Re: Delaying the MMR shot
Posted by maymama
i think everyone should make up their own mind but when my child's health is compromised because someone else decides that they will not vaccinate - its a hard pill to swollow. When that same person says they refuse to vaccinate because fetal cells were used to study and create the vaccine, and then innocent children get sick and die ... well, i don't see the justice in that either.
nothing in life is fair. i guess we just all agree to disagree.
Exactly... this isn't "we need to drop this, everyone needs to make their own decisions and do what's right for their family" like BF vs. FF, cloth vs. disposable diapers... this is your choices are affecting my family so of course people get fired up.
Thanks for agreeing, MayMama

To address this point, as someone who does delay vaccines--
If anyone thinks my decision to delay was selfish, I certainly am fine with that perception. As a mother, my #1 responsibility is the health and safety of MY child. Not yours. It's one thing if you truly believe there are no risks to vaccinations. However, if I have a valid concern about a particular vaccine, I have NO intention of risking my child's well-being and possibly causing permanent damage for the sake of "the greater good".
Totally agree with you!!! "As a mother, my #1 responsibility is the health and safety of MY child. Not yours."

Re: Delaying the MMR shot
I wasn't going to even post on this thread but, this really angered me. Not to mention it is completely inaccurate on so many levels but, I won't even go into that. My decision to delay my children's shots especially the MMR is 10000000% for THEIR health and safety. You worry about your child and I will worry about mine. My DD recently had 107 fever from the prevnar shot. Try and tell me that the risks from these shots are not real? How ridiculous you sound. READ THE PRODUCT INSERT. I could go on and on but, it's not worth it. Bottom line - My child MY choice.

This is very condescending and unnecessary, in my opinion. Everyone does what they think is beast for their children. People aren't going to vax their kids on the basis of protecting your kids.

Delaying the MMR shot
DS will get the MMR at his next checkup- his 18 month visit. We are doing it now because we want to put him in a one day a week toddler drop off program and the nursery school requires it. I am nervous about it because of the side effects, but I personally believe that the MMR does not cause autism.

Re: Delaying the MMR shot
DD just had hers done just shy of 2 weeks ago. She is 16 months. She got a fever 8 days later for 3 days and developed a rash 10 days later which we are dealing with now. The rash is awful looking, but it doesn't bother her. I'm hoping it clears up soon.
As far as her being "off", I'm keeping a close eye, but I haven't noticed any difference in behavior. She's also finally cutting her top 2 teeth so any difference can be due to that.
Ultimately I think someone should do what they are comfortable with, if you want to delay, then delay. I don't think delaying it for my DD would have made a difference. My ped is very firm about getting vax on schedule. I did put off the MMR until her latest well check. He wanted it done at 13 months with the varicella but I declined and just did the varicella.
I'm not going to lie, I was a nervous wreck getting the MMR done, not bc I believe it causes autism, bc I don't think it does. I was just nervous about the side effects, which we are dealing with now. However, I feel that the viruses are worse than the side effects to the vaccines.

Re: Delaying the MMR shot
We did not delay for DS#1&2, but we will for DD. B/c of my son's illness, none of us can have live viruses, so we are delaying all live viruses (even DS#2 Kindergarten boosters) until DS#1's doctor gives us the go ahead.

Thanks That was the impression I got from what she wrote as well but, I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume maybe that isn't what she meant because frankly it doesn't make sense.
