Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
My maternal grandmother hated her name--Concetta--but I may have used it. I also loved my paternal grandmother's name, Charlotte.
As for boys, I would have loved a little boy named Joey (my grandfather was Joseph) but DS is a III, so basically he is named after my deceased FIL (as well as DH).

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
In both my DHs & my family, it is tradition for the oldest son (my DH) to name his 1st son after his father, to carry the name. So thats what we did, my 1st son has my FILs name, and my 2nd son, my fathers name. If we have a girl, we will name her aft my MIL.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
Landon's middle name (Henry) is a family name. Henry is DH's middle name Henry is DH's father's middle name Henry is DH's grandfather's first name. I personally don't like the name but it had meaning to DH so we used it.

Ryan Micheal - Micheal is my FIL Justin Stephen - Stephen is my DH Jonathan Vito - Vito is my Dad
I liked all the names ...even my dad's but I thought that these kids should have their own unique name.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
I named DD after my grandma Bridget. I also wanted to name other DD Amelia after my grandmother but DH wanted to pick the name. I ended up naming other DD Alanna after a family friend anyway.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
my DS was named after my grandmother, we took the first part of her name and made it into a boys name (you know my DS name, the beginning of it was her name)

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
Lily was named after me (sort of). I'm Lori Anne, she's Lily Anne. If we ever have a boy, he will most likely be Thomas Michael (My FIL/husband are Thomas and my father, bother, BIL are Michael). It makes it so much easier that all of the men in my family have the same names!!

Did you/Would you name a child after a parent?
I wouldn't name them after, but I did use *my* Grandmother's name for DD's middle name and we will probably do the same if #2 is a boy (not yet!!) with my Grandfather's name (which is also my fathers)

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
Both of our boys will have grandparents names as middle names. DHs dad passed away 7 years ago and I suggested we give DS his name (as a first name...very common, Michael) and DH didn't want that, he said he wanted DS to have his own name so we made Michael his middle name. This baby's middle name will be Anthony after my dad...if we could only figure out a first name

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
My daugher, Jordana, is named after my father, Jerry. He passed away in 1996. Her middle name, Madison, is after my grandfather, Mendal.
If I have a son, his middle name will be Jerry.
My neice, Ella, is named after our grandmother, Ella. My nephew's middle name, Jacob, is after my grandfather, Jacob.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
My nephew is named after his father (BIL), his grandfather and his great-grandfather! Not sure that my sister was really excited about the name, but she did say, how many chances do you get to have a IV?
DS#1 has DH's grandfather's very Croatian name w/in his first name (although I wanted to use that name before meeting DH so it worked out, since DH was super close to him and was semi raised by him). His middle name is DH's first name, which is the English version of his FIL's name. MIL gave us a bit of trouble not using the French (FIL) version, but I was the one who signed the BC...LOL
DS#2 middle name is an English version of DH's original middle name (long story on why it was changed). His first name has no meaning - it was the only name we could agree on.
If we have a girl, I have always wanted to use my pat grandmother's name Josephine. I have also thought about combining my mom and MIL's names...Madelena - but I'll cross that bridge if I ever get to it.

Re: Naming a child after a grandparent
I named my daugther after my mom AND my grandma (they are both named madeline). I get plenty of looks b/c I guess it is just more culturally acceptable to name children after men, and not women. I don't know what is right or wrong- but the reason why I did it is because my mom and my grandma are very strong, smart, caring women- and I was hoping that in passing on their name, I would also be passing on some of those qualities that make them so wonderful and so terribly important to me!
