Maybe she was looking for rolling papers for the pot?

OMG! I didn't even think of that!

OK.

i want to share something about pot.

Don't ask me how I know thisChat Icon

Pot really doesn't make you crazy or irrational.

Pot mellows the sh*t out of you.

Pot makes you want to eat peanut butter and chocolate smothered onto potato chips.

Pot doesn't make you speed into oncoming traffic.

Pot mixed with something may do something else. Even though I know nothing about pot Chat Icon I REALLY don't know what pot does when mixed with vodka. If anything were to blame here, I would say it would be the alcohol more than the pot, or the alcohol combined with the pot.

And, while we are throwing everythng to the wall to see what sticks, if she has had weight issues she was struggling with - maybe she was taking diet pills? Those are basically speed. Which can make people go apesh*t.

Out of ALL the things in her system, pot really does not make people do anything that crazy.

I beg to differ.

There are people who have very severe reactions to pot.

I know someone who cannot smoke pot of any kind because it makes them incredibly sick, paranoid, and batsh!t crazy - whether it's been laced with something or not. They have never had a "mellow" pot experience in their life.

Just an FYI Chat Icon

But... They don't smoke it all the time or nightly to relax and go to sleep... if they know they would have that type of reaction... Right?
If that were the case, someone would have noticed her behavior years ago since the family have already said she has smoked previously... If she had severe reactions, I think this would have been noticed before... KWIM?

Could it have been a "bad" batch? I have no idea, I dont smoke pot. But I have heard of people getting "bad pot." Also, I agree with pot being mixed with alcohol having a TOTALLY different reaction on people. I also agree that everyone is different and you cant really generalize when it comes to how a drug is going to affect an individual. I mean even over the counter drugs affect people in different ways. My friend becomes CRAZY when he has smoked pot. I mean literally nuts! Like someone else said, paranoid, crazy, BAD mood..I think each time you smoke, you are taking a chance that it will have a different reaction on you. I also think it has TONS to do with state of mind. If she was sick, upset, suicidal..alcohol AND pot can have very different effects on you system.

The bathroom makes sense!

I watched the tail end of it again last night...and the gas station video in particular...and yes, it kinda does seem like she walked to the back [looking for a door, a sign] and didn't see one, and just left, but not before asking quickly just to make sure.

was talking about this with my co-worker and she reminded me of the wrong-way drunk driver collision with the limo on the meadowbrook :(

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"

Finally saw the whole thing, and it was just disgusting.

I actually don't see an affair between Danny and Ray. She is just looking for attention, something to do....And I applaud her for at least helping Bryan through this...That kid, OMG, my heart just aches for him.

Danny just disgusts me. Everything about him. HE seems so LAZY. Complaining about being a single dad? No time? Like Ray said, he is home all day long alone while Bryans in school!

You could tell her was lying a few times. He is witholding for SURE. 100% and he alsofeels dumb he doesnt 'know' his wife.

They worked seperate shifts, when did they ever see each other. Sounds like she didnt want much to do with him anymore and yet couldnt break up the family like what happened to her.

Also, people like her are the first to 'snap' and snap bad. Psychotic breaks are often described to happen to people exactly as Diane is described.

And Pot MIXED with alcohol is a whole different ballgame. With that level of alcohol....

It doesnt make sense how quickly she drank so much though. Not many women enjoy the straight taste of Vodka, so she must have ( maybe) been mixing it with something, which you'd think would take longer.

It is just the most bizzare mysteries and because of the kids involved, is so sad, and everyone wants answers!

I feel like I know less then ever and believe only the husband and brother know what really happened .

Where is her Dad and her other brothers? They didnt talk at all about her?

Personally I would find it weird if my sister was that close to my dh. Rubbing his back at news conferences, doing things for him. Especially when they went to the examiner and she was sitting right next to him. Why? It is HIS wife. She should just be there for support. I TOTALLY think there is something going on and has been between the 2 of them.

They both lied throughout that movie.

I also think she could have snapped as there was something that was ruining her "perfectness" that she tried to have with everything in her life.

