Re: Obamacare YIKES!!!
...and what kind of ass hole would make a political statement on the backs of their minimum wage employees? They really don't care about their employees and I would not work for a company that disregarded the welfare of their staff. Disgusting. Everyone should be covered and no one should have to choose between food and medicine. Happy to pay more because over the long haul people will prosper and it will make the economy stronger.

Re: Obamacare YIKES!!!
only problem with that is its those greedy corporations that provide the bulk of jobs in the work force in one way or another. It's why they throw their weight around so much with threats of cuts. It seems awfully optimistic to say "once the job market gets a little stronger" but if these large corporations cut back it will get WAY WORSE before it ever comes close to progressing for the better.

The backlash against Papa John's and their retraction of their statements shows that the response from the public will put pressures on businesses that try to pull this shit. Plus, corporations NEED employees in order to run and thrive, just as they need consumers. This is stupid and it is purely political statements being made by those at the top who can afford to make them. It shows their complete disregard for the welfare of their employees, people who already make minimum wage or less and struggle to make ends meet.

Re: Obamacare YIKES!!!
I agree with the last poster. Other business owners will see the benefit of hiring these employees and they will get employees who will be happy to work there. It makes a difference. It may even help the chains who are competing with Papa Johns and the like..their businesses may grow and they may need more employees, even open new stores. The public holds the cards.
And the job market will get better.

So someone give me a better solution.
This is AMERICA every citizen should have health care.
Believe me most companies can afford it. It is an expense that will just need to be factored in.
My father is a small business owner and has always provided his employees with health care. It is the decent thing to do.
this is america. a place where people have to work for what they have, not have it handed to them. I do not agree with the above statement at all.
we are all guaranteed the pursuit of happiness, not happiness. it is not the government's job to make us wealthy or poor or to DEMAND we have anything - healthcare included.
since the inception of the country, people have struggled. that is what makes the country what it is. and yet, people still want to be here, people WANT to be Americans. They come here with the money in their pockets and clothes on their backs and hope for the best. This country will fail (oh wait, it is) without that very basic foundation.

right - if you are working. if you are not working and collecting aide (or not), I do NOT think it should be guaranteed. who is going to pay for it if you arent working?
I dont want to pay for every unemployed person's healthcare when I can barely afford my own! the "government" isn't paying for anything. WE are paying for it.

i don't agree with that. healthcare and life are not synonymous. people have survived for hundreds of generations without their healthcare provided. its a fact of life. nothing in life is fair. the only way for everyone to have healthcare is for you and I to pay for it.

I'm more than willing to pay for it because for all I know, I could be the one who needs it paid for in the future. Sure I'm covered now but god forbid my DH or I lose our jobs and we get sick. I'm more than thrilled to know that god forbid that happens, we'll be covered.

Do you have it written somewhere that you or your DH will never be unemployed at any time in your lives?
I feel like that because it could be anyone of us that could be in that sitution. No one knows what tomorrow brings.
It makes me feel better knowing that GOD forbid the tables were turned and both DH & I lost our jobs we'd at least be covered while we got back on our feet.
Just saying don't be so quick to judge a situation that you can EASILY be in tomorrow.

I'm not even going to get into a debate about healthcare as a right. I'm just not. But, I agree with Eliza and ALSO you do realize that if YOU are paying into it to help someone else, that means that someone who has more money than you do is paying into it to help YOU, right? Everyone benefits from universal healthcare. Everyone.

DH and I don't make much and it's hard enough as it is but it could be much much worse if god forbid we got sick and didn't have insurance. That would lead to a greater financial destruction than an extra few bucks taken out of our paychecks.

No, the whole should be responsible for every individual.
But what about those people that just sit on their ass all day and make no attempt what so ever to get a job. Or those that are pushing out babies to make more money off the system? Obamacare may not seem expensive now, but it is going to go higher and higher, and it seems more and more people are going to be laid off because if it.

Re: Obamacare YIKES!!!
I just have to point out that we already pay for people who don't work to have health care. This argument kills me because it makes NO SENSE since it shows NO UNDERSTANDING of what really goes on currently.
And not all people who do work have the option for health care - my mother didn't for FIVE YEARS. She was not less deserving of health care than some CEO. She certainly has worked hard, doing what she needed to do to make ends meet. These are the people who need to have some kind of socialized health care in place. It is unconscionable that WORKING PEOPLE have to suffer without seeing a doctor when permanently unemployed people do not.
And people have not 'survived for hundreds of generations' without healthcare. People have suffered and died young without health care.
Also, when we are afraid to speak up to the corporations and the people in power because they're bigger and have all the money, then we've already lost.

i don't agree with that. healthcare and life are not synonymous. people have survived for hundreds of generations without their healthcare provided. its a fact of life. nothing in life is fair. the only way for everyone to have healthcare is for you and I to pay for it.
I'm more than willing to pay for it because for all I know, I could be the one who needs it paid for in the future. Sure I'm covered now but god forbid my DH or I lose our jobs and we get sick. I'm more than thrilled to know that god forbid that happens, we'll be covered.
and for those who cannot afford it but are forced to find a way? if it doesn't hurt your pocket, god bless but for many, bills like this break many individuals and business'. the individual should not be responsible for the whole.
No, the whole should be responsible for every individual.
wow, no better way to break a country.

A country that only cares about the wealthy is already broken.

Thank you!
I'm sorry but it just seems there is a serious lack of understanding in general about how taxes/healthcare/etc. work. Also, yes, there are people who abuse the system or are lazy. It happens. But despite the attention they get this is a VERY small minority. The vast majority of poor without healthcare are working poor, or the underemployed. And once again I NEED to reiterate - it is not a handout to someone because YOU will also benefit, as people who make more money (the person next up on the ladder if you will) will also be paying into this to support YOU.
People - we have PUBLIC education. We have SOCIAL SECURITY. These are UNIVERSAL social programs JUST like universal healthcare. These are rights. This country is the only Western democracy that does NOT provide health care for its citizens. Doesn't that tell you something?
