I believe that this is probably the biggest reason why there are alot of non-voters out there. They simply do not have enough facts to base an educated opinion on.
Considering that any and ALL information about ANYTHING is literally a keystroke away, this statement really irks me.
Anyone who chooses not to vote because of a lack of facts is just pure lazy or apathetic.

I think neither candidate should be the next president. Its not about man or women, black or white, Its about a person with little experience, and a person who changes their mind like the wind to suit the situation at hand. A typical politician.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
I'm a political junkie - so I can't resist responding to this thread.
Obama has won Iowa -
But The only person who ever won Iowa and then went on to win the nomination and then presidency was George W. Bush - and well, the less said about him the better.
Another famous Clinton lost Iowa then won NH and we elected him President, twice.
So Obama winning Iowa doesnt mean much - if he follows Iowa with NH and then South Carolina (which is a much bigger challenge than libertarian NH), then I think the momentum will take over.
Clinton has a sizable lead in NH and the caucus is 5 days away - that's enough time for Obama to overtake her - but I really dont think he will.
So here's what I envision the conversation is in Hillary's advisor's room regarding her challenges:
1. Many people dont like her - well, that's not gonna change too much no matter how many appearances on David Letterman she does - or how many times she tries to laugh when she's interviewed.
2. the Bill factor. Do you use him - or leave him at home? Look at what happened to Gore - he never used Clinton and he lost (well, actually he won the election, but that's another post). So Hill will bring out Bill everywhere - the LOVE him in NH (it's where he got the nickname the comeback kid) and he can possibly cancel out their fear of her universal medical care program.
3. A woman can't lead troops. Well, not like 'W' and his cronies have done any good at all -but the stigma remains that she (or any woman) can't 'push the button' or lead the military. So if she gets the nomination she'll need a VP who balances out that challenge - and here's my predication - she'll go to her old pal, Supreme Allied Commander General Wesley Clark as VP. He was in charge of all of the US and NATO forces in the former Yugoslavia when Slobodan Milosevic was taken out of power. . . . and there weren't any US military casualties under Gen. Clark.
Obama - well, how can you not like him? He's smart, well spoken, has a smart wife, two cute kids. Speaks about issues I am passionate about. . . but I dont know if he has enough experience to be president. He is in his first term as a US Senator. I dont know if that is enough.
Sure, I'd happily vote for him over Huckabee or Romney, but I'm voting for Hillary.
Edwards is dead in the water. He needed MUCH more than 29% in Iowa, given how much money and time he spent there - if you're not voting for Hillary, then you're vote is for Obama - he has all the momentum right now, not Edwards.

If Obama or Clinton are on the ticket look for four more years of Republican BS......I just don't see Middle America voting for either one

enter Bloomberg.
A white jewish president?
He won't win but he will take votes away from everyone and that will skew the whole election if he runs.
Lieberman is Jewish. Lots of people I talked to would not for him. And Dukakis was "Greek".
Lieberman is not Bloomberg. Bloomberg has tons more charisma..IF he runs, he will skew the democratic race.
I agree - He will skew it, but he will never win. IMO, you will never see a Jew in office and this is coming from one. I have always felt thats why Gore lost. The country would like to think it is progressive - it isnt. Jews are a huge minority in this country at around 1% of US total population. Out of those who vote, IMO there are not enough to make much of a difference. Roughly 4 million Jews in this country.
Nobody in either party does it for me at this moment. I am a registered Democrat, but I do not always vote along party lines.
Regarding the OP's choices, I'd hate to pick a candidate on the idea of one being black or one being a female. I would also hate to vote on the idea of the "lesser of two evils". Id prefer not to vote at all. I cannot vote for someone I do not believe in plain and simple. Sometimes, it isnt lack of education or apathy - its disbelief in the candidates. As much as I am honored to have the right to vote, I have the right not to.

I'm with you...I haven't really been following anyone yet but once candidates have been picked I will be doing my research.
I do think alot of people are leaning towards Obama because hes black and Hillary because she's a woman. Frankly I don't care if you are purple and a transvestite we just need a competent person to run our country.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
Truthfully, I dont have an opinion on either one of them at all, Im afraid that people will vote for either based solely on the fact that he is black and she is a woman, i would hope not but there is a small part of me thinks people will-regardless of what they offer. Now on the other hand, I lived in SC for 4.5 years and have never been called a racist until I got there. I have 2 family members that are black. Its one of those situation that actually in jest isnt me being a racist but a group thinking I was b/c I didnt jump to attention when they snapped for me to do so. I dont think its anymore prominent here then there, I just think down south there is still a stigma towards the whole color thing in general.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
I don't think either is going to win in the end - because we are talking black or woman president. Personally, I think this country is ready for either, but neither of them. Hillary is too flippy-floppy...she changes with the wind and has nothing that she really stands for except the medical care issue. Obama is too inexperienced. I like the fact that he seems true to his beliefs, but I'm not sure he would have done as well as he did in Iowa if it weren't for Oprah backing him. I think she changed the wave more than anything.
I'm not sure who I want to be president at this point...I think if I had to vote today - I would vote for Obama. I'm just not sure the rest of the country agrees with me.

The OP did not say what my political opinion was, if I was Democrat, Republican or from any other party. Who you think is the "best" candidate is NOT the topic of this thread. Well.... was not at the time I posted it.

but with Hil - comes Bill- and say what you want- he was good for this country
I agree with this 100%.
I would love to see Clinton win it, I think she's the one person that may actually be able to turn this country around for once.

Let me also add, as a 20-something now residing in the "Bible Belt"...
I think one of the largest problems we have, and will continue to have, is that young people affiliate with the party that their parents do, just because their parents say it's the right thing to do.
I'm surrounded by young people here in NC who call themselves "die-hard Republicans" and all of them are Bush supporters as well. What makes me raging mad about this is that they support him for one reason, and one reason only: He stands for God (I could go into how GW has risen to the top based on the ignorance of this tenet, but I will refrain because I could be here all day)...
As one of the other posters said, I think the biggest obstacle we have to overcome is the large percentage of the population who WILL vote Republican, simply because they're uninformed.
And, to those of you who ARE well-informed and choose to vote Republican, I simply say: I'm sorry if anything in this post has offended you!

I did not mean to imply that you would make a choice between those two candidates for those reasons. When you had written that Obama would be the first black president and Hillary the first female president, in my mind, those statements appeared as criteria. Sadly, I do think that there WILL be many people across the country will vote for Obama because he is black or Hillary because she is female and that frightens me. Itis no different than voting along party lines with no thought as to who the candidates are.
I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Ladies, there are these things called Primaries - YOU have a voice in deciding WHO the chosen nominees will be. Do not allow the opportunity to voice your opinion to slip away. Do your research NOW, watch the debates, decide who you want to vote for and go to the polls on Super Tuesday (Feb. 5th!)

See- i do completely agree with you, but i also think that it will work both ways- i think that (the 'die-hard') democrats (similar to the republicans that you mentioned), too, will vote for WHOEVER the democratic candidate is, regardless of their political platform, just to spite Bush. They can be completely uninformed, but because they equate all republicans with Bush, there will be the same ignorance on both sides.

ITA with this as well...
AND on a side note, am i the only one surprised at how LITTLE media coverage the race/gender thing has been given to Obama and Clinton? I keep waiting to hear more about if it factors in and havent heard too much.