Not sure about the rest of her family but they did say they think the mother was at the funeral.

I thought about it and I know my Aunt who is my Mothers SIL is soooo similair to Ray and she would act the same way.

And MY own SIL woudl be the same way with my DH if it were me. She kinda takes over so to speak.

If one of those kids were my goddaughter and my SIL did it, I could see myself helping my BIL out that much. Maybe not in the exact same way, but I can see it.

This is what gets me. I do believe she regularly smoked pot and drank, especially in the evenings. Maybe she over did it the day of the crash.

Although, sadly, the fact that she probably was used to smoking and drinking leads me more to believe that her actions that day could have been intentional.

The fact that she left the phone on the barrier ... was it by accident because she got sick while stopped there and forgot; or, did she intentionally leave it so that the girls could not call and tattle on her anymore?

Maybe she had said all she had to say to her brother. Maybe she thought her brother was really her husband (she did call him Danny) and it pushed her over the edge when Warren had no idea what she was upset about ... if she even let it slip that she was anything other than "ill", which she may not have.

Warren and Jackie could have been majorly alarmed by the fact that she called Warren "Danny". Maybe that is what set them into a panic ... she probably appeared very confused.

So many believe Warren is hiding something that he was told in those calls; but, we don't know that. I am very hesitant to think or say anything bad towards them after all they have been through and lost.

Not only did the Hance family lose all 3 of their BEAUTIFUL daughters. They also have to live w/ the memory of those phone calls, the fear and panic in their child's voice, the cries of the other kids in the background. Yeah, I would have panicked and flown out the door in a mad dash to find her too.

Did the girl's seeing what Diane was doing (they were older than her kids and more aware of a possible problem) make her feel trapped or past the point of no return? For a perfectionist, I could see that pushing her past the point of no return. Diane may have felt desperate to keep her skeletons in HER closet where no one else could see or judge. Maybe she could not face anyone knowing the truth.

Then, people stated she drove w/ precision. She wasn't weaving and swerving all over the road like a typical drunk.

She was tailgating, flashing lights, blowing her horn, etc. We do know she had an aggression problem and driving like that was nothing abnormal for her (the aggressive driving, not the drunk / stoned driving) per her best friend.

When she entered the Taconic the wrong way, one driver on the ramp (who was face to face w/ her as much as anyone could be) said she looked "Hell bent on her mission" (whatever that may be) ... {paraphrasing}.

I don't want to believe that happened. I have sat and closed my eyes, trying to put myself in her shoes ... and in that van w/ 5 crying, panicking, and probably screaming kids. She was drunk. She was high. She may have had a hang over. Her head probably was pounding. She very well could have been confused. It's also possible, she was extremely upset over something that made her make the decisions she did that morning.

I'm trying to think as a perfectionist whose appearance was vital to her feelings of self worth. Possibly petrified of failure. Imagining finding out about an affair (may or may not be true but Danny lying about where he was that Thursday night really bothers me ... as well as his oddly close relationship w/ his brother's wife Jay).

I find myself wondering if she was haunted by thoughts of becoming her mother (or even seeing a glimmer of a resemblance of her mother in herself since she had such an intense hatred for her).

Were words exchanged before they left camp? Did Diane find out about the affair and stew over it all weekend w/out confronting Danny at all?

Diane was struggling w/ her weight, as she had done her entire life. I can imagine she wasn't happy w/ the way she looked. I've put on a lot of weight recently due to health problems and it has definitely affected my feels of self-esteem.

It just doesn't feel like a simple, tragic drunk driving fatality to me. I would love for someone to prove me wong! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I really don't know why this bother's me so much. It just does. I'm trying to figure it out in my mind. Trying to find a way to believe it wasn't intentional.

I thank all of you for allowing me to discuss this w/ you all.

I don't think so because on the video it shows her go back near the drink area. If she was looking for those, she probably would have went right to the counter when she went in there since they would probably be with the cigarettes right? I don't smoke, so I don't really know, but just guessing.

I am leaning toward asking for a bathroom now, since a witness saw her leaning over like she was going to get sick near the bridge. I know a lot of gas stations have them, but don't let customers use them.

