Re: An open question to McCain supporters....

TO CLARIFY

Posted by bluegreen08

i wasnt going to come back to this thread but after bazillion FMs from both sides i feel like i had to.

to clarify:

1. yes, i am an obama supporter

2. yes, i wanted to actually hear positive things from mccain supporters rather than just attacks on obama bc i enjoy discussing politics and was interested to hear the other side

3. no, i didnt mean that only mccain supporters should post here and obama supporters cannot

4. yes, i wanted the convo to focus on mccain and not obama

This thread is just inforcing my beliefs that McCain supporters have a hard time talking positive about McCain and will eventually end up making it all about Obama.....

I was hoping you would prove me wrong Chat Icon

we all gave our reasons

Yeah seriously, sorry if you have to compare a little to prove a point. A lot of us are Democrats who for the first time in our voting lives have to change parties and we need to use that comparison to explain why.

Deedlebug126 you out of all people, are a aperson that turned a postive thread last week into a negative one.

Because you were incapable of saying ONE positive thing about the cadidate you are not voting for.

And here we go again, as I explained last week, what I said about Obama, to me was positive, you might disagree, awesome for you, but it was positive to me, no one said I had to get approval first to see if Luv2bAmom thinks its good enough.

Oh Man, if you call calling someone a terrorist a positive thing, well I can't imagine what you would considered an insultChat Icon

Ummm where did I call him a terrorist? Calling Ayers a terrorist is not calling Obama a terrorist, you do realize they are not the same person, right? And again, this has nothing to do with what I like about McCain.

Deedlebug- I have stayed out of these "discussions" purposely. I wamt to also point out that you and I have never had any issues.

That said, I saw what you wrote on that thread and you're REALLY reaching when you say what you said could even be remotely considered "positive." Why not just admit that you obviously can't think of a constructive positve thing to say about Obama and just leave it at that?

Frankly- it cheapens you and your stance to spin it any other way.Chat Icon

Re: An open question to McCain supporters....

I want to thank bluegreen for making an honest attempt at trying to get good info out to people about McCain. I also want to thank the few supporters who were able to keep their responses "clean" of any attacks on Obama.

Rather than hearing, "Well I'm voting for McCain because Obama....." it was helpful to learn about the policies and platforms that truly educated voters are looking at when voting McCain.

OMG this was dealt with on the other thread, so if this needs to be discussed again, I will bump that thread so we can allow this one to serve its purpose, just let me know. And honestly, if I feel it is positive, then to me, that is what it is, it absolutely has nothing to do with who or what I support.

So let me bump that thread for you...

and Im sorry that you and a few others cannot see the difference between debating policy and bashing a candidate. Talking about socialism scaring me is not the same as bashing Obama, but I do understand how it is conveinent for you and the others to say it is the same.

Re: An open question to McCain supporters....

just for shits and giggles....

the idea that Obama would turn the US "socialist" is about as ridiculous as the idea of McCain turning the US into a "dictatorship" (which he actually has expressed he'd like to be)

I am Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon at how the whole "socialist" scare tactic is taking shape...it's almost like McCarthyism.

on EITHER side, it is such a disservice and just plain DUMB to use these labels.

it doesn't NOTHING to the argument, especially when I'd wager MANY people don't completely even understand socialist government or theory.....but that is a topic unto itself.

Yes, this is a whole other topic...

We are trying to understand now why we cannot discuss a topic of serious concern without it correlating to "bashing" Obama. I just dont get why its so personal for some posters.

I think it's rather telling when a person chooses an avatar to smear the OTHER candidate instead of a positive one for the one they DO support.

It seems as though their responses in these threads go hand in hand with how they chose to 'debate' it. There is a trend there.

regardless, there are some posters that DID educate me on why they support McCain, and I'd like to thank them as well.

I see what you are saying. I think it just comes down to using labels like "socialist".

if you are a democrat FOR Obama, you are not going to want your candidate OR yourself to be labeled a socialist (dirty word such as it isChat Icon ) and I think the same goes for McCain.

the problem is not in discussing the topics but that the discussions don't have real merit b/c they are mostly defending name calling and mischaracterizations on BOTH sides. there is never any real substance in those arguments, kwim.

put the two economic plans up against each other W/O resorting to these characterizations and maybe we could all have a better debate...

Several things making me lean towards McCain. Some of them are:

1. His unquestionable and complete loyalty and service to his country - both while in the military and Vietnam, and his many years as senator.

2. His understanding of the need for small businesses to be allowed to be profitable and to remain in the US and the fact that he does not believe that "tax the rich" is the answer to every problem.

3. His repeated emphasis on the need to cut frivolous spending.

4. His understanding that although the war in Iraq is unpopular and everyone wants the troops to come home, to simply "pull out" without planning would be detrimental to the security of the US.

5. I feel confidence in his leadership and experience. I think the "real" McCain is the person he was in past years and that he has not accurately portrayed his "true" views on issues during this campaign. Unfortunately for some reason he feels he has to pander to his constituents.

6. Yes I am pro choice, however, I cannot be held hostage by a candidate on one social issue.
