Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
As a devoted "fag hag" to many gay men (and some lesbians too!) I'm all for it... as long as I'm in the wedding party!
I think that some day this country will let gays marry and it will be no big deal, the same way no one wanted women to vote and we look back on it like, "well that should have been a non issue".

I am not for it. I am for civil union but not marriage, benefits beneficiary and medical, etc...
And don't ask me why. That's my opinion!
i am NOT for it, but agree with the PP that I am for civil unions, benefits beneficiary, medical, etc. etc. they deserve those basic rights.... but
I am not for it because marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN and it has been since the dawn of time. the unity of marriage really at the end of the day, is to procreate and have a family. Same sex couples cannot do this naturally. Also, I believe in the religious aspect of marriage, which again presupposes that the union is between a man and wife...yes, i know that gets into the separation of church and state, which is why this is such an issue, but this is how i feel.
flame away....

my mom says the same thing, and i don't understand it.
My guess would be that it's because marriage is a religious sacrament; the civil union is the state recognition.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I am 100% for it. Gays should have the same marriage rights a anyone else.
If anyone has destroyed teh sacrament of marriage its the heterosexual couples wtih a 50% divorce rate.
To those againt it for religious reasons, polygamy was accepted in the bible. Look at Jacob and his two wives. Just because its biblical, doesn't mean its right today.
Its a shame than some estranged parent who didn't accept their child can make medical decicions or inherit $ because that indivdual's life partner is unable to under the law.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I am definitely for gay marriage. IMO, same sex couples don't denigrate the sanctity of marriage at all. Gold diggers who marry for money? Sure. People who view divorce as an easy way out when they go in? Absolutely. But same sex couples? I don't see the problem, myself....

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
this is one i will answer
i am totally for gay marriage, i feel love is love and they should have the right to be married and enjoy all the privileges of the government that go along with that but i feel they deserve more than just civil unions

I think many same sex relationships are a hell of a lot more stable than heterosexual ones. I'd rather see people get married and make commitments to each other.
ITA...its beyond ridiculous that this is even an issue...love is love and if you want to get married EVERYONE should have the right to.

I personally think you should have made a POLL for this one.
That way you may have more people answering how they really feel on the issue without feeling they go agains the crowd.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
if idiot celebrities can get married for 72 hours, why can't homosexuals in loving relationships get married?
I say there should be a ban on celebrity marriages!

no flaming at all, I can understand that people have religious views about it, but do you feel the same about Hindus, Buddhists and atheists getting married? that it should be civil unions. Just wondering what people think about my marriage.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I'm 1000000% for it. I think 20 years from now people will look back at this time and think of it like interracial marriage --- ignorant close-minded people were against it and used their clout to deny people their rights.
flame me all you want, but I believe in separation of church and state

No flaming, that is generally the same reason I have heard in the past from others.
I have a serious question. You brought up 3 points. Man & Woman, Children and religion. My Dh and I are not having children and are atheists, should we have not been permitted to marry, only to have a union? Probably should be a spinoff Feel free to FM me, I am just curious I do not get offended and feel everyone should be entitled to their opinion!!
My question may even be ignorant because I am unsure of the difference between a union vs a marriage, so you can tell me if my question is silly.

Just to play devils advocate, what about couples that marry with no intention of ever having children? If the reality of marriage is to procreate, how is this different? Should their marriage not be accepted by whatever religion they belong to?
ETS: I'm not flaming you in any way shape or form, I totally respect your opinion.

you bring up A GREAT POINT.... and honestly, i don't know the answer. You're right... this could be a spin-off! But i think the term marriage has become very very broad and so where do you draw the line? are non-religious marriages unions? those that don't want children just unions? i don't know... but i do believe that the point of marriage long ago was to have a family before we had the technology and medicine to make that choice or not and therefore, would be reserved between a man and a woman. the religious aspect is something else entirely, but i think most major religions (particularly the Judeo-Christian traditions) view marriage in the religious sense. In fact, one of the vows in a Catholic ceremony is to promise to raise your child Catholic should you be blessed with children and to promise to love one another like Christ loved his Church...
I am babbling... you stumped me!!!
i never thought of it that way... thanks for your opinion.
