I'd rather have everyone see my body than get blown up in mid-air ! So to be clear, I'm fine with it.

I'm for it. I've been patted down many many times and I have no problem with it. I do not feel violated. I have nothing to hide.

What's more important - your safety and LIFE or one minute of your dignity?

Scan away, TSA. Scan away.

I don't think they need to be mutually exclusive. X-raying the bags and metal detectors should cover most weapons. They could use dogs trained to locate explosives instead of treating law abiding citizens like criminals.

They are doing this because criminals are finding new things to dentonate bombs, etc. that people can hold on the human body. People swallow things and throw it back up. Criminals are much faster when it comes to us creating the technology to detect this stuff.

I'm for it. I've been patted down many many times and I have no problem with it. I do not feel violated. I have nothing to hide.

Before the new pat down procedures were in place I had also been subject to a pat down. However, from everything I have read, this is nothing like what we are used to. NO more back of the hand - this is a FULL ON search.

well that is it - hire professionals, then people will complain about how much the agents are making and their lovely benefit packages. The American public can't have it both ways. If you want to be safe then you need to pay for the individuals with correct training, experience, etc.

I doubt people would complain if they acted professionally and had the same track record as the agents in Israel - 8 years with no security breeches and people are through security in under 20 minutes without being groped or taking off shoes.

People complain now because we have people barely qualified to work at McDonalds being overpaid for what little service they provide.

A private firm would do a better job than the government and their weak hiring standards.

I'm sure people who have been sexually abused love the new system.

I also read about a breast cancer survivor being told to remove her prosthetic breat - what a way to treat a survivor.

Changes will come when the airlines start seeing decling revenues from this.

All the private plane firms are already running ads touting the benefits of fractional ownership to avoid this. They are targeting affluent Americans but also businesses which is a crucial market for the airlines.

I agree but we do live in a very high profile country. If you are a terririst and want to send a message, you are certainly going after the US, not Isreal.

We are a high profile country that is sending the message to the terrorists of the world that we are afraid and that we can't protect our citizens and their freedom at the same time.

The scanners are a virtual strip search - it's not going to see something someone swallowed. The pat downs are agressive - not a quick down your sides along your arms/leg search - they are open handed searches including your private areas.

Things that can be used as detonators - cell phones and computers are still permitted through security. And I am sure if someone was determined, they could purchase items inside the airport beyond security that could be used or fashioned into weapons of some sort.

I also wonder, why just focus on planes? There is no security in Penn Station to get on Amtrak which sits under MSG. You see the military personnel there once in a while but but it's passive. Every once in a while there are cops stationed in the subways to search bags. And every once in a greater while I see them searching a bag.

Re: Airport Full Body Scanners... What do you think?

I am NOT in favor of them the way this is being handled.

I do care who sees me naked. And if someone is going to enjoy the show, you are sure dawn right I want a discount of my ticket. I am not giving a show for free. For all I know the "random" guy seeing me naked could be a freaking client of mine or a neighbor. A guy who works in an airport can see me naked. Just like that!

From what I am understanding this is not just same sex people watching those pics. I actually would be OK with same sex doing the scan. So we have some random guys looking at women' naked body in the name of security. I am sure a bunch of guys are going to want those jobs. Like WTH???? I don't know this guy from nowhere. What's next strip with cavity search for all passengers because "better safe than sorry"?

I do have my limits. And if it is going to come down to that, then no I will not be flying.

I don't want my DS to be "seen" naked. What about HIS privacy?

As far as the pat down going into bras and underwear. You get you I will be on the news because nobody goes in there but my DH and slaps will fly. I probably will be arrested.

I don't really have a problem complying with searches if they are going to make us safer, the problem is that I don't think they are. I think they are applied so inconsistently, and by workers that are not properly trained or skilled, that we are not really as safe as they would like us to think these procedures are making us.

Not to mention they still haven't solved the problem of searching all the cargo properly.

I agree that if someone is determined enough that they could make it happen anyway. However, I think this is just one more deterrent which will hopefully help a bit. Might be a bad example but we have laws in place that prohibit drinking and driving, does that mean that no one will drink and drive... Of course not but we need to have those laws in place as a deterrent. Just because its not 100% going to catch everyone doesn't mean that we shouldn't do it.

I also agree with you that we need security measures in other areas too, like Penn.

Love all of these comments. I was afraid this was going to turn into a heated debate but Im glad everyone is keeping it pretty clean.

I wonder how far is too far? So many people are fine with this, but what is their limit? How much are people willing to hand over in the name of security? And if/when something else happens, then what?

I am willing to bet that terrorists have or will work their way around this obstacle if that is their goal. Meanwhile, people guilty of travelling for business & pleasure are being subjected to these new procedures and don't need to be deterred from anything since they are simply trying to get where they are going.

I don't understand why they don't hand search the bags. That you can bring matches but not a lighter through security is completely ridiclous. The reason being matches are harder to find. Search the bags by hand, that would solve that. Limit what people can carry on to the plane - one personal bag per person to speed up the search. So what if someone has to pay an extra $25 to check a bag or spend time at the carousel? It's all for safety.

I just think its a damned if you don't, damned if you do Catch 22.

If they don't take these precautions and something DOES happen, people will be up in arms that we didn't have enough security.

If we do have the precautions, we are saying it is a violation of our rights, etc.

For anyone who is not in favor of scanning, what are your proposals?

How would you feel if someone got through security, and a full body scan would have prevented it?

I'm torn - don't know how much radiation this thing gives off and how it will affect my body, especially since I travel a lot. At the dentist or doctor, at least we get shielded.

I'm not a fan of the new touchy-feely pat downs either. I don't like being touched and these just seem so invasive - hands in the waistbands, in collars.

Like I said, I'm torn. I like to travel, but this has become an invasive hassel.

I kind of feel like the terrorists have won this one.

Same here, I've already gone thru this machine 50 times. I can't believe people haven't yet! I guess that shows how much I travel by air compared to the norm...

Also, if our private parts are blurred out, how does that make me any safer? Couldn't I just have a bomb in my undies, similar to how the guy did last year?

And, FYI I got my (.)(.) felt on the way into the Jets game yesterday...I thought the pat down was kinda normal at this point...but who knows, maybe that lady just liked me Chat Icon

I just started another thread, but the question I have is this . . . if Isreal doesn't use the scanners and doesn't have terrorist attacks, why does the US need them?

But I do I understand where people are coming from. Where do you draw the line? Where will it end? I don't know...when will the terrorists stop trying to blow everything up? Hand search all bags.

If they are going to limit things like liquids, limit them. The 3oz rule is incredibly arbitrary.

Install those puff machines in all the terminals that detects explosive material instead of these high tech body scanners. I think that should be more of a concern then what a person can hide in some orifice of their body. Of course in addition to the metal detectors not instead of them which was my experience.

Use dogs that are trained to detect explosive materials.

I agree with this. I am not sure I understand the obsession with what a person can hide on their body as opposed to what they could store in a suitcase or carryon.

1 month after 9-11 I flew home and threw my razor in the front pocket of my messenger bag. Not a single security guard or scanning machine picked up on it. I was an innocent college student, but what if I wasn't? And what if it was something worse than a razor?
