We didn't know a third car was involved in the wreck. The Bastardi's were hit by a car behind them, but the documentary didn't interview those individual(s).
Dean and Angela Tallarico were in the 3rd vehicle.
In a separate lawsuit, Dean and Angela Tallarico, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, sued the estate of wife Diane Schuler on Friday in state Supreme Court, arguing that she bears the responsibility.

Read more and watch video interview at the link below.
MYFOXNY.COM EXCLUSIVE - An upstate couple who was in the third car involved in that fatal crash on the Taconic Parkway in Westchester say they are lucky to be alive.
Dean Tallarico, 50, of Freehold, spoke exclusively to Fox 5 News's Ti-Hua Chang. He and his wife, and Angela Tallarico, 53, survived the horrific crash that killed eight people Sunday.
"I didn't see much, all I saw was the other car coming the other way," Tallarico said. "And that's it -- then the airbags went off. It all kind of happened all at once."

Though they could just be from Westchester. A lot of the links are to a local newspaper for that area.

No, I'm not related to anyone. This case really caught my attention and I have tried to find everything I can on it. I just found this site the other day.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
I know this isn't nice; but, I feel the need to post it after watching that documentary.
I thought I couldn’t stand Danny before, now I hate him for what he is doing to that little boy. He refused to get the boy therapy until his SIL, Jay, talked to the pediatrician and insisted. WTH?
It sounds like he is doing all he can to avoid the child … even being mean to him when he does see him.
You don’t tell a 6 year old, that has been through hell and was the sole survivor of his mother's rampage, that crying won’t change anything. Crying is part of the grieving process. Allow that child to grieve before you expect him to heal!
Danny says to Bryan, this is what life is like now … get used to it. Really?? Someone needs to step in and remove that child! He has suffered enough!!! It’s obvious that Danny resents the child and probably wishes he hadn’t survived. He already said he never wanted kids and now resents being a single parent.
Danny’s life doesn’t have to be like this. Give the boy to someone that will love him and give him all he needs and move on w/ his own selfish life ALONE! Let him go live in a tent in the forest where he can fish alone day and night.
That would probably be best for all of the victims. Maybe it would take him out of the media spotlight and shut him up and allow healing!

And the fact that he told ppl he didn't want kids and Now he's left with his son, is completely disgusting.
This makes me think it was a suicide- and she wanted to take her children, the children he didn't want, with her. That man knows more than he's letting on.
I cried through the end of it. I will say I didn't see the documentary as supportive of Daniel Schuler at all though. It made him look like an irrational crockpot. That scene at the very end where Daniel reached out to hold his son's hand and his son pulled away was very telling.
What an devastating tragedy. Those poor people.
I don't get HBO, but my SIL does and I finally watched it this weekend. I thought the same thing....
The guy who confirmed the autopsy report looked at Daniel and that SIL with so much pity, and was o incredulous when they kept on asking him more questions of what COULD have happened. It just shows how delusional they really are.
And, if someone smokes pot recreationally, they will be smoking on a camping trip. I think they ALL smoked together. I think she was nursing a hangover, and tried to have some of the hair of the dog that bit her to get her through her ride home. How that went so horrendously haywire is a big mystery. How drunk and stoned does someone have to be to go the wrong direction.... Straight.... On a highway?

Omg... That theory about the affair makes so much sense!
Doesn't it though? Those 2 look way too close for in laws (Jay Schuler is married to Daniel Schuler's brother); and, Jay is way to involved w/ fueling Danny's delusions. Something's just not right there. Although, she did turn on him a bit in the end of the documentary.
Regardless of what any autopsy says, they still have Bryan! He was spared for a reason. I beg of them, put BRYAN 1st. Help him see that he IS a miracle. PLEASE get him the help (mental and physical) that he needs to get through this and live a productive life.
Please don't EVER let him feel that his surviving was a mistake or that he isn't wanted. He's an innocent child that survived something that none of us could imagine.
GOD had a reason to spare Bryan. Bryan has a purpose ... something in his life that he is meant to accomplish. Please, help him find that, whatever it may be.
If Danny can't provide those things for Bryan, then PLEASE, allow someone to raise him that can.
For me, I can't get the thoughts of those kids being so scared and probably knowing they were going to die out of my head. The Hance family had already heard them upset and crying in the background of the phone calls at least half an hour before the crash.
Can you imagine, all of the cars swerving, beeping their horns, flashing their lights, and those kids in a sheer panic probably screaming and begging their trusted Aunt Diane to stop and pull over? It kills me!
I desperately want to go back in time and pull those kids out of that van! I want to take the keys and wait for the cops to come and arrest Diane BEFORE she could do what she did. I want to hug each of those precious kids and promise them they will always be safe in the future. Unfortunately, I can't do that. None of us can.
If I am so affected and haunted by this, how does Warren and Jackie Hance make it through each day? My heart goes out to them. They are always in my thoughts and prayers.
I am very thankful for the dream Jackie had, where she saw her girl's in heaven and was told she had been given a gift by that doctor. I have a strong faith in our lord above. I hope and pray that that dream gave Jackie absolute peace in knowing that her girls are happy and safe w/ our Lord until it's time for her to join them.
I pray this new baby can bring joy back into their home and their hearts. They deserve that and so much more.
I also hope that they know they can be happy and have joy w/out betraying their girls. Their girls would want that for them more than anything else. Finding joy, peace, and moving on never means forgetting or loving their girls any less.
If any of you know that family, please, share what I posted w/ them. Let them know that people do love them and are praying for them to find a way to make peace and find joy in their lives again. Not just for them, but for their daughters as well.