I thought she looked confused. As if she forgot what she went in for.

For what it's worth, I really don't believe that she got up that morning w/ the intention of killing herself, all of the kids, and other innocent people.

I do believe the excessive alcohol and pot set off a tragic string of events.

IF it was intentional, I don't believe it was pre-planned for a long time. Possibly once the girls kept calling home; and, she realized she had too much alcohol and pot in her system. There's no doubt that she began to feel very ill from the effects of the alcohol and pot.

Although, premeditation is still premeditation if only conceived moments before the act.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"

just watched last night & still reading through 12 pages....

but a few things....

re: the cell phone left on the barrier....
i think she accidentally left it there. if she didn't want the girls talking to their father, she could have easily thrown the cell out the window. people saw her hunched over "getting sick". maybe she was getting sick because she had mixed pot & vodka, or maybe because she was thinking about what she knew she had to do. with that much on her mind, it's very possible she simply forgot it there.

re: the gas station....
i don't understand why she pulled up to a pump when there were parking spaces available for shoppers. i watched the video 5x and holy heck she peeled out of there. she was driving like a maniac. i believe she was drunk at the station.

re: her drinking...
definitely plausible that she was a closet drinker. DH goes to bed before me every night. after I put DD to bed, it's "my time". DH doesn't know what i do and he's HOME.

re: smoking pot to relax...
i think she liked the way pot made her feel. it relaxed her enough that she'd use it to go to sleep. i don't think she's one of those people who goes crazy or gets paranoid when she smokes. she wouldn't have smoked it if it did. she would have found something else (like sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, etc) to help take the edge off for her to fall asleep. was it a bad batch? i don't know. from experience, that is pretty rare.

re: mixing pot and vodka...
i don't drink vodka so i can't say exactly how that would make someone behave, but in my experience, wine + pot = barfing. that could explain why motorists saw her hunched over on the side of the road

re: Danny & Jay...
I don't know....i find their relationship extremely strange. I felt that she was looking to cash in on this horrific tragedy. I'll bet Diane is rolling in her grave knowing that she is pretty much raising her son. I do think that Diane was told something that weekend that was life shattering. was it an affair? i am leaning towards Yes. That would be the final straw for someone who is as perfect as Diane was.

re: Showing Diane's dead body...
I knew it was coming but I guess i didn't know what to really expect. I wasn't horrified by it, but found it extremely disrespectful of Danny to allow them to show it. Some day his son might watch that documentary (you never know!) and will have to see his mother's dead body?!?! Sickening. Goes to show you what kind of "man" danny is.

re: Danny not wanting kids...
Wow. I think this fact is bothering me more than anything else. How could you marry a man who does not want children and have a deal set up that you would take care of EVERYTHING??? What kind of life is that? I'm sure she harbored a lot of resentment. How could you KNOWINGLY bring two sweet, innocent children into this world with a man who doesn't want to be a father????

We will probably never know what Diane was thinking, what she found out that weekend, or what led up to her getting loaded and killing 7 innocent people. I pray for the families of the victims in the Blazer and for Jackie and Warren Hance, . I hope that they find peace with their new baby. Chat Icon

End of the documentary said something along the lines that Danny was having trouble getting the proper authorizations(or something to that) to exhume the body.

Before Dominic Barbara lost his license to practice law, he stated that they didn't think they would exhume the body because they didn't expect to find anything different.

They started filming this a while back. I think things have changed since then. I could be wrong though.

It is very possible that she just forgot the phone. I believe she had a history of drinking. Otherwise, how do you drink that much in that short of time?

I'm not a drinker; so, when I do drink it's one or two mixed drinks. I've never been drunk because I just can't consume that much alcohol. That's me personally. It doesn't appeal to me that much either.

I have tried pot years ago; but, I am one of those that gets violently ill (throwing up). I could never smoke enough to get high because it made me very sick. I've never tried any other drug. Only tried pot at a party once as a teen. I can't even tolerate the smell.

gas station: Everyone says she stopped to pump gas. I never saw her pump gas. I too wonder why she didn't pull up to the store. Was she trying to avoid cameras? If so, it didn't work. It did look to me like she was already driving recklessly at that point. I do believe she had consumed some alcohol by that point.

