across very unprofessional -whether it may or may not have been meant to come across in that way.

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

I truly loved this vendor and had no problem, but I think she is wrong in this case. Even if I had seen the $0, I would have assumed this was a stock free paper. If I were you, I'd pay it b/c I'd hate to fight over $40, but AFTER receiving my invites, I'd say something to her about business practices and write a review on LIW as well as the knot.

Jen, I agree with those who said not to pay. The way she did it WAS sneaky - the invoice didn't automatically generate, she did it herself and just hoped you wouldn't notice.

I hope you don't have any more problems Chat Icon

You should pay it. It was a mistake and you are trying to take advantage of it. My guess is that you would have purchased the items if she correctly quoted you initially. Her email was actually very nice. It is is hard to be a small business owner and turn a profit. It is the right thing to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if she blogs about it....in 2009 someone complained about her on liw and she blogged about how she had been crying over the things people said about her Chat Icon Chat Icon

She's supposed to be a business owner - she messed up. She shouldn't guilt you into paying for her error.

write a check and move on.

$40 is not worth the aggravation.

For me, it's a matter of accuracy. If she can't be trusted to deliver accurate invoices, can she be trusted to deliver accurate invites?Chat Icon

I vote for insisting on ALL of your money back and finding a new vendor.

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD

I knew who this vendor was right away from your first post. She is a spotty b. I can't believe some of the rude emails I got from her. I had a very similar issue. She calculated the total wrong. I always double check everything. After I brought that to her attention it was nothing but spotty, snippy responses to my emails.
I am kicking myself for not cursing her out but I was a desperate bride who needed my invites... lol.
Anyway, the invites turned out very nice. Not perfect, but I was happy with them.

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD - UPDATED in first post

She apologized. She didn't really mention her tone, but she's taking the charge off and apolpgized over making a big deal over $40, so I am happy bride again.
ETA: I'm really glad it worked out without a confrontation

I'm glad everything worked out for you.

One thing tho, you mention about tone I think that when reading emails it can come across many different ways. I remember back from LIW days when people would complain about vendors and emails they received that I could take the same email and read it 3 different ways and interpret it differently

Glad it worked out for you. I'm pretty sure she knows about LIW/LIF so I wouldn't be surprised if she saw this thread. Either way glad you didn't have to pay!

One thing this post did was prompt me to look at her website...she has some beautiful invites. I'm glad she came to her senses because honestly, I'd never be able to work or recommend someone who snuck in an extra charge without an explanation, even if it was itemized.

I had a birthday party location do that to me. Every time I recommend them I tell the person to be aware of the bs they pulled with me.

Re: WR - Problem with vendor- WWYD - UPDATED in first post

Her work is beautiful. Barb, you can see my invites on her sit under "work in progress"..

She wrote me another email this morning explaining how she felt and why she got defensive. She said she felt accused of doing something underhanded when it was an honest mistake (my email to her was basically "my charge should not have gone up. as far as I'm concerned, I paid my materials fee in full based on our contract") but she was really nice about it.

I'm feeling a lot better. FH and I were both feeling upset about it yesterday and I wasn't sure how to handle it, and I'm glad she did the right thing (IMO) and even more glad it was settled without any kind of confrontation or bad blood. I wanted to stand up for myself but not jeaopardize a civil business relationship in the process, so I'm happy.

Glad it worked out in your favor!

It's not the first time I've heard about issues with this vendor - both in attitude and money wise. I'd venture to guess she saw this thread as well.