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
Rayne, you just made me cry! What you wrote is so true.
The image that seems to haunt me is when the minivan is parked at the gas pump at the gas station. To know that those little kids are alive in the car at that point. I can only imagine Jackie and Warren Hance staring at that video over and over again being that it's technically the last moments of their children's lives.
No matter what we find out about this, it was a senseless act that just doesn't make any sense. It has proven to me that you really never know someone and I will never trust my children in the care of someone else. Never. This will always be in the back of my mind. I just don't understand it.

so true, I agree with this, when I saw that I wished that someone would have seen that something was not right with her or that there could have been a clue at the rest stop or gas station and someone could have stopped it before it happened, those poor little children - I cried when I saw the picture of all of them camping the day before, so sad

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
Wow, Danny can't stop lying. In the video below from the Today Show, Danny's attorney said that Danny didn't want to sue anyone. He only sued because Warren and Jackie Hance encouraged him to sue to cover Bryan's medical bills.
The attorney for the Hance Family said that is a complete lie.

The other question we had regarding Diane's body....Newsday's review had stated it was shown, so I knew what to expect. Do bodies normally puff up immediately upon death? She seemed a lot bigger than her pictures made her appear. How did she die since she she only had a few lacerations on her face/arms? Snapped neck?
I read the autopsy report- she weighed 204 pounds and if I recall correctly she was only 5'3 or so. But she did look thinner in the pics in the media. the clothes the husband was taking out of the closetbwere huge. She was a big woman....

Re: "There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane"
My son is 4, and is very aware of everything I do when I drive. He asks me questions about where I'm going, why I'm going a certain way. He tells me to be careful all the time He doesn't say it because I drive recklessly, btw.... He just knows what a grownup needs to do to drive safely. Those kids must have been so confused and scared.....
Sometimes, I will look at cai when I'm driving. He will be looking out the window, playing with a toy, looking at a book, singing a song. Asking me a hundred questions. My heart breaks knowing how much trust he has in me behind the wheel. I drive twenty miles An hour when he is in the car. I am so paranoid about other drivers. My child is such precious cargo. And forget about driving someone else's kids. I won't even turn on the radio. I can't even breathe, let alone get drunk and high

Actually, she really wasn't all that big. She didn't look over 200 pounds. She seemed like she was losing weight right before it happened. I still wish I hadn't seen those pictures of her dead. they really freaked me out.

Here friends stated that she had struggled w/ her weight all of her life. The autopsy said 204 when she died.
Showing the photos of her dead were a clear sign that Danny had no love or respect for Diane. It came across that he really resents her, possibly severely hates her, for leaving him to be a single parent when he never wanted kids.
I imagine those photos being shown would have been a huge deal to Diane. Maybe it was done because Danny knew how upset it would have made Diane.
That tells you all you need to know about his morals and character.

I also think Danny is filing all of these suits in hopes of cashing in. When Diane died, so did his comfy lifestyle seeing that she was the bread winner and he was the lackey.

I don't mean to be rude, but you seem to be very angry with him. I know you stated that you are very saddened and upset by this case - but he didn't drive the car. I am not saying he is not wrong to do the things that he is now doing - but HE is not the one that did this.
My personal opinion is he is one of those people that needs direction from someone else. Since Diane was the one calling the shots in the relationship, she is now gone. He now lets Jay do it for him. She was the one that said he didn't want kids - he never said that. She was the one who called the PI! In all honesty, I don't know why ANYONE would be talking to her. She was not related to the family by blood. I was really taken aback by the comment she said about how when she was asked to be the god mother she said "oh she really likes me". I personally wouldn't be surprised if there was an affair (or an infatuation). and i wouldn't be surprised if she told him to show the pictures. I just think he has no backbone and needs someone to direct him - like a big doofus!

I am well aware that he wasn't driving and was not directly responsible for the accident.
I am very angry w/ him because of the way he is treating Bryan. When asked if he was getting Bryan therapy he only stated that his school was doing a great job.
No, the child NEEDS therapy! You could also tell, by his attitude, that he resents being a single parent. He works nights, and barely sees Bryan. Drops him off at school, is home all day, then works at night while others care for Bryan.
When Bryan was crying and looking at photos of his sister and mom he was rough. Telling the child crying won't bring them back and this is just the way life is now ... get used to it.
Then, he has the gall to sue Warren Hance?! That one is worse than the other suits he has filed. He needs to accept the truth and stop searching for answers that aren't there. As long as he continues this, none of the victim's families can heal.
Yes, I am very angry w/ him. Bryan deserves better. I'm sorry if that offends anyone; but, it's how I feel.
