Go easy on me. The topic is important to me. Other LIFers could care less but you can help me beat a dead horse and bump the thread at the same time. Does anyone even know or care why Monday? Hint: It is a serious topic to me.

the unity of marriage really at the end of the day, is to procreate and have a family. Same sex couples cannot do this naturally.
So then can a sterile man or infertile woman get married? Seriously, what is the difference between them or a same sex couple. Neither can have children.
Where did you hear, read or come to believe that the unity of marriage is about children? Totally not being snarky...just curious where that thought would come from?
According to the Catholic church (how I was raised!), you were to only have sex after being married and the whole purpose of sex is having children not pleasure.
What I meant was where does the catholic church claim this is from?
I was under the impression the church was founded on the bible and scriptures.
that info is not part of them, and so I question it.
Again , in my catholic education yrs, I heard of no sex before marriage and no birth control , but have never heard of marriage being about procreation.
I though that only hasidic jew's practiced that?

Nope. Did you know I have one of the few standard dachshunds left? The breeders make so many minis and I feel that the standards are becoming less common. It's a "pet peeve" of mine. Ah, you let me bring up another of my "high horse" topics.

Okay raise your hand if you waited till you were married to have sex and that it is never for pleasure.
Hmmm thought so

The Catholic church has made many claims over the last hundred of years. I remember this from France so it's not just the US. I think they had to "revise" their view when I was a kid about sex only allowed to have children. I remember it being on the news that the Church has changed their position on the topic to "keep up" with modern times.

Not to beat a dead horse (sorry, dead horse ), but here's a question:
Since most who are against it base their opinions on the views of the Catholic church - why should our country base its laws on the views of the Catholic Church? (or any other religion, for that matter) I always thought one of the wonderful things about living in the U.S. was that we have a separation between religion and government.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I guess I'm clueless here, and I'm sure someone will point that out, but when did the word "marriage" become something religious? You can talk about marriage between two things in a business context, in a social context and in a religious context. I'm just trying to understand how this word got all mixed up in religion. Just because a religious institution uses the word, it doesn't necessarily mean its only religious.
Anyone KWIM?
Oh, and by the way...I'm all for gay marriage..rock out with your beeeeeeeeep out!

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??

No WHERE in the bible does it mention gay's or marriage.
For the record I am pro gay marriage, but it actually does mention gays and marriage for procreation in the Old Testament.
Genesis 9:1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth
Leviticus 19:22 You shall not lie with a male as a woman, such a thing is an abomination
Like I said, if 2 people are in love and want to get married I'm all for it. I dont want this to turn into a religious debate, but these words were taken from the Old Testament, not from Catholic Doctrine.
