Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

Night before I pack lunches, lay out clothes. I go to bed early.
Get up 5:15, workout, eat, shower, dressed etc.
I leave at 6:30, my husband does morning drop off.
Leave work anywhere from 3:30-4:30, pick up from sitter T/Th or M,W,F my husband picks up from school.
After school activities: soccer, karate, or just play outside till dinner. If we don't have an after school activity, and it's not a T/Th I will grocery shop. Sometimes we do Peapod, or my husband will go out at night.
Make dinner
Clean up- try to do one large chore a day
Prepare for the next day
Read in bed before sleeping

ETA: My husband and I are a team and he has more flexibility in his schedule, he will work after we all go to bed. There is little couple time unfortunately as I am so tired at night, and little me time, except at 5:15am

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

To make things easier during the week I try to get as much done sunday night as possible. I use one of those hanging clothes organizers that has slots and lay out my kids clothes for the entire week. (It's actually a shoe organizer like this but my kids' clothes are small and fit.
Right now I have about 10 or 11 meals in my freezer and I try to make 2 or 3 more on the weekend to replenish.
Sundays I also do all lunch prep- clean and cut fruits and veggies. Put snacks into baggies, etc.

Routine is:
6AM: wake up
unload dishwasher from night before
pack up lunches
get myself ready and eat breakfast
7AM: kids wake up
change their diapers, feed them, dress them
load up the car
7:30-7:45: leave the house
8AM: drop them off at my mom's
9AM: get to work

5PM: leave work. Call DH and have him put freezer meal in oven (unless its already in crockpot)
6PM: home, get settled, usually sit down for dinner between 6:15-6:30

After dinner- clean up kitchen, dishes, and get all lunches prepared for next day.
7:
quick bath for the kids. Tidy up around the living room and kitchen a bit.
Then we usually hang out in the living room, read some books. The kids drink their milk and watch an episode of mickey mouse clubhouse.
8PM: kids go to bed. I pick up all their toys.
Then I get to relax before bed.
I want to try going to the gym 3 days a week after the kids go to bed though.

I get out early (1:30) on Fridays so errands can get run then. I get my groceries delivered by peapod which is a HUGE life saver. I tidy up and clean as I go along. Bathrooms get cleaned usually on Saturday.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to all you working moms out there who accomplish all of this and to those of you who work out as well as deal with these crazy schedule you are insanely amaaaaaazing!!

I am a full time working mom but I work from home so its whole different ball game. It used to be super difficult when the kids were younger and at home with me all day but now they are in school and I have done the drop off I can work without interruptions until 2.30. I do work some evenings to make up for some work time lost during school pick up time and activities etc but I have it super easy compared to you moms.

Also most of you are basically running on fumes and definitely falling short in the sleep department - I don't know how you do it.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I feel like superwoman lol
But I don't have anything left to give at work or home or in my relationships. I can only do so much in each bucket of my life.

I'm up at 530, out the door at 550 to start work at 8. Leave at 250. Home by 430. On Mon & Wed, I pick up my boys from MIL. On Thursdays my mom watches them at my house. Dinner around 5/530. Then play until bed. DS2 is in bed at 7, DS1 is in bed around 8. DH is home all day, so I don't have to get the boys ready. That makes life easier. On Mondays and Fridays, DH is home when I get home and then leaves for work after. Those days are easier because I have help when I make dinner.

I am just amazed that you can be out the door in 20 minutes! It takes me that long to shave my legs! ! Chat Icon

If I took a shower at night and didn't have to get my kids ready and out (which sounds like PP doesn't) or pack my own food, eat breakfast etc I could do it too.

Yeah- I shower at night. I also pack my lunch and pick out my clothes the day before. My routine in the am is - alarm at 530, hang out in bed until 533. Bathroom, brush, dressed, eyeliner, get my work bag, throw lunch in, and make a smoothie for breakfast to bring with me. I go to sleep with wet hair and let it curl overnight. I can't get up any earlier than I already do, so I've mastered the quick exit in the am! It also helps tremendously that I leave before either of my monsters wake up. It takes me 20 mins to convince my 2 year old that it's not good to sit in poop all day, lol.

I don't feel like superwoman but I agree that I really don't have much left to give after taking care of the kids. Trying to find more balance but it's hard. I want to put more into my relationship with DH and at work.

