Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

wake up at 5am
(pray that the twins are still asleep)
If babies are up, feed & change them and put them in their bouncer seats while i get ready.
Once I'm ready, wake DH and hang out with the girls while he gets ready.
Drop the girls off at my parents house and DH drops me off at work by 7-7:15am
Work til 3pm (some days I work til 6pm if I have meetings)
Go to my parents house until DH gets home from work ( I don't drive)
Get the girls bathed before we get picked up
Home by 7:30-8pm and hope the girls arent' fussy so we can eat and get ourselves ready for the next day.
9pm- Start to get the girls settled to be put down for the night (or at least that's the plan most nights. LOL)
10pm- get bottles ready for possibly middle of the night feedings. Wash bottles and dishes. Try to lay out clothes for next day and squeeze in a shower.
from 11pm to midnight its usually us putting down the girls and them waking up for a bit before they are down for the night.

4:30 - wake up w my BF and make lunches for him and DS and myself.
5:30-7 - work out, then have a cup of coffee and then shower
7:00 - wake DS and give him breakfast
7:35 - walk DS to school for 7:45 drop off, then head into the city.
9:10 - arrive at work
5-6pm-leave work after a whirlwind day
7ish -arrive home

On M&W my DS is with his dad until 7:30, so those days my BF have dinner and I clean up a little. on T&Th, my BF picks up DS from aftercare and makes dinner and does his homework with him.

DS is in bed at 9 after shower and hang out.

I am a zombie by then. All laundry and major cleaning gets done on Saturdays, with a big clean on the weekends we don't have the boys.

HS Teacher. I guess the tradeoff is that my workday starts at 7:30.

My DH is an engineer and can leave work around 4 (as long as he has no meetings), but he gets into work at 6:15 am.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I'm lucky bc my son is very good... I call him the low maintenance toddler Chat Icon

He wakes up around 6:30 on an early day, 7am on a late day. If he is early I wake up, go in his room, I say good morning. He says good morning mama!! And waves lol from his crib. He asks for two toys and a few books. I give them to him and he sits in his crib and plays with his toys and looks/reads his books. I then take a shower and get my hair dry, quick make up, and dress. I always have my clothes and his picked out the night before.

Then, I go back to him (I'm done at that point) and I put the toys and books he had back in his toy chest and I dress him. Then, we go downstairs and let the dog out. She patiently waits during our getting ready lol. Then I put him in his highchair, I give him fruit, yogurt, and a whole wheat waffle or some variation of that with milk for breakfast. Then we are out the door. His bag is already packed for school (daycare, preschool, whatever you want to call it lol). Then his school is five minutes from my house. I drop him and am on the road and at work usually about 8:30, depending. Then, I work until around 4pm and go and pick him up... Three days out of the week I pick him up and two days his daddy picks him up. Sometimes if daddy wants an extra day that's no problem and he can get him. But on the days I get him it's home by about 5pm usually and we have dinner... I usually have stuff made in the beginning of the week and I have this rapid food steamer which might be the best thing I ever bought and it cooks/heats stuff without it getting rubbery! Anyway, I make dinner, we eat and then he takes a tub. And PJs and we read some books or go for a nice walk in the stroller around the community. And then nighty night. Sometimes he will also watch a video with his letters or numbers - it's cute bc he sits there and recites them Chat Icon

He's usually in bed by about 6:45-7pm. He sleeps about twelve hours a night, he takes a nap at school.

Our weekends we do like a Gymboree, we spend time with friends - like my girlfriends who have kiddies. And sometimes I also bring him after school during the week to see my parents, my brother, my sister, we will have dinner there. And then I'll give him the tub and all there vs at my place.

On the days that my ex gets him I go food shopping, run whatever errands - Costco, etc. dry cleaning, whatever. I also try to go to the gym like four times a week so a lot of times I'll do that when my ex is with him.

I usually go to bed around 10-11pm. I do the cleaning up and getting ready for the following day, I read, watch shows, whatever, before bed.

5:50 - Get up and walk/run with the dog
6:15 - shower / get ready
6:30ish - DS wakes up, slows down my routine LOL
7:15 - nanny arrives
7:20 - out the door for the train to the city
8:40 - at work
5:00 - run to Penn Station
6:15 - get home, nanny leaves, walk dog
6:30 - make dinner, or heat leftovers or grill
7:00 - dinner w/DH and DS
7:30 - clean up kitchen, play, watch the YANKEES
8-9 - somewhere in here we do the bedtime routine
9:30 - fall asleep on the couch (30 weeks pregnant)

Paying extra for the nanny hurts but it's the only way to save our sanity. No daycare in our area opens early enough for us to get a parking spot at the train...long story LOL

It really takes a village. Can you get a sitter?

