Well I have mixed feeling about this..You can never tell who is a pervert or not..I mean there are Doctors who are Pervs and priests....so you NEVER know...But what I think should be done is having a male scan a male and a woman scan a woman....maybe IDK??? LOL!!

Ok so I know that there will be some ppl complaining that I should post this on Travel but I really want to get everyone's opinion. With the holidays fast approaching there has been a lot more talk about these full body scanners & body pat downs at the airports. I would love to get everyone's opinion on this, not trying to spark a debate... Just opinions.
I personally feel that flying is a privilege and not a right so we should need to comply with what the airport regulations are or don't fly. I also feel that this is put in place for our security which I am completely happy with. I also always hate when people complain about the lines at airport security too... Please! I don't like to wait either but I get there early and don't mind waiting if it is going to keep me safe in the air. I am fine w/anything that is going to keep me safe. ITA

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
I have no problem with it especially when it comes to my safety.
I went through one in Arizona and they explained that the people actually scanning the photos were at an off-site location and your private parts are blurred out.
Now I dont know if I believe that or not but the woman walking me though did have to wait for a radio call giving her the "ok" to let me proceed.
Either way, it was painless and if its for my safety and the safety of others, Im ok with it.

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
I know a lot of people believe that this is the government trying to take more of our rights and that we already have enough safety measures. Clearly we do not have enough considering the underwear bomber from last year. Just sayin.

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
I'm torn - don't know how much radiation this thing gives off and how it will affect my body, especially since I travel a lot. At the dentist or doctor, at least we get shielded.
I'm not a fan of the new touchy-feely pat downs either. I don't like being touched and these just seem so invasive - hands in the waistbands, in collars.
Like I said, I'm torn. I like to travel, but this has become an invasive hassel.
I kind of feel like the terrorists have won this one.

I hate them but will comply I've seen the images on tv and you can barely make out that its a person on most of them.
I did not know that not complying was an option...

As someone who does not want to blow up in midair and land herself on the Lost island, I'm absolutely fine with those scanners.

i really don't get what the big deal is... it's not like they're looking at a naked photo of you. it's not that detailed that they can see everything about your body!

I would never let some random joe at the airport pat down my children.
I would go through scanner...so would they. I don't think I would allow a pat down though.
If the TSA determines a pat down is necessary, you don't have a choice unless you are willing walk out of the airport.
I wonder if there is a choice in who you would allow to touch your child? just read, children 12 and under are exempt from pat downs
I would have a huge issue with this too.
We teach our kids that their bodies are private, that no one can touch them in places and then some stranger pats them down? Thank goodness they are exempt.
As for everything else-I don't like it, they don't make me feel safer, the terrorists will find a way around this too but I would comply to get on with my trip.

Actually, that is exactly what the controversy is about. There are plenty of people that say you can in fact see the complete detailed image of a naked body and all the TSA is doing is denying it.
What I want to know is if the images truly are as blury and nondescript as TSA is saying, why do they have the person looking at it in another room so they don't actually see the person face-to-face to "avoid embarrasment" (direct quote from TSA)?????

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
I'd have to read up more on the safety of the scanners. I would have a serious problem letting my child go through them - but I'd also have a serious problem with someone patting down my child.
I'm assuming these are for people that beep going through the regular metal scanner?? if so, I'd be sure I don't set off an alarm.

probably because some people are really insecure with their bodies, and some people would try to use that a an excuse not to go through it.
this is what they see....
personally, i think some of the clothing people wear today shows more than this does

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
I would personally opt for same sex a pat down in private. I really, really don't want to go through something a scanner that gives of radiation, and most important part is that I cannot have some random guy viewing my contraband image. If not medically necessary, no other person need to see my junk
Eta: I also think children under a certain age and exempt from the patdown. I wouldn't want anyone touching my child.

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
First the lied and said pictures couldn't be saved and shared, now we know that is false
Then they said radiation levels are low, now we know they understared levels.
I travel 20+ times a year, I have zero faith in the government to be honest about these machines.
Israel has been dealing with terrorist a lot longer than we have and they do fine without body scanners and pat downs. Maybe its because they actually hire college grads who are trained by the military and fired on the spot if they miss something versus what the TSA hires.

What's more important - your safety and LIFE or one minute of your dignity?
Scan away, TSA. Scan away.
I don't think they need to be mutually exclusive. X-raying the bags and metal detectors should cover most weapons. They could use dogs trained to locate explosives instead of treating law abiding citizens like criminals.
They are doing this because criminals are finding new things to dentonate bombs, etc. that people can hold on the human body. People swallow things and throw it back up. Criminals are much faster when it comes to us creating the technology to detect this stuff.
I'm for it. I've been patted down many many times and I have no problem with it. I do not feel violated. I have nothing to hide.

a friend of the family works for the tsa and told me exactly what it's like:
the image i posted is the one they see for everyone going through the scanner.
the second image in your post is what they can enhance to if you have something hiding in a strange place... like the gun in her asss crack
there are other countries (like thailand) that use those more enhanced images on everyone... not just suspcious people.

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?
well that is it - hire professionals, then people will complain about how much the agents are making and their lovely benefit packages. The American public can't have it both ways. If you want to be safe then you need to pay for the individuals with correct training, experience, etc.
