My FIL died when my DH was a child. If we have a boy, we will definately use his name as a middle name.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
We've talked about it but Rich isn't a fan...I can't tell you how many cousins he has named Vinny! (Vincenzo, Vincent) But I do think it's a very big honor.
Would you consider it for a middle name or do you want to pass down the first name as a first name?

I think at this point I would do it as a first name!

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
If we have a son, we are naming him Jude, after DH's Mom Judith who passed away right before we got married. If we have a girl, we are going to give her my Mom's name as a middle name (Colette).

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
We didn't pick DS's first name for anyone, but his middle name -- Anthony -- is in honor of DH's late grandfather. I would have loved to use Anthony as a first name actually, but it's also my husband's name and for whatever reason my husband didn't want a 'junior' (or whatever he would have been had we named him Anthony..)
There are already a lot of people named after mine and DH's parents; so I'm not sure we'd go that route with any future children. But if we ever have a girl, her middle name will be my late grandmother's name for sure. If we ever have another boy, we might use a family name as a middle name as well :)

We named our daughter after dh's grandfather...don't think I'd name any future child after our parents though. Maybe use an initial or something...

My son Athan James is named after both his grandfathers. Athan is short for Athanasios (my maternal pappou) and James was my boyfriends maternal grandpa.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
With DS his first name happens to be a nick name of DH's late grandfather and his middle name is my dad's name. With DD, we happened to like names that were the same initals as our mothers so that is what we did. If we have another boy then we most likely use my FIL's name as the middle name which I don't like at all.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
My dad has 5 daughters, 2 granddaughters, even our dog was a girl. Before I even got married, i knew i would name my son after him. So Twin A is going to be Michael. Twin B will be Lilly after DH's maternal grandmother. DD is Ella, after both grandma's Ellen and Mary Ellen and her Middle name is my MIL's maiden name.
i like the fact that if they are ever asked if they are named after someone, they can say yes, instead of Mommy liked my name.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
Kailas middle name is June, which is my grandmothers name and mothers middle name,
The next one if its a boy will have the middle name Francis (which is also FH's middle name) and is also my grandfathers name. If its a girl, I think Ill do another middle name, just not sure what.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
We didn't use any family names when naming DD. If DD had been a boy her middle name would have been James after DH's uncle who died suddenly last year. I thought about using my grandma's name as a middle name for DD, but I just didn't love the way it sounded...she would have been Natalie Marguerite ....instead she's Natalie Grace. Maybe next time around.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
YES, I did! DS is named after my FIL. My mother and father have VERY italian names..Annunziata and Fedele. If DC #2 was a boy we were going to name him Matteo Fedele. My mother begged me NOT to use her name since it's such a long name.
BTW: I LOVE the name FRANKIE!!!!!
Such a cute name!

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
In my faith we name after the deceased. Sadly, I will be naming my daughter for both of my parents (DH's grandfatheras well) in Hebrew.
