Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I love hearing how other working moms get through their days! Had to spinoff from the other post about SAHM daily routines!

I wake up at 5 am ( go to bed at midnight). Get all 3 kids to sitter alone as husband leaves early! Catch train at 7:15!

Get to work at 8:45! I work in a high stress position, always on the go! No lunch break, etc. get home at 6:30 and scramble with dinner, bath, and food prep for next day. Wrap up around 9:30-10:30 and then do a workout dvd, get my clothes ready, etc until midnight. Wake up at 5 am and repeat!

For a few months each year I am required to increase my billable hours. Get home a little later but then work on laptop for 3-4 hours at night. Dishes stay in sink, clothes stay in machine, etc. it's exhausting!

What about the other working moms out there?

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

Wake at 4:30 and pump
Eat breakfast, get lunch together for DS and me, feed baby and leave house by 6:20 (I do get some things together the night before)
Takes about an hour to get to work
Work-do work through lunch, pump twice
Come home.
Feed baby
Showers for all
Eat dinner (thankfully living with family so this isn't my big thing yet)
All in bed by 8:15
Wash bottles, get new bottles ready, partially get lunches ready, put clothes out for next day, read, bed.

I haven't watched tv in MONTHS. I find minutes here and there.

I'm lucky that as a teacher, I have good hours and living with family has taken some stress off. But having a new baby and nursing/pumping is time consuming. I know it will get easier and I'll have more time. Right now, it's just getting through the day.

But I've stopped bringing work home. I get a lot done during the day (or I try) but home is for family, not work. It took a few years to get there. And doing things ahead like putting out clothes or packing snacks for a few days saves time.

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I feel like I have it pretty easy...
Wake up 6:30 a.m.
Get to work by 7:30 a.m. - I live about 5 minutes away.
Work until 4:30 p.m.
DH is with DD during the day, and he cooks dinner.
I give DD a bath after we eat.
The ONLY REALLY challenging part is that we co-sleep and DD doesn't have a set bed time. So, every night is pretty much a crap shoot. I don't get nearly enough sleep.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

up at 5:45 am, shower, get myself dressed and make up on. at some point DS gets up (he's almost 6 and an early riser). get his breakfast, make me some tea. I usually sit for a few min reading news, email.

DH is usually up before me showering etc. as he takes a 6:20 am train into Philly. (we live in PA). He's home by 6:00 pm usually if there are no train troubles.

Im out of the house by 7:10 to drop DS at his new school for 7:35 am start time. Then I head back in the other direction to go to my job in NJ. I have about a 35 min drive (on a good day with no traffic).

Leave work by 4:30 to head back home and get DS from after care. Get home, make dinner, unpack all our shit from the day, etc.

I also have a home based business so most nites I am emailing customers, designing, printing or assembling orders. Lately its been every nite Im working on stuff b/c its been so busy. Im trying to lessen my work load. I cant do this much longer..lol.
In the midst of this, Im getting DS showered, DH cleans up from dinner, get our clothes ready for the next day. Homework with DS, snack time.

DS is usually up in bed by 8pm; and Im usually in bed by 10, 10:30.

and honestly, when I was a SAHM mom, my days werent much different. always go go go, or working on orders while DS was in pre k 3 days a week. Up working on orders at nite (b/c this was my only income for a while).

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

Up at around 7:30. Im lucky that DH leaves before I do, so he gets my DD ready who is in daycare and takes her. I am then up with DS, getting ready for work and him up and ready for school.

From there, work from 9-5. I too have a high stress job so I almost always work through lunch, so no break all day. Haul ass out of there, pick up DS from aftercare by 5:30 and DD by 6. DH usually doesnt get home until around 7, so its all on me. DH also works a 2nd job Thursday and Friday nights - which is when there is football practice for DS (along with either Monday or Weds).

Three nights a week DS have football practice at 6. So I haul ass out of work, run to get DS. Get home get him changed and ready for practice, and grab snacks for the kids. Pick up DD from daycare on the way. At practice by 6. Practice is from 6-8. Home by 8:15 - THEN we finally eat dinner. Then we do HW. That is usually done by 9. Baths/Showers from 9-9:30 and everyone is in bed by 10. After they are in bed, I get everything ready for school, clean up the house, etc.

Thats all usually done by 10:30-10:45. I sit down for an hour, log into work, work for about another half hour, answering emails etc, then I finally go to bed about half an hour after that between 11:45 and midnight. Rinse and repeat.
Non-football nights are easier and kids are usually in bed by 9.

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I WFH so I have the best and worst of both worlds.

6:30-7:30 wake up. (I wake up when my six month old master tells me to)
We both get dressed.
I make coffee.
I feed him.
We play until sitter arrives at 8:45
Sometimes I put him down for a nap. Sometimes sitter. He goes down between 8:30 and 9:30.
I make myself a breakfast when sitter arrives and head to my home office until lunch.
I make lunch and play a little
Pump or feed him
Head back to work until 530
I shower at 530, sitter leaves at 6.
6 well play a little or do bath time
7pm is the king's bedtime
715 I make or order dinner
730-8 we eat.
8 till about 10 we hang, watch TV, soak in hot tub, read, etc.
10-11 is my bedtime

Sometimes I'll run an errand during lunch.

