Question about plums...should I cook (steam) them before I puree them? I know I don't have to but for some reason I remember (when I used to babysit a 2 yr old) the plums being cooked
I have been giving all of his fruit a steam first (except avocado obviously).

What does everyone use to freeze in?
I bought baby cubes off Amazon, I liked that I can just take one plastic container out of the freezer/ transport it.Image Attachment(s):

I have this too as well as the bigger one as well, I find the bigger cubes stay in the tray better...the small ones slide off not a big deal but a big annoying for me. My thing is how do you defrost them now from these things? I put mine (the whole jar with the top undone) in the steamer, is this safe...to steam the jar & food together??

I have the same thing. I don't know if it is safe, but I wouldn't do it. I would be concerned that some plastic would melt in the food. What I do is fill a mug with warm/hot water, put the cube with the frozen food in the mug, then let it defrost a few minutes that way. I will then take out the food and heat it up on the stovetop. I try to take out the cube the night before and put it in the fridge so the food is defrosted by morning.

Hello Ladies -
DD is 5.5 months now and loving her fruits. So far I've made apples, bananas, pears, plums and peaches. Are there any other fruits I should try at this age?
Doc will recommend veggies at the 6 month check so right now I'm just looking for fruits.
TIA!
how about avocado

I think any combos are okay as long as you've introduced the fruit/veggie first alone. I did all fruits first and now I'm introducing veggies, and I put a little fruit in with them to sweeten it.

Some combos I've done based on what she is eating now:
Prunes & Bananas with oatmeal Peas with brown rice (happy bellies) Apples & Prunes with oatmeal Green beans & squash w/ brown rice or rice cereal Green beans & sweet potatoes

How do you make avocado to freeze? I've read to freeze in slices or mash up and freeze in trays.
If you freeze in trays do you puree it with a liquid first?
If you do slices when do you mash up the avocado-right before feeding, morning of, night before...? Do you add something to puree it?
This fruit has me so confused...

DC may have a reaction to strawberries. Some peds suggest waiting a while for "berries"...like strawberries. DD had a reaction to strawberries so I waited til she was closer to a year. Doing the same with DD now.
Broccoli can be gassy, so if you don't want to deal with that...avoid it. I sure am!!

I do nothing with the avocado. I open it up, scoop out the "meat" and mush it up with a fork until it's pureed that way and serve it.
I've never heard of freezing it or mixing it with any liquid.
I will feed it to DD as a snack between lunch and dinner. Or feed her 1/2 of one in addition to her veggies for lunch or dinner.

I have done sweet potatoes and bananas...they like both. I was going to get the Beaba but babies R Us didn't have it...good thing all I need was my food processor and a steamer. I am using the kidco trays to freeze everything.
If you are doing organic where do you get your produce? I got the sweet potatoes, bananas and carrots from Trader Joes BUT they seem to have limited produce. Did anyone use frozen organic?
BTW-I LOVE LOVE LOVE making food for them!! It is so incredibly easy.

I use Fresh Baby ice cube trays, but they are the size of regular ice cubes.
So now I've been using the Kidco Baby Step trays which are more than a regular ice cube

I do PeaPod, so I try to get everything organic from them. Otherwise I go to Wild By Nature.
I use frozen peas and beans

I get my organic produce at Stop n Shop,Trader Joes, Wild by Nature (local health food store) and sometimes Whole Foods.
I was just thinking about buying frozen berries because the organic ones are just SO expensive and it takes a lot of berries to make a puree.

Frozen are sometimes better because they are frozen pretty quickly after picking so there are more nutrients in them

I actualy found The Trader Joes by me to have more then even Whole Foods etc had.
I get ( organic fresh) from them...Sweet potatoes, Carrots, potatoes, apples, Pears, peaches sometimes plums, bananas, papaya, zucchini, avacados.
And Frozen from them I use TJ's Broccoli, Butternut Squash, green beans.
And the prices are so much better!
Stop and shop I get frozen organic Mango and berries ( but for my son, not the babies) ...And they have organic peaches too frozen, I use those if I cannot find fresh ones.

ok, so after the apple disaster, I need more suggestions...what can I give him next. he's 6 months old.
he's had
peaches banana pear apple (discontinued due to horrible gas!) prune (see above gas problem lol)
avocado (though technically a fruit I am including here) green bean green pea butternut squash sweet potato carrot
I have in the freezer blueberries, strawberries, and mango...though for some reason I am afraid to give these. I went to whole foods but they didn't have any plums. what about melon?
can I give asparagus, spinach, other types of squash???

how about papaya? or apricots? both are excellent sources of nutrition and are ok to give at his age. blueberries and mangoes are great too!!
spinach, acorn squash are perfectly fine for his age! i didnt give asaparagus until dd was a year. not for any particular reason .. its one of those veggies that i dont buy often for some strange reason but i we love it!!
