You assume wrong, it was meant for Katareen. And I see no reason using that rational that getting divorced should be different, in that case return ALL the wedding money. And FWIW with everyone so concerned about etiquette when someones life has just fallen apart, Showers are given in honor of the bride ( Traditionally and etiquette is traditional) That means you are giving the gift to the bride, not the couple. Wanting your gift back when a wedding is called off is as petty as it gets. But Karma is a b@tch.
Petty as it gets is right! That's one way to shorten the list for when you DO get married lol

Re: wwyd? wedding is seriously postponed
Wow, I'm shocked that anyone would even want their gift back. I would never ask for a gift back, or expect it back. I mean, what are YOU going to do with something monogrammed or personalized in some way? So stupid.

Re: wwyd? wedding is seriously postponed
I would not want the gift back. If the bride does get married in the future I wouldn't get her another shower gift though. Why are there conditions attached? What happens if someone gets divorced a few months after marriage, are they supposed to give the wedding and shower gifts back?
If I were the bride I would try to return the gifts but it might take a while.

Yeah - what is your point? I think every one on here knows the "proper" thing to do. Honestly all of you that want your gift back should go thru a really difficult time where etiquette might dictate one thing but you are too worried about not jumping off a bridge to give a damn.
If this isn't a first world problem, I don't know what is. You should definitely worry about getting your blender back!

Re: wwyd? wedding is seriously postponed
I think anything sentimental should be returned ( like if a family member gave you a "something old" for the wedding)

Re: wwyd? wedding is seriously postponed
Tell them don't worry about it.. I mean why would you want the gift back? Chances are it's something I don't need/want and now I'm stuck with trying to get rid of it or go return it

My point is that this is what etiquette says to do, which has been brought up several times in the post. I gave no opinion as to the situation.
I could not care less about a gift I gave and probably would forget what I gave anyway. That's if I even went to the shower, I usually decline.

Re: wwyd? wedding is seriously postponed
I'd feel so bad for them that it wouldn't even cross my mind that they should give a gift back.