On days I go into the city, my mom sleeps over and watches him.

6am wake up
Pump in the am
Out the door by 730 to catch train
Pump once at work
Home at 730
Pump
Dinner
Bed
He's usually sleeping before I get home.
Luckily I don't go in often.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I get up between 645 and 7.
Shower and get ready for work...hair/makeup/ get dressed.
If DD isn't up on her own by 730 I wake her.
DH gives her breakfast and makes her a sandwich for school lunch.
On my way out door I will lay out clothes for her and pack her sandwich, drinks and snacks and backpack.
I leave around 8 am..DH gets her dressed and on the bus by 845.

When I get home at 6 pm I do homework with her and depending on what we are having, DH or I will cook dinner.
I give DD a shower and get her ready for bed.

Then it's couch/TV time until bed around 1030 or 11.

I have it pretty easy.

On the few days a month I have to be in nyc I.am up at 530 and on a 704 or 719 train and home late too so all bets are off.
But thats rare.

And on days I decide to work from home, I sleep later. ..usually until 730 or so and on those days I walk her to the bus and then start my workday from my kitchen!

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

With just DD1 -

Wake up sometime between 8 & 8:15 unless DD wakes earlier.
Get dressed and do makeup by 8:30
Get DD up if she's not already up at 8:30. Get her changed and dressed.
Give DD her milk as I finish getting ready.
Out the door by 9-9:05
Drop DD off by 9:10
Work from 9:30/9:45-5:30
Home by 6:30
Dinner around 7-7:30
DD goes to bed around 9:30 so between dinner and bedtime, we play, give DD a bath, shower ourselves, etc.

ETA: I'm on maternity leave after having DD2 so I'm sure this will change once I go back.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I'm heading back to work from maternity leave in a couple of weeks & I'm bracing myself for what's to come, This is what I'm expecting my schedule to look like...

Out of bed no later than 6 am.
One hour to get ready! Maybe my 2 ds will stay asleep, but most likely they will wake up during this time. BF the little one or pump if he's sleeping, make sure I have everything out & ready for them for the day ahead, and bag packed for myself for work (actually really dreading this time of day as I'm sure it will be insane).
Leave house no later than 7 am. (mom comes over to watch kids)
Pump 3 times at work.
Leave work at 4:10, home by 5:15 pm.
Play with, feed, bathe, etc. the kids until older ds goes to bed at 7:30 pm. Hang out with younger ds until he goes to bed (who knows what time, hopefully by 9 or so).
Hang out with DH. Clean, laundry, dishes, etc. & get things ready for the next day.
Go to bed, hopefully before 1 am.

I'm scared I'm going to lose my mind.. I was stressed enough commuting to the city & working FT with just my older ds, now with 2, I just hope I'll be able to handle it. And I'm going to miss my babies Chat Icon

I'm up at 4am. It's my only time to exercise, and right now I'm training for Hamptons Half Marathon.
Out of the house at 630. Get to work for 730. Pick up my twin daughters (now 5 years old) and home usually at 450/5pm. My husband works an afternoon shift. I get home dinner, run errands, homework, etc. Girls are sleeping usually 8ish. I'm sleeping 10/1030.
Rarely do house work at night- I tend to do house chores early Saturday mornings.

Wow I have it easy compared to some of you! I should be so thankful for that!

I usually wake up around 6:30 and when I'm being good, I exercise (otherwise I cuddle with DS on the couch while watching tv). DH & I work at the same place so we carpool - DS is on the bus around 8:40, then we drive together. Work is 9-5. We pick up DS after work (lately we've been going to the gym together 3x a week after work), then one of us makes dinner while the other helps with homework. We're both involved with bedtime (one gives bath and the other reads), then bed around 9:30-10. I'm a zombie if I don't regularly get 8 hours of sleep.

The only change is Wednesday's - DH is in class after work so I do everything in the evening.

Get LO from daycare or grandma around 5:15pm
Get dinner prepped and take care of household chores and LO until DH comes home around 7pm
Shower and finish prepping dinner while DH takes care of LO
8-9pm LO and I both in bed....DH joins us around midnight
Up usually once for MOTN feed
Begin again at 5am....

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

Up at 6:45
I get dressed and do my makeup and get DS dressed.
Make breakfast for both of us and get us out the door by 7:45.
I drive him 20 minutes away to school - he's dropped off by 8:15.
I work from 8:30 - 4:30
Pick DS up from school at 4:45
Home to change and make dinner
After dinner I help DS with homework, shower, dessert, and then get him to bed by 8:00PM.

Thursday and Friday he has football practice from 6 - 7:30, so on those days it's crazy getting him home for dinner and back out the door to practice.

After he's in bed I make lunches, put clothes out for the next day, do laundry, clean up, TV for maybe an hour, and in bed by 10PM.

DH will occasionally help with dinner and usually helps with the bedtime routine (shower, teeth brushing, etc.). But he works long hours and travels a lot of the time, so I try to be as self-sufficient with it all as possible.
