The drinking while TOT is odd to me - just because its against the law to have open containers. So I wouldn't do that.
so is jay walking
No cop is going to stop a pack of parents holding Solo cups while TOT'ing with their kids. I would hope they have bigger fish to fry than a mom drinking a margarita while watching her kids TOT.

Do you drink at kid events/parties?
No but it's because I'm not much of a drinker. I'd probably have a drink or 2 if DH was with me and I was in the mood for one.

Heres Halloween a couple years ago. Badass, lawbreaker DH, toting the beers around in the stroller, all the while holding a solo cup. And yes, I prob jaywalked after taking the pic. This thread cracks me up.

We had a few drinks while TOT'ing this year. It was a Saturday, we had good friends with us and wanted to have a few drinks. We certainly weren't wasted, we were all watching our children, not sure what the big deal is. It's not like we were tossing our beer bottle in to the street while we walked.

I guess, at least for me, I think walking around with the kids Toting is, basically, that, toting. I LOVE my drinks, don't get me wrong, but why does everything now have to include drinking?
It seems that more people turn to drinking and prescription meds now after having kids. I personally hate those quotes with having to take xanax after a day with the kids (and personally have known people who have said and done that).

Hmmm, yeah not even close. Two totally different things, Rx drugs vs a couple of Coronas. I'm not all Xanax'ed out and looped up with my daughter. A few beers while walking the neighborhood is child's play compared to pill popping. I'd rather tie a small buzz on, while having fun and roaming the neighborhood with our friends, than being laid out on the couch, zoned out, " mommys just tired", yeah right. I agree though. Kids are tough, and it's nice to let off steam and relax, but you're not gonna find me taking meds recreationally to deal. I've seen it. It's sad.

Re: Do you drink at kid events/parties?
Drinking while ToTing is popular in my neighborhood. I can definitely see the appeal. I don't think it's a big deal to drink in front of my kids, but it doesn't happen that often. I'm not a big drinker, but will have a drink at a family or friends party and will order drinks at certain restaurants when we're out with the kids.

Yeah apples and oranges IMO I don't even like to take meds when I need them. I crawled around the floor in excruciating pain in the throws of a kidney stone attack because I didn't like the way the Vicodins made me feel. And that was when I was in EXTREME pain So as much as I like my wine, and cocktails, I don't think one is anywhere near the same as the other

Do you drink at kid events/parties?
We have drinks at every party we through. Including kids. This year while TOT we brought a few. Almost every house we went to the owners were sitting outside having a cocktail or wine.

My point is that it seems that many more parents "deal" with the stresses of parenting now with drinks and meds.

I'm inclined to think people who do this were doing this before kids with any life stressors, there is a difference bw having a cocktail at a party and abusing drugs and alcohol to deal w life or kids it whatever

Having a beer or glass of wine has nothing to do with "dealing with the stress of parenting".
I do not think most of us are saying "Jesus I need a drink in order to go ToTing". I grew up in house where there is always wine. Its a daily part of my life. No ones a drunk or has to have it...just a way of life.
And I just got back from overseas.....we do not drink half as much as other countries!!!!

It's been like that for years People were boozing it up and popping pills just as much 40 years ago as now- it just wasn't as publicized

Do you drink at kid events/parties?
not judging, just stating what I do to answer the OP question: Nope, never if I'm driving because even if I'm not drunk or buzzed I wouldn't get behind the wheel ever. Kids or no kids. Now, if DH is driving, I will drink. I'm not going to get wasted but I'll have a glass of wine or two.

That's just ridiculous.
It's quite a leap to take from an ADULT enjoying a few drinks socially, whether kids or there or not, to regularly NEEDING alcohol and pills to "get through the stresses of parenting" on a day to day basis. I mean really though??? That's just a reach, I'm sorry.

Re: Do you drink at kid events/parties?
As an aside, why is it a big deal anyway if your kids see you drink? I'm not talking about getting sloppy drunk which is inappropriate but having casual drinks at parties or with friends.............what's the big deal? My kids think nothing of it. My DD, now 7, has asked about beer and wine when she see us drinking it and we just tell her there are some drinks that are for grown-ups and one day she can try them. She gets it.
I don't know why you would feel the need to never let your kid see you drink, for what purpose? If anything, drinking responsibly in front of them teaches a good lesson. My DD already knows (from a young age) that if you drink, you NEVER drive. If we're out and she sees DH having wine, she knows Mommy drives home.

Is it bad my son's first birthday party was an Oktoberfest theme?
We we drink in front of DS (who is still young) but we drink in front of our nieces who are older and know it is for adults only

If they are offering it, I'm drinking it!!! If I go to kids in shape or something like that where there's no alcohol It's not as if I'm bringing a flask because I need alcohol to be around kids...

Yes, I drink responsibly in front of my kids. I don't want them growing up thinking alcohol is taboo. I am teaching them that they too, when of age, can have a drink and have a good time without the excess....

I just hosted a Halloween party for children/adults and provided alcohol. All of the parents drank and i really didnt see the big deal about it. I think its important to show children how to behave properly and responsibly.
