Yesterday a woman left her two toddlers in convertible car seats with the car running and went into 7-11. I was jealous I didn't have enough guts to do that while carrying a 5 month old with 2 toddlers in tow. Lol.
Also, while it's extremely rare. Carbon monoxide can build up in a running car with no snow on the ground. It would have to be a malfunctioning ac in the car. But still possible. Just saying, not that I worry about that at all.
That woman broke the law. Children under age 8 are not allowed to be left in a car unsupervised. Anyone age 12 or above can supervise...
She didnt break the law -- there was a 13 year old in the car watching the children.

No kidding did u not see me quote the person who said "yesterday a woman left her two toddlers in convertible car seats with the car running and went into 7-11." That is against the law, 2 todllers, alone in running car, while parent is inside a store...

Actually the law is that you can't do this in EXTREME conditions, like heat or cold. And for 3 minutes to grab a dozen eggs does not create a significant risk to their health and safety.
My goodness! People in general need to get a grip.

Sad part is that people are calling CPS for dumb sh!t like this, wasting resources when there are kids in real danger.
People should only all CPS when it is a real threat or DANGER. Not for the 1 millionth chance a kid could get hurt.

I don't see anything indicating that this is the law in NY. I see a variety of bills that have been introduced and passed by the state senate, but nothing that has been signed into law by the Governor.
You could be arrested for child endangerment or child neglect, but that would depend on the responding police officer, i.e., whether a reasonable human being responds or not, as there is currently no bright-line rule in NY, and the Office of Children and Family Services says it's a fact based decision which depends on the child's maturity and the circumstances.

Re: Children left in car..curious of your thoughts
I agree, I would probably never do that. I say probably because you just never know a person's or YOUR future circumstance.
However, I think the point is, nobody should go up to a stranger in a store and question or comment on their parenting skills. Whether it be about you buying formula instead of breast feeding, leaving kids in a car, drinking a huge latte while pregnant, whatever.
It's just NOT going to go well. People will automatically get defensive, they won't change their ways, and you will look very sanctimonious. MYOB

That's not what laws like that are for.
And it IS a waste of time and precious resources to report parents just so, what, WE can feel like better parents? To teach complete strangers who we know nothing about a lesson that could result in long term consequences to that entire family? Yeah, I definitely think people like this need to get a grip. IMO of course.

I guess it makes people feel morally superior. They sleep better at night knowing they are a MUCH better parent than the one they reported.

Wow. 4 years old is young. But, I agree that each parent should make their own parenting decisions - even if I don't agree with it or think it is wrong. Each parent has to live with the consequences of their own decision.
It scares me that people can call CPS for just about any reason they see fit and a parent can actually be investigated, even if I'm just yelling at my kid in a store.

I think the thread you linked and what OP said are two different situations. The thread you linked was just a 4 year old.
What OP said was that there was an older kid in the car (I’m guessing 13 depending on the law that he was in the front seat).
I just don’t think you can compare the two situations.

No, over and over people have said MYOB regardless of the ages. Read all the posts and just because the kid was in the front seat doesn't mean he was 13. We have kindergartners riding in the front seat these days. And anyone can say their kid is any age they want. Doesn't mean it's true ;)

He was 13, OP confront the mom. And the stories are two different ones - apples to oranges. I actually pointed out in that thread that I had left my kid in the car by himself at a young age.
Regardless I still wouldn't confront a parent and that was the point. And she was doing nothing wrong. People need to mind their business unless there is a real danger and a confrontation will make an impact. As Nell said, confronting a parent isnt going to make them say omg you are so right thanks goodness you pointed out what I purposely did. My hero, you're an angel.
ETA: why would the mom have to lie even of he was 10 its not a big deal? She had nothing to prove to a perfect stranger who was stalking her car.

This is the crux of it. Not whether leaving the kids alone was right or wrong, but saying something to the mom.
I’m a psycho about car seat safety. I would never go up to a mom and say “why, that child appears to be 23 months old. You know she should be rear facing.”