I agree w/ you on showing Diane's body. At some point, Bryan will see this. It could be one of his friends shows it to him when he's a little older (which has happened in other cases); but, he will see it. Imagine the damage that will do to him then? That makes me incredibly angry!!!

Danny not wanting kids bothered me the very most! He's as bright as a burned out lightbulb! He can't even see the miracle that sits in front of him in his son!!! Instead, he's resentful that this is his life now and he can't change it.

Sadly, I don't think we will ever know. Danny may know something. He may have at least a hint if not the full story; but, he'll NEVER tell it. I guarantee it will make him look even worse than he already does.

I really wish someone would step in and take care of Bryan. Show him the love and help he desperately needs and deserves. I hope they aren't trying to change what he does remember or suggest he is remembering wrong just to save face.

I just wish peace for everyone involved. That won't come as long as the lawsuits continue to hang over their heads. It also won't happen as long as Danny & Jay continue to put Diane on a pedestal that NO human could ever live up to. None of us are perfect!

i think she accidentally left it there. if she didn't want the girls talking to their father, she could have easily thrown the cell out the window. people saw her hunched over "getting sick". maybe she was getting sick because she had mixed pot & vodka, or maybe because she was thinking about what she knew she had to do. with that much on her mind, it's very possible she simply forgot it there.

re: the gas station....
i don't understand why she pulled up to a pump when there were parking spaces available for shoppers. i watched the video 5x and holy heck she peeled out of there. she was driving like a maniac. i believe she was drunk at the station.

re: her drinking...
definitely plausible that she was a closet drinker.

Chat Icon

I almost completly agree with all of this.

This is haunting me the last few days once again.

As a parent the sheer uncomprehensible nature of it just cannot leave my mind.

Knowing or sensing that someone knows more....Her convo with her brother was long, I dont get how he barely mentioned anything of their call?

And I still wanna know where HER family was? Why were they not in the documentary at all?

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"

And as a mom , if someone, even family had MY 3 kids in their car and called me like that, I would be on my way out the door , but also call everyone, EVERYONE, every cop , state trooper etc who would listen! I find it odd her brother drove all the way to sleepyhollow first?

This case haunts me too. The documentary brought it all back up. I have searched for every piece of info I can find to try to piece it together ... to try to figure out what happened. I'm still at a loss.

None of Diane's family (father or brothers) wanted anything to do w/ this documentary. They do not agree w/ Danny's delusional theories. They didn't want it made. It was a source of great pain for them.

i think he did... in the documentary, there was a recording of ( i'm guessing) one of his friends on the phone with police saying basically "my friend's sister is in the car with his 3 kids, and we think there might be a problem...."
so i think he did have people calling different police departments to try to track her down...

They DID call the cops! As soon as Warren left the house Jackie had a family friend contact either 911 or the highway patrol. People may fault them for not calling themselves; but, the friend stated that Jackie was freaking out. Her calling in that state would have been worthless. It was better to have the friend call.

Warren went to where he thought Diane was. He told her to stay there. Maybe he thought she would and then became alarmed when she would no longer answer the cell. Warren went to where he was told and then to the police station to help try to track her down.

I'm not sure they could have done any more than they did. I'm not convinced that they knew Diane was drunk or high. I think she was confused, called Warren "Danny" and that is what caused them to go into panic mode. If Diane had hidden her drinking and pot use so well, they probably did believe it was some type of medical emergency. JMO

Several motorist on the road that day, long before driving the wrong way, said they saw her driving recklessly. Didn't they call 911? Why did a cop not get out there and check it out and stop her before she got to the Taconic? Why didn't a cop pull over and check on a woman on the side of the road obviously sick? I think there was failure on many sides in this case.

Their best bet would have been to call *hp from their cell (if they have that in NY) to directly reach the highway patrol. It would take forever to go through a local 911 only to translate from one 911 county operator to another trying to find which had jurisdiction.
