WWYD about random car parked outside your house? - First update...
UPDATE: I called the police and gave them the information on the car.
They ended up giving it a ticket because you can't park on our street on Thursday's between 9-12.
So now it is still out there with a ticket on it.
If it is still there next Thursday, I am going to call again to see what the next steps are. That will be almost 3 weeks of a car outside my house that hasn't moved.

Here are the details.
A couple of days before the blizzard, a car parked on the street half in front of our house, half in front of our neighbor's house.
It's a car that we have never seen before.
We live in a residential town in NJ and normally there are no cars parked on the street because everyone has their own driveways.
This is almost 2 weeks ago that the car appeared. It has not moved since. Has not been touched. Has not been shoveled out from the snow.
My DH asked our neighbors if they knew who the car belonged to and they have no idea either.
I also want to add that we live on a street a few blocks from the train station so you are supposed to have a sticker on your car to park on the street (they try to avoid having people park on the residential streets to avoid paying to park in the train station lot). So far this car has not been ticketed yet. Technically, they should be getting a ticket every day because there is no sticker on their car.
SO, WWYD? Leave it alone and assume the car will eventually disappear? Call the town so that the car gets at least ticketed or they can look into it?
It bugs me every day when I see that car there and have no idea where it came from and that it's been untouched for almost 2 weeks now.

Does it have plates? Ask the cops to run the plates and see if it's registered.

... i'll never forget the story of a woman who went missing and her car sat in a weird spot and went unreported for days until someone finally reported it and they found her body in the trunk 
eta: i'm not saying there's a dead body in front of your house  just report it! you never know why it could be there!

I would call the police and report it. That happened across the street from my parents' house and the car wound up being stolen. Someone just dumped it there when they were done using it.

OK... I called and reported the car to the police. They took the car information down and were going to send an officer over to check it out.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that if it belonged to anyone on my street, they would know that you can't park a car on the street without moving it if you don't have a sticker.

Call and report it. You never know and better safe then sorry.
About 8 years ago I was ready to walk out of my house to work. Then I looked in my driveway and there was a random car parked behind me (yes, in my driveway) with no one in it. So I couldn't leave and we called the cops. Turns out the car was stolen!
Although it wasn't THAT much of a surprise b/c of the area I live in but to park in someone's driveway? Really?

I assume they ran the plates. It's actually been there about 2 weeks. I was saying that if it is still there next week I will call again... because at that point it will be 3 weeks.
I gave the police the plate number and they came out and gave it a ticket. So there must not have been anything out of the ordinary when they ran the plate.
I actually talked to our neighbor across the street who said they don't recognize the car either.

No, but we are a few blocks away from the train station. I can't figure it out. In the 4 years that we have lived here, I have never seen this car before. The mystery continues.

this reminds me of when I took myt son to payless on route 25 years go-a car was left there n the cops popped the trunk n that is what is was! ugh.

OK...I really don't mean to sound snotty...but you don't own the street or curb and it isn't parked directly in front of your house and you didn't mention its taking up space for your vehicle...so let them deal w/it it and they will remove it according to their regulations.

Well, when the car moves, I'll let you know! Ever since I posted this all I can wonder is if there is a body in the trunk when I go by the car or look at it!
The ticket they got is now buried under the snow we got today so they won't see it!
And if it's still there next Thursday, I'll be calling the police again! I can't imagine leaving my car in 1 spot and not touching it for 2 weeks!

We had a similar situation in front of our house....turns out that someone must have had a joyride with it and then left it there. Since my husband is a cop, he called someone and they towed it away, eventually

Well I'm glad you don't mean to sound snotty  ... the car is partially in front of my house. I am perfectly aware that I do not own the street OR the curb.
My concern is that this is a street that nobody normally parks on. There has been a car parked on the street that none of the neighbor's recognize for 2 weeks now. The car has not been touched or moved in that time. After speaking with some of my neighbors, we found out that we are all just assuming that the car belongs to the other person!
So now we start to wonder if there is something wrong. If the car is from the neighborhood on a different street, I'm not sure why they aren't just parking on their own street. This isn't like when we used to live in Queens and parking on the streets was a hot commodity.
And yes, I do understand that I asked for opinions. I respect that your opinion is that you would not do anything.

being that it sounds fishy and you just never know the situation,.... i would call and report it. idk why but my mind went straight to thinking that it could have something to do with a crime... like stolen vehicle, etc?
