It's so interesting to hear how LI and NJ are different from NYC.
What's the chances that the car belongs to a friend or family member to one of the other residents on the block and they're away for the Holidays?
However, it's a great idea that you called the police. There's always the chance that the owner may have passed away.

We had something simlar happen in our previous house. Car parked in front of our house ( we lived around the block fromt he train so this always happened) but it was there for days and the back of the car slightly blocked our driveway (we lived in queens at the time so our driveways were very narrow).
We called and the ticketed it a few times, then after 2 weeks the towed it.

You know, that was exactly the first thing that I was thinking. That it was a car belonging to a friend or relative of a neighbor. The car showed up around Christmas Eve... I figured it was there for the holidays. Then the blizzard came and nobody ever came out to dig the car out. I guess all the snow makes it easier for me to realize that the car has not been touched. Still, has not been touched. The snow has been melting away slowly, but the car has not moved.
I thought maybe the car would be gone after New Years. Nothing. We are now a week past the New Year and still has not been touched and it's been there for 2 weeks.
The best way I can describe it is that normally, there are absolutely NO cars parked on our street. If there are, they are cars that we recognize as one of the neighbors cars. If we don't recognize a car, it's usually gone within a day or 2 if they are visiting a neighbor.
That's why this car seems so out of the ordinary. Imagine that there are about 6 houses that the car is within relative proximity to. None of us know who the car belongs to. If it is for someone down the block, why not park in front of their house since there are no cars parked on our street at all?
If I still lived in Queens, I probably wouldn't think twice. But I guess the suburbs of NJ provide the perfect recipe to turn me into a meddling snoop!

If it were NYC I wouldn't think twice about it because people do leave their cars for days so they don't have to find parking.
In the suburbs, I would think its strange that a car was parked in front of someones house for that long untouched. I would wonder if the car was stolen or if someone ditched the car there for some bad reason.
I would keep calling every few days if it was still not moved.