I'm currently on maternity leave and won't be back to work for a few more months but this was my schedule with DD and I think it will remain pretty similar. I'm kind of terrified to return to work with two LOs.

5:15 - wake up, get ready. Shower the night before. DH wakes up DD after 7, gets her dressed, and brings her to my parents. I get her diaper bag ready and lay out her clothes the night before. She eats at my parents.
5:45 - leave to catch the train.
6:03 - train to the city.
7:15 - at my desk.
4:57 - train home.
5:45/6 - get to my parents. Wait for DH. We often eat dinner with them. My mom has usually given DD a bath. Even if we don't stay, my mom cooks for us and we'll bring food home. Yes, I know how lucky I am. Chat Icon
7-8 - get home. We put DD to bed way too late and it's generally a s*itshow.
10-11 - hopefully, in bed.

My house is always a mess. DD is pretty much a tornado and trashes everything. I do what I can. I need to get better about cooking and meal planning.

We hired a lawn service this past summer to help out because DH was doing it himself it and it cut into our family time over the weekend big time. I hired a cleaning person too but wasn't thrilled and didn't continue. I need to find someone new.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

See and this is why I couldn't have a typical job. I work a non-traditional schedule. But that means my DH does a lot than most others do.

7am - everyone wakes up and gets dressed/eats breakfast - I run around house gathering backpacks/homework while DH makes lunch for DS #1
8am - DH leaves for work
8:40am - DS #1 on the bus
9:15am - I take DS #2 to preschool
9:30am-12:30pm - my free time - usually I just start working for the day at home, sometimes this is commuting time to location I am going to be at that day - also time to run errands
12:30pm - I head to work - I work until 8-9pm most evenings

That's when the others in our village pick up the slack.

12:30pm - babysitter or MIL/FIL picks DS #2 up at preschool
1pm - DS #2 has speech M-W - babysitter takes him and then feeds him lunch afterwards
3:45pm - DS #1 off bus
3:45pm-6:30pm - both kids with babysitter or MIL/FIL till DH gets home - homework time
6:30pm - DH makes dinner for himself and kids
7:15-8pm - DH takes care of baths, remaining homework, reads books
8pm - kids go to bed

I'm usually home between 8 and 9. I have Fridays off but I work on most Saturdays.

And yes my DH is a saint. I've basically become the breadwinner this year with my bonuses, so he's been very supportive. Plus we have an awesome village of our parents and babysitter who make it work.

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I'm miserable with my schedule..it's so unpredictable..ds is 8..typical day:

wake up at 4am
sitter comes at 5am.
get the train into the city at 521
arrive at work by 630am....on a good day i catch a 412 train out of penn, able to get my son at 510 from after school. Go home, do homework, go to tkd, dinner, bath, make my breakfast and lunch for the next day, get ds clothes and lunch ready for the next day. Bath for him, read and bed by 9pm the latest for him. I'm usually asleep between 10 and 2
1030.

A bad day is when I'm told I have to stay at work late last minute. Then I have to scramble to find someone to get my ds from after school if my ex cant, but luckily his office is flexible and he usually can. If i have to stay at work tooo late, then I have to sleep over because it's just too late and too far at that point to go home. I feel my commute is so long and I have no hours in the day for me and do things around the house and what not. I wish I could find another job or closer to home, but not an option.

I give you a lot of credit for maintaining this schedule! I am also curious, what do you do? I know that some of my

5:45/6:00 - wake up (DH is already gone by 4 am)
Shower
Feed dog
Walk dog
Dry hair & quick makeup
Make a cup of coffee and a bottle for DD (6mo)
Wake DD and give her a bottle
Pack diaper bag
Iron clothes and get dressed
Wake up DS (2yo)
Everyone in the car at 7:30

8:00am - arrive at ILs to drop off the kids (she gives them breakfast)
8:30am - arrive at work
5:30pm - leave work and get home by 6
Dinner, cleanup, bath, bottles.
8:30ish - bed for kids
We go to sleep not too long after
Repeat

DH picks up the kids after work around 3pm, so that helps me get home at a normal hour. We go to sleep pretty early since DH wakes up at 3:30am, so I get a decent 7ish hours of sleep. There's still zero time to get anything else done though. We both work Saturdays till 2 as well.

