Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton

I think this country would more readily elect a black man than any woman, but I think either candidate is putting their lives on the line.
Interesting--I think it would be the other way, if we were are talking strictly, black man vs white woman, and not taking the actual candidates & their issues into consideration.
I do agree that either one might be too controversial, which might hurt the party, but I don't know if the Republican party has all that much to offer this time around either.

I LOVE Bill Clinton. I feel a draw to Hilary because it would bring Bill back intot he White House. Same...but I'm sort of indifferent on Hillary. Don't love or hate her.
My immediate vote is for Obama. I feel he has been solid throughout his campaign...the least amount of flip-flopping, imo. I'd like to see him win.

def all for Hillary. I hope she can pull it out. Obama doesn't have the experience that I feel a President should have.
And I do not like the fact that everyone keeps saying on the campaign trail that he will be the first black President. No one ever mentions that his mother is a White American. It just rubs me the wrong way.

not a democrat, but i'd much rather see obama as president- I can't stand Hillary.
And I agree that they all polling from the same voters and could hurt their chances. You may see Edwards getting the nomination.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
The "debate" was not really about their political opinion or why not putting republicans on the list BUT what people were thinking about the "history" that would be happening if Obama or Clinton were to be elected.
PERSONALLY I think people would be more open minded to a woman being President, whether she is the right candidate or not is a different matter. There was a Vice President woman before.
I agree that they are VERY risky candidates because it's a lot more than just politics.
Just like when Denzel Washington and Hally Barre won their Oscars. Such a big deal was made because they were black. Not because they won an Oscar.

enter Bloomberg.
A white jewish president?
He won't win but he will take votes away from everyone and that will skew the whole election if he runs.

Lieberman is Jewish. Lots of people I talked to would not for him. And Dukakis was "Greek".

I agree. I love Obama... His speech last night gave me chills. I love how he tries to get past the fear and divisivness that so many other candidates get stuck in
Yes, he is very well spoken!!!!!!

I think it's unsettling if people vote for them based solely on that fact (or, don't in spite of it). And, sadly, i think their race and gender will play a more significant role in the country's decision than their actualy platforms. Unfortunately, I think you are right. My only reservation about Obama at this point is that he is sooooo idealistic I am not sure how effective he will be against the "good ol boys" club already in place. I am not a fan of Edwards, and REALLY not a fan of any of the Republican candidates. I think that Hillary is a decent choice, but I do feel like many people will give her a hard time in the "good ol boys club" as well. In fact they are already doing it during the debates.....
Either way I wonder if we can really get worse after the Bush disaster.

to be honest, I think they cancel each other out...they are both postering to the same group of voters, and I can't see how it's not going to get split right down the middle....
But this is for the primary to determine who is on the Democratic ticket. Do you think that Obama and Hillary cancel each other out such that Edwards will win the ticket?

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
I don't like Hillary at all. LOVE Bill, not her. Obama doesn't have enough experience in either foreign or domestic affairs for this job and we already have had 7 years of a "learn as you go" president. I don't have any confidence in either one of them and I, certainly, wouldn't vote for them based on the fact that she would be the first woman president and he would be the first black president. Anyone who votes simply on that premises, shouldn't, IMO, be voting at all. I keep hoping for John Edwards to come to the forefront. Not likely at this point, but, I keep hoping.

Re: Touchy subject on Politics... do I dare do it? YES Obama vs Clinton
I am Obama fan and will be voting for him mainly due to hillary's way too extreme views on united commonweath healthcare. For domestic issues, I agree with Obama 99% of the time. The only thing with Obama that I'm fearful with is Iraq, but as I see it, Iraq is such a mess right now, no person will be able to clean it up in 4 years. As a registered and vocal democrat, I would hate to see another republican in office. The only repulican ideals I agree with is immigration and illegals (mainly due to the industry my DH is in which is carpentry, which sadly, has become more illegal).
I personally don't think the US is ready for both woman/black yet, so I feel that whether Obama or Hillary gets the pres. nomination, Edwards will most likely follow suite into the VP spot.

No we haven't. We had a female run on the ticket for Vice President, Geraldine Ferraro with Mondale, but they lost by a landslide.
Just looking at the candidates from a 'can they win it' perspective, I think I'd rather Obama get the nomination over Hilary. Hilary divides her own party so how can she win the whole election? I can't tell you how many democrats I know that can't stand her -never mind about how the republicans I know feel!
I think people would rather a black man run the country than a woman any day. Even then he'll have a hard time winning based on his race. Like it or not, bigots will come out to vote solely because a black man is on the ballot.

I think I'd like to see a Hillary/Obama ticket. Or Obama/Hillary. If they're together, I think they'll win. My immediate vote is for Hillary, but the two together would be a good thing as well.
I don't think that either one would do it - two egos like that don't fit on one ticket, KWIM? I couldn't see that happening on the republican side either.

I agree, I don't think it would happen. Although it would be smart, and then give whoever was the VP an 'in' with a presidential nomination after they served (assuming they were re-elected)

I don't really care for either of them. I want to love Obama, but I find him all charisma and very little substance. Just like Edwards.
Hillary is just annoying. I think she says what she thinks people want to hear (yes, I know they all do, but some are better at it then others) and doesn't have a clear voice of her own.
I love Kecenich (sp?)!! He just speaks his mind. He knows he's not going to win so he tells it like he sees it. Gotta respect that!

Im at a complete loss for politics. I have never followed it.
I would like to get to know a little bit more about each candidate. Is there a website I can go to that compares each candidate in terms of issues & such? Sort of like a Election 2008 for Dummys kind of thing. I am totally lost & I cant imagine voting for anyone without making a descision based on solid knowlege.
I believe that this is probably the biggest reason why there are alot of non-voters out there. They simply do not have enough facts to base an educated opinion on.
Thanks.
I asked the same thing a while back...
