I always do. My DD's bday is in February so the weather doesn't always cooperate but even if we just stay home it's nice to have the day with her.

Re: FTWM-Do you take off of work for your LO birthday?

For her first birthday, I took off because we were having her party at our house the next day and I had a lot to do. She spend part of the day at my MIL's house though, so that we could get stuff done.

Her 2nd birthday is on a Saturday, and her 3rd birthday will be on a Sunday. By the time we get to her 4th bday, she will be in full-time preK, and I will probably send her to school to celebrate with her friends.

So no, I guess other than her 1st birthday, I won't be taking off.

I did for his first but we were having people over that evening so I had things to do, For his 2nd it was a Sat so I didn't need to. But I do not plan on taking off. He will be in daycare for most years coming up and then school.

I take a half of a day. That way I can get home early and we can do something special like go to the park and have ice cream for dinner :)

I only had one of my DC's birthdays--her first--as a FTWM, and no, I didn't. It was especially difficult to take off because I was a teacher and her birthday is September 7th!

Otherwise, I probably still would not...I've got three kids, I'm sure I'd need to save my days for illness. Also, when they're of school age, I wouldn't let them take off of school...

DH and I usually take off that week and we do some fun things with them. Plus it gives us time to plan for their party.

I planned to leave work a couple hours early this year for his first bday, bring cupcakes to day care at like 3pm and then bring him home early. He woke with a 103.5 temp, so instead I took a sick day and we went to the dr and relaxed at home. Also a February bday.... so not much we were gonna do anyway.
Next year it will be on Saturday Chat Icon

DD's 1st birthday will be this summer. It's a Friday and I will be taking off.

In future, it will depend on what we have going on. I would like to, I just don't thinl it will always be feasible.

Re: FTWM-Do you take off of work for your LO birthday?

her 1st happened to be on a Sunday so i didnt have to, but i would have if it fell during the week. Just because.

Next year its on Presidents Day so we will be off again.

it will be during the week after that, i probably wont take off but id really like to not be working ft at that point anyway...

Re: FTWM-Do you take off of work for your LO birthday?

For her first bday both dh and I did.

She's turning 2 next week and I'm doing a half day to bring cupcakes to her daycare and then taking her to do something fun like messy paint studio.

I'm saving the day off for a Monday or Friday in a few weeks to actually take her on an overnight. I didn't want to take a full day on a Wednesday

Though it sounds sweet, I'd never hire someone who took a day off for their kid's birthday.
So, no, I do not.

Just curious what your logic is here?

I get an allotted amount of vacation days, as most people do, to use however I want. Why on Earth would it matter if it's for my kids birthday or not?

And to answer the original Q, yes I will take off every year for DD's bday (which also happens to be my bday!) I also take off random times just to have a day with DD.

Thanks for all the replies, ladies. I was just curious as to what others do.
To answer my own question: I will be taking her birthday off. She has a doc appt. that day (boo!) and will prob get a shot (double boo!), so I want to be there for that.