Yeah I have it pretty good schedule-wise but I still had to find a sitter just to be able to date and see my boyfriend Chat Icon so yeah it actually really helped. If you can, I suggest you do it for sure.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I manage a Local Union office. There are two others in the office so we work out our hours so that there is always someone there between 7am-5pm.
I also live and work in queens now so I have no commute. Before I left for maternity leave, our office was still in the city and I had a 45 min commute. Now I'm less than 10mins from home.

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I'll preface this by saying that DD is 4.5 months old.....

5:00AM - Wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed, brush teeth, etc. I shower the night before to save time. While I am getting ready, DH takes the dog on a short walk around our block since he's home alone in the house during the day for a long time.
5:45/6AM - Wake up DD, change her diaper, feed her while she's in her PJ's in case she spits up, change her into her outfit for the day.
6:45AM - Leave house to take DD to daycare. DH leaves the house to head to the LIRR at around the same time.
6:55AM/7AM - Drop DD off at daycare
7:30AM - Get to work.
3:30PM - Leave work (I'm a high school teacher). I sometimes will stay a little later if I need to prep my lesson for the following day, grade papers/tests, make parent phone calls, etc.
4:15PM - Pick DD up from daycare
5PM - DD goes down for a long nap during which time I prep dinner, feed the dog, throw in a load of laundry, pay bills, lightly tidy up the house, etc.
6:45PM - Wake DD up from nap. Feed her some veggies.
7:15PM - DD bath and nightly routine (moisturizer, hair combed, nails clipped if needed, put on pj's, etc.)
7:45PM - DD's last bottle of the night
8:30PM - DD put down for the night in her crib
8:45/9PM - DH gets home from work
9PM - Dinner (ugh, I know, so late!)
9:30-10:45PM - I grade, answer e-mails, lesson plan, prep bottles for the following day, pack DH and my lunch, etc.
10:45PM - Shower
11PM - Sleep
5AM - Do it all over again..............

As much as the daily grind sucks, it helps to know that so many FTWM's have crazy, busy, long days, too! I feel like sometimes that I'm the only one who doesn't get a minute to breath, but this thread clearly reminds me that I'm in good company. I hate that DH gets home so late from the city -- he hardly sees DD Monday thru Friday -- but this is life. He's currently looking for positions here on LI, but his industry is really focused in NYC......

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

Mine is so similar to the others posted that nothing stands out.

I will just say though that my sanity improved when I resigned myself to the fact that the weeks are just survival mode, plain and simple. Especially now that there is actual HW to do.

Laundry, household projects, any meal that requires a big production, etc. waits until the weekend. This is the only way that DH or I can get any time to ourselves at all during the week - even just 20 minutes to read before collapsing into bed.

Yesterday I was off (NYC DOE teacher) and I made a nicer meal than usual because I had the time to put together the different components.

And you need a cleaning person.

I am single, work 8-4 with a 15 min commute and have 2 DC in 5th and 7th grade. I have NO family, no sitter. Older DD now comes home alone. Younger one is in after school. I occasionally ask a neighbor or other parent for help. My free time is a lunch break if I take it and ever other weekend when the kids go with my ex.

Schedule is:
5:45-6 wake up
6:00 walk dog
6:30-7:30 wake up DDs, put on makeup, dress, pack lunches and snacks, do dishes, straighten up
7:30 - 8:00 drive girls to 2 schools and to work
4:00 pick up DD2
4:30 walk dog quickly
5-7 Depends on day but bring DDs to classes
7-9:30 walk dog for 30 min, check homework, clean up, shower etc
10:00 bed

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I'm up at 530, out the door at 550 to start work at 8. Leave at 250. Home by 430. On Mon & Wed, I pick up my boys from MIL. On Thursdays my mom watches them at my house. Dinner around 5/530. Then play until bed. DS2 is in bed at 7, DS1 is in bed around 8. DH is home all day, so I don't have to get the boys ready. That makes life easier. On Mondays and Fridays, DH is home when I get home and then leaves for work after. Those days are easier because I have help when I make dinner.

If I took a shower at night and didn't have to get my kids ready and out (which sounds like PP doesn't) or pack my own food, eat breakfast etc I could do it too.

Up at 6:30. Lunches packed, dressed, make-up, straighten my hair if I have time. DH is unemployed right now so he makes sure DS gets to pre-k. I work from 7:30-3:30. Pick up DS from daycare. We come home and DH usually starts dinner. I usually clean, play with DS, and unwind from the day. DS gets a bath, story, and in bed by 9. Then we hang out, I take a shower, we go to bed. We're night owls so we're up pretty late.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to all you working moms out there who accomplish all of this and to those of you who work out as well as deal with these crazy schedule you are insanely amaaaaaazing!!

I am a full time working mom but I work from home so its whole different ball game. It used to be super difficult when the kids were younger and at home with me all day but now they are in school and I have done the drop off I can work without interruptions until 2.30. I do work some evenings to make up for some work time lost during school pick up time and activities etc but I have it super easy compared to you moms.

Also most of you are basically running on fumes and definitely falling short in the sleep department - I don't know how you do it.Chat Icon Chat Icon
