Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I'm all for it - and quite honestly, I find it a total disgrace that our Country still shows such hatred, ignorance and blatant discrimination against a group of people. It is no different in my mind than Women's suffrage, and the Civil Rights Laws/Movement of 1964.
It's about time we treat ALLLLLLL of our citizens equal, instead of preaching it, without practicing it.

It wasn't all that long ago that marriage between different races was illegal.
People argued that interracial marriage was frowned upon in the bible.

No WHERE in the bible does it mention gay's or marriage.
For the record I am pro gay marriage, but it actually does mention gays and marriage for procreation in the Old Testament.
Genesis 9:1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth
Leviticus 19:22 You shall not lie with a male as a woman, such a thing is an abomination
Like I said, if 2 people are in love and want to get married I'm all for it. I dont want this to turn into a religious debate, but these words were taken from the Old Testament, not from Catholic Doctrine.
Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't see where either of these things mention gays or marriage?

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
I am strongly AGAINST gay marriages. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman that protects and benefits their offsprings. It has nothing to do with gay love etc. It will never change in my mind!
I am however, very much FOR a legalized union between gay couples that allows them to be covered under their SO's insurance and inherit property.

What do you see as the fundamental difference between marriage and a legalized union?
(Not trying to be snarky, trying to understand the difference.)

I was saying the same thing in my earlier post. When did "marriage" become a religious word??

Isn't it all semantics? Why not just say "heterosexual marriage" and "homosexual marriage"?
I mean, really the word "marriage" is self created. Sure, 200 years ago the "definition" meant between a man and a woman, but 200 years ago "voting citizen" also meant white man. The words we create as a society take on different meanings as we evolve, as they should. The fact is, what it all boils down to, no matter what the word is, what it entails or means, the end result should be that ALL people in this country, no matter what sex, race, religion, national origin AND sexual orientation, should entitled to the same benefits and rights as every OTHER person.

Leviticus 18, the sanctity of sex, the Lord had given the word to Moses what was a sin and what was not. Including having sex with a family member, having sex with a woman on her menstrual, having sex with an animal and having sex with another man. I thought it was obvious what it referred to. But then again, it is the bible and open to everyones interpretation

I understand that it is your opinion, I'm not trying to devalue that - I'm just trying to point out that there is no "norm" really - what was normal 300 years ago certainly isn't normal now, in a whole slew of religious, political, ideological, etc., realms. "Normal" evolves and changes as our society evolves and changes. Personally, I think this Country, and the world, has evolved sufficiently to change the meaning of a "normal" marriage.

Again! Why do we have to justify why we don't agree with it?
So here it is.
This is MY opinion and it's not meant to hurt anyone's feeling. This is how "I" feel.
Marriage is for woman and man.
I want my son to know what "nature" is. There are no 2 males elephants, no 2 female dogs, etc.. that's just not nature to me. My thoughts are: how am I going to explain to my son that someone has 2 dads in school? How is my son going to understand what is natural and what is not?
And yes, I KNOW this is not something you choose.
This is a "condenced" version on how I feel.
So why accepting gay living together, having benefits, etc... but not marriage. Because I think we need to draw the line somewhere.
I am done with explaining.
ETA: please don't assume I don't know gay people. I do and I have gay friends.
I don't have any children yet, but one of the MAIN reasons I am for it is b/c I think about the possibility that my future children could be gay - I would still want them to be happy, be loved, have their own family if they wanted it -I would NEVER want them to think or teach them to think that any of that would be unnatural - I'm not flaming you at all, or telling you how to raise your kid, it's just my point of view and one of the reasons I'm FOR gay marriage

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
totally for gay marriage. I can't believe this is still an issue....They are people. People have the right to marry.
Its hard to imagine that people in prison have more of a right to marry then gays.

Re: What are your thoughts on Gay Marriage??
Just like the abortion issue- I don't care what other people do with their lives.
Gay marriage wouldn't take away form the sanctity of my own marriage. Let em wed- who cares.
Also, every day I understand lesbianism more and more. I bet lesbian marriages would have a way higher success rate.

But this has been disputed so many times over. I do understand some standing by the translation, but that translation has been questioned as wrong, and some even say Jesus abolished those "laws" ..
So confusing.
Im not that knowledgable about the bible so I cannot say much more.
it also states not to eat shellfish or pork but Catholics do, yet say no to Gay marriage?
I guess I question the picking and choosing of whats what.
But again, I could be slightly wrong, I only have a small understanding of much of the bible.
