The smart, caring, and unselfish person would not park in stork parking, leave their item with the cashier until they pulled their car up front, and then "shlepped" the item to their car. See? It's easy! I do it ALLLLL the time if I have something that I can't carry. I am in pretty good physical shape and I still park as far away as possible when I go shopping. Not only that, but I am a snot and I do not like parking next to people if I can avoid some dings and scratches.
While parking in the fire lane no doubt. All about YOooOOooooOUuuuUUUu.......... But whatever makes your day easier......

maybe you should move to another area...

It's COMMON COURTESY and DECENCY. That's what it comes down to.
Who gives a damn if you have no help? Everyone's got a sob story.
It's just disgusting really.
I do 70 on the Southern State. I lie. However something as SIMPLE as NOT parking in a spot clearly marked for someone else - it's a no-brainer. Just because I'm not perfect doesn't mean I'm a discourteous asss in all the other areas of my life.
It's not like I go home and say to myself - well I blasted the speed limit on the SS so I might as well be a schmuck and park in stork parking.
I really can't believe that you even admit to doing it. Like you're proud.
Same with low emissions parking at the outlets - the amount of SUVs and Hummers I see - it's mind-boggling.
ITA.
However, to Snickers- I wouldn't begrudge you for parking in the stork parking when you have your DD with you and a large package to return/carry. I think the courtesy should extend to mothers with small children.
I wouldn't even have an issue if it were an elderly person.
It's the men/teens/young people who are totally able bodies and able to walk a few extra feet who bug me.
For the record- I haven't used one of those spots yet.

I feel the same way... I actually have no problem with snickers parking there occasionally ESPECIALLY since she has a little one... It's just her "I'm going to do what's right for me & me only attitude" and justifications for it that I took issue with.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...
i think i saw these spots at target possibly. i would never park in either spot, but honestly, i don't know that i agree with special family spots. maybe it's b/c i don't have kids and can't truly understand why these are necessary. i understand the ones for PG's but if you have kids, i guess i just don't see why you need a special spot. please don't flame me, i just think if "family spots" are allowed, then how about "elderly spots" too? not all elderly are eligible for a handicap permit. i'd rather see special spots for the elderly than for families. sorrry

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...
Personally, I think that if a store designates spots for a certain group, whether it is Pregnant women, women with children, individuals with a disability, customers strictly there for take-out, or men in monkey costumes, the rules should be followed...
It is THEIR parking lot, THEIR decision...regardless of how you feel about the decision, I feel if you're going to that store, respect the rules/courtesies they've set out...

Wow...somebody will ALWAYS find a scapegoat on this site! And its usually the SAME people ALL the time!
ETA: I've never parked in those spots since in NYC and the boroughs its considered LUCKY to find a spot anywhere, but jeesh if you park in the stork spot ONCE in a while, whats the biggie...now a teenager parking in a handicapped spot and not giving 2 $hits is a different story.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...
I think those spots are awesome for when you are 8 + months pregnant and can barely walk because of hip pain and the sheer size of you...
And then when you actually have the baby in the stroller and it's 20 degrees out and you have to race to the store to get the baby warm!

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...
Alright.. i'm going to admit it. After seeing how Snickers was completely attacked by everyone on here previously i was going to keep my mouth shut.. but i think she at least deserves to know that there are some of us out there that aren't as perfect as we all claim to be. And it has nothing to do with decency.
I've parked in one of those spots before, and at the time I remember thinking 'just because you have kids with you, you get a better spot? - how unfair' As other posters said.. why not a spot for the elderly, why not for someone on crutches, why not for someone who just doesn't feel well that day? Of course the store is entitled to do what they want with their store parking, but at what point does it become all designated parking for people with some kind of 'need'. I happen to think at BRU however, it does sort of makes sense because a lot of the clientele would be pregnant, or have small kids with them.
Granted, i don't have kids and don't know how much of a pain it can be shopping with them, nor am i pregnant. So, when my time comes, I may be proven wrong and become just as indignant as some of you have been on this thread. I'm not against the idea of the spots per se either.
And before everyone starts attacking me about being decent and courteous - don't. I am the first person to offer a person on the subway my seat, whether they're elderly, pregnant or handicapped in any way and go out of my way to help people in many situations. But that's been when there is an actual person there.. not the potential for a person. Do any of you ever actually NOT sit in the subway or bus seats designated for elderly people that are near the door? I'm sure we all sit there.. but if someone were to get on that needed it, we'd get up to offer it. You can't make the comparison between taking a parking spot when there's no one waiting for it, and not offering a seat to someone who is standing in front of you.
If there was a pregnant woman, or a car with a woman with kids who was waiting to take that spot, i most certainly would NOT take it from her. But i think to leave the spots empty for some potential pregnant customer or potential car with kids in it is unfair to anyone else in a car.
And i'll also admit that after reading this thread, i will think twice now about parking in one of those spots - only because i don't want to come back and have spit on my windshield or my car keyed by someone who doesn't like my choice

I was on crutches for 8 weeks once and had to work and walk because there was no "crutch" parking. With a cast up to my knee (it was my left in my defense bc I think its illegal to drive if its your right foot) I still had to walk and as a matter of fact, fell in the parking lot one day when it was raining.
That being said, I don't go out of my way to park in these spots to be spiteful but I have gone to a store like Stop and Shop where half the lot is reserved for "expectant mothers" or "mothers with children" am I less entitled to food shop because I haven't had a child? Come on.
And I give up my seat on the subway constantly.
So I'm not perfect either!
