Re: Early Intervention....
Its great that you're evaluating this early. Early intervention (and in your case reallly early) is absolutely the key to overcoming delays. My 2 year old has been receiving several services for the past year. His symptoms sounded very much like your DS's. He's made so much progress and the therapists are absolutely wonderful. He really enjoys therapy as much as he does little gym or mommy and me. EI has been a blessing. That being siad, I know exactly how hard and scary it is to start the process. Please feel free to FM me -- I have a ton of info.

Re: Early Intervention....
First of all...hugs to ya! Get the EI ball rolling, all babies develop differently, but I think it will help our peace of mind to get some external help! Good Luck!

Re: Early Intervention....
I can totally relate Diane! I just had Steven tested for speech, at 18 months the only decipherable word was dada, the rest is his own babble language. He was denied services although they said there was some "language delays". I am in the process of trying to get services through my ins.
And the head side to side thing, DS used to do that and it really freaked me out but dr said it was nothing to be concerned about.

Re: Early Intervention....
I'm the poster child for early intervention I had delays all over the place, with walking, talking, reading, etc. My mom fought tooth and nail with our school district to get me early intervention services, which she did, and I'd like to say, as a result, I'm a very successful, well-adjusted, happy individual, so never fear, even IF your son does have some developmental delays, if he receives the services he needs right away, he'll be ok. In fact, I credit my success to all those years of services which helped me go above and beyond my peers.

Re: Early Intervention....
I am a speech therapist who does early intervention and I have family members who I recommended go and get tested, both received services. It sounds like you would have a whole "core evaluation" done that would look at overall development- physical development, cognitive, social, and language. Its never too early to check on your child's development- I started treating a girl who was only 5 months old for feeding issues. I would definitely have your son evaluated-it will not hurt him. Most of the tests at this age involve cause and effect type play and rating scales that the evaluator would go over with you to get the most accurate picture of your son, you know him the best. Fm me with any questions.