Get up at 5:30-5:45
Pack lunch for myself and DS 1
Leave at 6:15 for a 6:34 train
Arrive at work by 7:45
Leave work a little before 5
Get home at 6:15
The kids are usually fed either by DH or inlaws. If DH is home, he cooks most of the time and if he's not, I make something quick myself - so I eat, clean up, go through DS 1's backpack, play a little shower them around 7:30, put them to bed by 9 and then exercise or work, shower, pick out clothes watch a quick show and off to bed.

DH helps in the morning.
He gets up at 6:00
DS gets up anywhere from 6:15-6:45
DH makes lunch for DS and gets his breakfast going.
I wake up at 6:45.
Between the two of us we get Ds dressed and get his chores done.

If DS does well in the morning he earns 30 mins of ipad time which keeps things quiet.
By 8:10 we are out the door to walk ds to school.
8:25 I am on the way to work and I am there until 3:15.
I get to DS at aftercare at 3:30.
Homework comes first.
Then
MOnday- Religion at 4:15
Tuesday- Counseling every other week or some other appointment
Wednesday- Karate at 4:45
Thursday- Boy Scouts at 6:20
Friday. nothing
(Saturday and sunday are karate and swimming.. dh helps with those some weekends).
I get dinner in there somewhere. Some nights are take out because it just doesn't work any other way)
Dh walks in the door by 7:15 unless he is working later... which is often.
Bed for DS by 8:30

Spinoff - working moms typical day!

I shower and make lunches for myself, DH & DS the night before (although, DS gets lunch made once a week, the other days I pay for catered lunch)

DH leaves for work at 515
Up at 6:30-645 to get myself ready. DD wakes up with me, so she gets her bottle at this time.
DS wakes up anytime between 630 & 700
Get both of them dressed and feed DS. My mom watches DD and drops off DS at school at 8 am.
I leave the house at 710 to catch an express bus into midtown.
At the office between 815-830 on a good day. Leave anywhere between 415-440 to catch the bus home. I usually get in between 530-600.

Spend time with kids, cleaning up dishes from DH making himself and DS dinner. My mom feeds DD. Start making lunches, getting baths done.
Finish up hw with DS - DH does half of it with him around the 4pm hour. DS wants me to help him as well, so DH leaves me with some to do with DS when I get home.
DD goes down at 730
DS down at 8
I then do a load of laundry, straighten out and take a shower. Its usually 915 by the time I sit down and eat my dinner. I am in bed by 1015-1030.

I would love to work out but I am not an early bird to get up an exercise and am too exhausted at the end of the day to do it after the kids go to bed.

I just started a new job over the summer and there is a NYSC two floors down from me. I think I am going to join and go at lunch. Its my only time.

I love hearing how other working moms get through their days! Had to spinoff from the other post about SAHM daily routines!

I wake up at 5 am ( go to bed at midnight). Get all 3 kids to sitter alone as husband leaves early! Catch train at 7:15!

Get to work at 8:45! I work in a high stress position, always on the go! No lunch break, etc. get home at 6:30 and scramble with dinner, bath, and food prep for next day. Wrap up around 9:30-10:30 and then do a workout dvd, get my clothes ready, etc until midnight. Wake up at 5 am and repeat!

For a few months each year I am required to increase my billable hours. Get home a little later but then work on laptop for 3-4 hours at night. Dishes stay in sink, clothes stay in machine, etc. it's exhausting!

What about the other working moms out there?

wow i just want to say that you are a trooper! that seems like A LOT all around and you find the energy to work out! Impressive! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff - working moms typical day!

We have 3 kids and we get up at 6:10am. I get in the shower and my husband goes downstairs to make lunches, put bottles together, etc etc. Then he gets my youngest who wakes around 6:30, gets him changed and gives him a bottle. Then i come down and he goes to shower. I do breakfast, put folders together, pack bags, feed the cats, feed the dog, wash dishes, get my middle one up/changed, brush teeth, pack lunch bags and leave at 7:30am.

7:30am i drop the 2 youngest at the sitters house & my husband drops our oldest at school.

work 8-4 (both of us).

4:10 pick up kids from sitter while my husband gets our oldest from Project Most. Unpack bags, check homework, etc etc.
4:45/5 go for a run with my youngest in the jogging stroller (every other day) while my husband starts dinner.
5:45 dinner
6:30 oldest showers and then 2 youngest get a bath.
7:00 youngest goes to bed
7:30 oldest 2 go to bed (books and bed)
10pm BED!
