I read something that suggested that they would need a mile landing strip to be able to land a plane of that size, and if they attempted to land on gravel or something that the plane would have broken into pieces. . Exactly. You cannot land a 777 anywhere but a paved landing strip. The landing gear would rip off the plane. I don't think the plane landed safely. I think it was a pilot suicide or a hijacking gone wrong. Those poor families. I hope the people on board didn't know what was going on.

I agree. A hijacking is the most logical. It seems like someone was having the pilots change its normal route and turn around. They probably just put it in the water.

missing malaysia airplane....
I feel so bad for these families not knowing what is going on. Having no closure is unbearable. Every time I watch the news Lost keeps popping into my head.

missing malaysia airplane....
I saw in CNN an interview with Danica Weeks wife of one of he missing men who was going for a 28 day job in Mongolia. They're Australian and have a 3yo son and 10mos son. The video footage of two little boys and their daddy is absolutely heartbreaking. My heart was bleeding for her. I pray that the .00001% chance that they landed and will be released.

I agree; I think this is the first time I agree with you MrsA1012 .
Those poor families . I can't imagine what it must be like for them.
I thought it was a depressurization, but with all those zig zag movements and altitude changes, I think it was a pilot suicide or hijacking gone wrong.

Actually I read a report online from a pilot that said that there would be minimal issue landing the plane on a gravel strip. It doesn't have to be paved as the landing gear is stronger than you would think.
The whole point is they have to build the landing gear strong enough in case they have to land the plane in an emergency and not at an airport.

This is the husband that left his wedding ring and watch behind. He told his wife "if anything happens to me, the wedding ring should go to the 1st son who marries and the watch to the other".

I heard this on one of the news stations today also (HLN or CNN). They said it wouldn't be a problem to land, but would be a problem to take off again.

I actually just heard the same thing on CNN a few minutes ago. They were saying they just learned that they suspect there were two individuals involved. That one manually turned the plane around and someone had to actually go below deck to shut down some of the electronics. They were saying who it was had to have very sophisticated knowledge of plane electronics that many pilots wouldn't even have.
I feel so bad for all of the people on board. I especially feel for the parents with the babies...if they knew what was going on. To be there with your baby and knowing there is nothing you can do to save them. As a parent, that part is 10 times more heartbreaking for me to imagine.

Yes so sad! Apparently there were other near fatalities one being a car accident, didn't say who it involved and I forgot the other one. I was crying along with her.

This is how I feel. IF the plane was taken over and landed somewhere they couldn't have known because why would people not text or call while in the air...I understand it would be hard to text in a remote area but what about in the air? This whole thing is still so unbelievable

Maybe they had to handover their phones to the hijackers?
My friends Dad had a good theory, he was half joking when he said it but, it does make some sense.. he said that the plane has landed at a WWII era airstrip on an uninhibited Pacific island until they can make whatever changes they need to make to implement their next move.

They are saying it was deliberate The disappearance. Also they were flying for about 6hours in a north western route. Watching cnn right now. The transponder was turned off by someone on the plane

When I posted this last night, pretty much all news organizations including cbs, abc, cnn, ny times, time magazine, Washington post etc reported online that "Malaysian officials conclude that the plane was hijacked".
ETA: I just checked news online and looks like they changed the wording to 'deliberate action' now

The pilots home was being searched. Maybe if the pilot was the one taking deliberate action it isn't considered hijacking.
